  1. I've had quite a few Skoda's over the years and my thoughts are yes the quality of the cars has improved over the years but the experience especially with the dealers (and their quality control) has decreased. My current superb whilst being the best Skoda I have had for quality, In the 2.5 years I have had it I have been back to the dealers more that 3 times my last MK2 Octavia VRS did (including for services). This was because it takes sometimes up to 4 visits to get a problem fixed. The front door window rubber as an example Visit 1 - glue rubbers visit 2 - 8 months later replace passenger rubbers upon pickup noticed new rubber glued with gap of 1/2 inch between body and top of door (out of alignment) car booked in for 3rd visit visit 3 - renew passenger rubber also drivers rubber as it had also gone, upon pickup drivers window glass was outside the rubber (Skoda senior tech (just out of nappies) at first couldn't see problem until I dropped coin onto seat with door and window closed. took car in and fixed - complaint made to service manager about quality checks before car is returned to customer - was informed no checks done just rely on technician doing good work visit 4 - revisit for chrome to be replaced as wasn't available on previous visit. Rubbers still not aligned as per say a new car but been told its as best they can do, Skoda backed dealer. I an not counting the initial visit to log the problem. so I like the cars but the dealers have put me off from having another Skoda or VW group car. Its also telling that a couple of years ago Skoda was 2nd for dealers in the power survey, now they are heading to where VW wants them - bottom of the pile where VW, Audi and Seat reside.
  2. Woman driver crossing dual carriageway stopped in middle of road. Almost managed to avoid but she kept coming out. Her fault, insurance taking car on Monday. was doing 70 but managed to slow to 50 ish before collision
  3. Good luck with this The one app doesn't work with my car (SE-L 65 plate), Have spoken to skoda who at first gave me the same it will work with limited functions and now state I need to update the system to spec ???? But the car has just been into the dealers because during the last service the update wiped out the smartgate password and the original password which should be the chassis number was input wrong during the factory build. so after 3 visits to the dealer(total of 6 if I include round two of the door rubber fix), my car now can use smartgate. Dealer states my car has been updated with all known updates (funny as software versions still the same as before service) but one app still doesn't work. Dealer states there is no update spec version skoda states to update to, skoda says there is. So nothing is going to get done. Plus emailing skoda I get the impression they just reply from a card or it gets lost in translation. the bloke wanted me to give him the android version I was using. when I replied I had an iPhone on ios 11 he just kept asking for the android version number to be able to help me. Carplay doesn't even recognise one app on my phone so the app doesn't even appear on the display and wont connect using any lead.
  4. Opening with key is as far away as 30 Meters (range the remote will operate the car)(although mine will do this at 70m and inside a building) Closing you need to be within 2 meters of the car ( but at that distance why not press the button on tailgate).
  5. I have an iPhone 6 and the app doesn't appear in the carplay screen at all
  6. that's what mine is like and it has now separated and moved rearwards again pulling off the rear chrome trim. can somebody post pictures of a good repair so we know what to look for please?
  7. to some it probably is but my car now drives like any other car I have owned and I am happy with it. I've used the £200 to get the rear boot spoiler!
  8. before gismo did the audi mod on mine it felt like there was a dead spot on the pedal for the first 1.5 to 2 inches of travel but after the mod had been applied its reduced to .5 inch. with the dsg its now much smoother when starting off. I no longer press the pedal and wait for the car to move, it moves instantly ( before whilst waiting I would press the pedal more and the car would suddenly jerk away) this has transformed the car.
  9. I think mine was done just before the campaign. It looks like black mastic has been used and just let go, drivers side worse than passenger side. I did query the state of the fix at the time as the trim didn't line up with the rear door (looked like it had pushed out). Maybe I have had a bodged repair!
  10. Those who have had the front door mod done to the rubber and chrome trim, has it held or have you had to take it back? Mine has just pulled the rear trim off again and the rubber is damaged.
