Hello my Brethren Skoda Gang, Noticed on the way to work this morning that the Dimming function is not working on the drivers side door mirror. the passenger side is working fine as is the rear view mirror which drives the auto dimming function. Was wondering if this is just merely a straight glass replacement in the drivers side mirror or are more sinister Gremlins at work. the cars Providence is that I have owned it from new, it is 5 years old, done 126450 miles and not had any issues like this before. I am a glasses wearer so the auto dimming is a MUST. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Update: Just had mine serviced and the stays for the boot needed to be replaced, cost £50 easy job to do.

Ok so I will wonder in with my findings in case anyone else reads this. I have a 12 plate superb 2 L&K CR170 The first Superb to have partial LED lights on the rear. Fantastic car. Have had it from New. 121000 miles in the clock. Had an EGR fault with the valve getting stuck this was replaced under warranty. First set of brake pads replaced at 90000 miles (still on original disks). Radiator and water pump died (started leaking water and was empty after almost every long journey, around 96000) replaced radiator, water pump and cambelt, cost £360 total. Still runs like a dream. Origional Columbus, needs a reboot every now and then but apart from that no issues. Economy, 50 mpg around town and 76-80mpg on the motorway. Don't get rid of your car's guys, these engines have only just started to run in at 150000 I will keep it until it dies. Great car.

Hi Guys and Gals, I posted a while back about changing the default DLR's from tungsten to LED. Well having seen a few cars out there with them i must admit i am glad i did not. The Tungstens are bright but soft at the same time, when you have an Audi or a Honda with LED DLR's comming towards you and you wear glasses, i think you will get what i mean. Only my opinion.... My question is that on the Octavia vRS the DLR's stay on at night and i was wondering whether the wizards of VAGCOM that reside on here know if there is a way to make it do the same on the Superb II? I know ther is really no benefit to it, i just think it makes the car look nicer with a defined border for the front end at night. Ford do it on there Galaxys and they look alright. Any ideas VAGCOM mob? BR Nick

Hi Guys, Just thought i would report back that the towbar has been fitted with no issues affecting the vehicle electrics. All the sensors still work!!! I havent tried it on the van yet (going this weekend to York) but i am sure it will be fine. You can actually manually turn off the sound for the sensors when reversing (whch is a lot cheaper than the extra £600 Skoda are charging for their towbar). So as an old Indesit advert with a man that resembled "PorkPie" from Desmonds said, "Why Pay more?"

No Problem. I would just check if the theatrical light dimming circuit does not have a fault on the inductor (I think its called and inductor...the boffins on here may know) Not sure if our motors have it but some cars use a device that, if faulty, can gradually drain the battery in a car over 24 hours without you even realising it. Good luck with the battery...... Use Sherlock Holmes principle.....go fo rthe battery first then look deeper after it is still draining.

I am quite Genuine. Having built the "3 UK" Network, pricniple 3G BTS support engineer for two major network operators, trained field engineers and FO staff etc....etc.... My penny is worth at least two!!!! Wife says i am the most boring Bar"£$ed she has ever known..... Cant think why....... Thew rear bumper sensors can be manually silenced on the Columbus, so that should negate reversing the van and going deaf.

Zafira was 2008, Thanks for the warning. I will ensure everything works on the car before i let the guy go. But he did advise he has done SUperb IIs before and said they were a "Bit fiddly" but can be done,.

I have actually found this histarically funny Guys+Girls (being PC now...)...the engineering stuff is brillant.....!!!! I feel i need to elaborate...as i could be a Principal engineer that turns the phones off at night. I write documentation on how to commission and intergrate Multi Radio BTS (2G/3G) and perform commissioning and integration tasks on RNCs for MBNL. (T-Mobile and 3 RAN Network).... My wife tells everyone i have something to do with Mobile phones....so everyone assumes i repair them!!! My company offered me a Fupping Nissan Qashqai as a company car!!!!! .....I took the money!!!!!!

Thanks for your comments Guys. The Skoda Warranty was about £630 for an extra 2 years or 100K and belongs to the car not the owner and is fully registered with Skodas system. I think you also get the VAG support cover from the RAC. (VAG livery vehicles come out and fix your car)

I have had company cars for over 10 years averaging 40K per year. The only time i have had a full on flat was on my vRS Ocy back in 2004. None since.

Hi Gang, Thought i would share my experience of Car phone holders. By far the outright winner is the Xway from Tetrex. Fully recommended and worth £21. I have two now.

When you try and wind them up (I know they are already up) do you get a click from the motors? If so try doing a soft reset by holding all switches in the "Up" position for 5 seconds then hold them in the down position for 5 seconds. You could also try using the convenience system to see if that works. Hoid your remote unlock button down once you have unlocked the car and the windows should all go down and vice versa going up. Same if you hold the locked key position in the door barrel. Could also be a short on the system caused by changing a bulb with the wrong type or soemthing plugged in which is having abnormal effects on the system.

Does this car sound like EuroFighter taking off when i give it the Beans? 3. Does it put a smile on my face? 4. I have driven a 5 series BMW that my Brother got recently, he gave me the keys and said go enjoy yourslef.... I took it about a mile and a half down the road and brought it straight back. I hated it. I got back in My Skoda Superb (Which was half the proce of his BMW) and it was like going from Flip Flops to a pair of New Balence...(Runners will know what i mean) If i was in your position pal, get the VXR8 and rip the stereo out of it because all you will want to hear is those sweet tones of that V8 purrrhhhhing...... Hi Briskodians, I have a new 2012 Superb and i have opted for the extended 5 year 100K warranty from Skoda prior to collecting the car. What i want to know is do i have to get the car serviced at the main dealer and pay there extoriantae prices? I have an old next door neighbour who has a garage, the sort where he needs no signs up as all of his work is WOM. Could he not service the car and use genuine OEM/Skoda parts and the Skoda warranty still be honoured? He is VAT Registered. I appreciate the updating software on the car etc...but if it aint broke then why try and fix it? What are your comments good people?

Hi, Thought i would throw this one in. On Friday i am having a detachable twin electrics towbar fitted to MY2012 Superb by an independent specialist who will do it on my doorstep. Yes i am a bit nervous, but..... He fitted the towbar to my Zafira and did an EXCELLANT job. When i had my old Octavia II Vrs and had a twin electrics towbar fitted, it was done by Tameside Caravans and towbars. When i got the car back (bearing in mind it was a year old) it had screwdriver marks all around the rear bumper... This was a company car and i went back there having had a SEVERE SENSE OF HUMOR FAILURE.. They fixed it and had to respray parts of the bumper, but it was as good as new. Google them, they are a reputable dealer, the guy that is comming to do mine on Friday is an independant and i had his number from when i got my Zafira done 4 years ago and he is still going strong. He is charging me £395 for a detachable hidden twin electrics towbar. If you want PM me and i will gladly drop you his number as he does travel.
