  1. You're probably right - I paid £650 for them, moved home and our winter never really happened last year, so they've been parked in the basement. Suspect I'll stick them on EBay for a week..... Then end up dropping them as you suggest! :-(
  2. Understood. Found this which offers a little comfort: http://www.newcarnet.tv/comparison_Hyundai_i30.html?serialno=92547 Have also kept the minimum specified load rating in tact, also the OE offset, and a far closer match to OE diameter/rolling circumference, so handling, braking, suspension geometry, steering, component-loading should all be far closer to OE (summer) fitment than the preferred 205/55R16. All irrelevant at the moment however, as the wheels are sitting in the garage whilst I'm waiting for insurance to sort out the tool the t-boned me the other week!!! :'(
  3. Losing 2cm off the width must help reduce the rolling resistance and help economy. Regarding the same rolling circumference, Skoda's recommended fitment for the Scout is from 225/50R17 down to 205/55R16 (seems to standard for all Octavias!!!) - which leaves me nearly 4% less rolling circumference! Hence managed to find some Skoda literature which lists 205/60R16 as a fitment somewhere in the range, so have got those on standard Skoda steelies - gives me a near spot-on match.
  4. Wouldn't you know it... Winter wheels/tyres rock up a day sooner than expected (thank you Demon Tweeks), ready to fit them this weekend. Unfortunate then that some nimrod t-boned the Scout last night. Me? Angry? Just a bit.
  5. Just speed rating - makes the assumption that driving styles are moderated in winter. Load rating stays the same (or better)!
  6. Interesting that Czech Skoda recommend 91H - aren't Scouts supposed to be a 94 load rating?
  7. Indeed - this Scoutibus (I believe is the correct Latin term for our chosen mode of transport) is not heading that far afield..... Durham is about as far as she's likely to go! (In winter anyway!)
  8. I really don't know - heard various things about making provision within the arches for snow-chains, etc. After last winter, additional room under there would be beneficial as my arches packed out a few times with frozen slush. But the 205/55 on the Scout also loses over an inch of ground clearance - not a massive consideration (and I don't intend to off-road mine), but still useful to have in the pocket down here.
  9. You're quite right, but the standard fitment on my Scout is 225/50R17, and whilst Skoda recommended winter fitment is 205/55R16, it leaves the circumference over 8cm short. The 205/60 profile gets me within 0.5%, near as!
  10. Well, tis done...... ordered the winter wheels yesterday. So I can guarantee that we will now have the warmest winter on record! Eventually gave up on trying to find tidy used alloys (although its worth noting that Save On Tyres Direct do some good deals on new Audi alloys...... it was just the Hifly tyres that put me off!), so have plumped for OE-spec steelies but shod with 205/60R16 Yokohama W Drives (was determined to keep the standard rolling circumference!). Should be here late next week - you'll know when 'cos we'll all be walking around in shorts & T-shirts!!!

  13. Don't know if it helps, but I had a Novero kit fitted to my Scout (with the touchscreen head-unit) - it was a fairly new on the market when fitted last year. So far its been very good - and allows you to pair a number of phones, and have any 2 active at one time (although you can only dial out on 1). It was about £120 fitted. Oh, and the fitter had same kit fitted to his van and it worked perfectly with his iPhone, including streaming his music.
  14. And another one here! My Scout did its first winter last year, on standard Dunlops - it did fine (very well in fact), but would like the additional security of winter tyres. Very nearly opted for Skoda's default steelies with 205/55 R16 Contis, but would like to keep same (or close to) rolling circumference for ground clearance, gearing, speedo, etc. Save On Tyres Direct (Exeter based) seem to have some useful alloy & tyre packages....... just don't know what to go for!!!