  11. its not just the chrome you buy but a complete black plastic and chrome part. You need to change over the black plastic as its different where the chrome is. I changed it over on mine as I thought the back end needed something rather than dull black
  12. mine is going in for a check (and to pass onto skoda technical) a week Monday. I have also asked the question of who is liable if something is taken from the car. In my case the boot opened at a range of 70 meters and with me inside a building. Bad design though as you can only close the boot with the key fob when standing within 2 meters of the car and at that distance you can press the hatch button.
  13. Thanks for the link but its all about windows not the boot lid. I am going to speak to the dealer because if I hadn't noticed then my car isn't covered by my insurance because its open and anything taken I've lost even though the car is locked and secured when I left it.
  14. Hi guys Had this happen today. Parked car, locked it and went into the museum I was visiting. During visit went to the café to eat lunch, sat down and noticed the boot on my car opening (must of hit ignition key button in pocket as I sat down) but and here is my problem, the car wouldn't close the boot by the button on the ignition key until I was standing half a meter from the rear of the car and at that distance I would of been able to touch the button on the boot lid. Now when I was in the café I was at least 70 meters away and a floor up. Is this normal? Can the boot opening by remote be disabled? I cannot believe that the boot can be opened at that distance but not closed until I could touch the car.
  15. i'm not supprised that skoda customer service has been this bad. last year i bought a new superb, after some problems with the order that skoda caused they were calling me every week with an update to keep me happy. collected car on Dec 24th. 4th January received call from skoda cs telling me my car was at docks in country and will be delivered to the dealers by end of the week. the gasp on the phone when I said " dam sure the car is in the country as its sitting on my drive" told me everything I needed to know about this company
  16. as with mine the mechanic had it on road test for 20 mins and nothing then as he turned into the garage for a final check he heard it another 20 mins later plus 2 extra mechanics it was pinpointed to the front passengers side. only after checking for any technical updates did he find out about the clutch sound, (let me listen to the sound from skoda) and the sound matched. explained to me it's like the computer is riding the clutch and a software update is required to correct it. As its a fault the clutch's are changed to eliminate any damage. i can only say that i nearly didn't put the car into the dealers thinking it was my imagination and was anything actually wrong becouse it never made the noise all the time. Even pulling away on the same hill at the same point sometimes yes sometimes no. But I wonder how many will ignore this noise?
  17. well mine went in today no its not the cv boot but it is clutch slip! the noise is exactly the same as the clip given to the dealers on the technical bullitin. cure is two new clutch plates and a software update to the transmission.
  18. i currently have the 1.4 act with DSG and its fine. around town or on a motorway its got enough punch but still is a relaxing cruiser. I came from a mk2 octavia vrs 170 tdi and it feels as quick as it through the gears everybody who has been out in my car cannot believe its only a 1.4
  19. i had this problem - wrong password (using the chassis vin number) had to book it into the dealer - they reset the password and made sure i was logged on before leaving. turns out the first setup password is the chassis number but as usual somebody at the factory has to input that number first, if they make even one digit wrong you cannot connect.
  20. I have a SE-L 1.4 ACT DSG hatch with no noise on 18" wheels
  21. waiting to see whats up with yours mine has a whine (like clutch slip but its not as the revs don't rise) when I pull away on an incline (only 2550 miles covered). spoke to the dealer, they know of no current issues but will take the car in for a check.
  22. When i bought my old Octavia vrs i had a non detachable towbar fitted as part of the purchase. On collection the dealer informed me they couldn't guarantee that the sensors wouldn't pick it up and sometimes when reversing the sensors would do the occasional beep even though there was nothing behind me ( and by nothing one time to a distance of at least 30m ). I did remove the tow ball and never had a false reading but it was a pain to keep taking off so put up with it. Whilst not a problem in itself you do think what the hell when it does go off.
  23. I got a touchup kit for mine from the dealer for £12
