  1. But joining the Octavia forum! I have got rid of my Fabia VRS (not my choice at all!), since I need the carrying capacity of the Octavia. I tried going to VW, BMW and other manufacturers, and whilst I could afford to buy those other cars. I just can't get out of loving Skoda's! Don't know what it is, maybe its just cos' it all just works and I do like being the underdog . I'm going to miss the small engine and big power, also parking is much easier in a Fabia. I hope to be back soon, or maybe going to see if the Rapid VRS comes out. I have a couple of things I have salvaged from the Fabia, including a TMC box. I'm selling it (if any are interested, let me know), to fund buying one for the Octavia!
  2. Hi all, As per the title, I'm selling my TMC tuning box from my Fabia VRS. I've moved to an Octavia and no longer need it. It was purchased in January 2012 and has done me proud right up to now. Amazing effect on the 1.4! In any case, it's boxed, working and comes with fitting instructions as well as loads of zip ties. For reference its this one http://www.tmcmotorsport.com/TuningBoxDetails.aspx?s=4269799184 except it doesn't come with the blanking adaptor (wasn't supplied with one). I'm selling for £250 including courier to your door. Any questions, please ask.
  3. The last Audi i owned was a Coupe Quattro LWB. Since then Audi have lost their way and diluted the Quattro name. Now you are paying for a badge and a very shiney dealership.
  4. The only reason I put in 99 is so the engine can be fed on stuff that it was intended to be fed on. Having had turbos / high compression engines in the past, running the higher RON value allowed me to run normal or even more boost (do they still sell 105 RON in Portsmouth?). Of course temperature and air pressure played a large part. In the old days the car's ECU would detect the detonations on compression and then reduce the boost available. Running a high RON eliminates the knocks (ok other things effect this too), but this results in more power. I'm not so sure about running high RON on non-turbo'd / supercharged engines, the fuel does have other cleaning elements in it and perhaps the power gains on non-charged engines is down to the running gear getting a bit cleaner? I would like to point out though that Thorney Motorsport is sponsored by Momentum 99. Read into that what you will. Unless they bring lead back in I'll be on the 99
  5. Mine don't, only the temp indicators and speed indicators around the dial, not the dial itself.
  6. .NET 3.5 isn't supported in XP embedded. There is a workaround MSDN blog, but it isn't supported. Can you not go up to WES 2009?
  7. I worked for a company that bought and sold peoples details. You wouldn't believe what went on or where your details go when you fill in a simple form on a website. You probably all know it, but as well as making money on commission, the quote consolidation websites also make money selling and buying your details. Most companies use a dialler and a bunch of agents (cold callers). The dialler will dial about 3 numbers (depends on the system) for every free agent, hoping that 1 will come available (you will answer!), and then forward it on to an agent. More annoying is the predictive dialler where the system will calculate the average call time and then start dialling the 3 numbers for every agent that is close to the call time length. By law you should never hear a silent line, but the amount of times I've picked up and had dead air for 4-5 seconds before an agent is on the line. Sometimes you will pick up and no one will be on the line and no one will come on. That means the agents are all busy and the dialler has had a greater number of pickups than expected. I've moved now to a more respectable company who don't do this. Its unbelievable the amount of times someones details is bought and sold.
  8. Unions aren't doing too badly, puts some established companies to shame with their bottom line. To be a 'not for profit organisation', a union has to spend the cash somewhere (apart from the leaders salary, benefits and pension)!
  9. Well judging by the reaction of the unions, they really believe that he wanted to shoot people! I always knew that union fat cats had a massive sense of humour failure but that takes the biscuit. This Prentis guy should really use some of his six-figure salary and pay for the police to be involved. I shouldn't have to foot the bill.
  10. Anyone see Clarkson? BBC Article Problem is who would pay for the bullets. This strike shows, that there are still people who get paid six figure salaries and large pensions telling other people who earn much less than them how to run their lives.
  11. Just by way of an update for you all. Picked up the car, Nick at Garland bent over backwards to get the car valeted and ready for pickup pretty quickly. My working week / month was manic and I could only make it in at a certain time. The car was clean and the service book was stamped as promised. Had a problem with the interior light cluster falling out, but it looks like the bulb was replaced and the box itself wasn't seated correctly. I sorted it out and all was well. My first ever Skoda, and I'm more than happy with the car and the service from Garland.
  12. WP7 with the new 7.5 mango. Nokia Lumia 800, check it out at a mobile retailer near you! I know Android is huge, I was around with a G1 at the very start. But having moved to WP7 its much easier to use and get around with. Back in the day I did flash my 'droid phone with the latest ROMs (and I still have an old HTC Desire that I play with). I wanted a phone I could just pick up and go, without any geeking around with it to get it just right for me. I have a Nokia Lumia and its great!
  13. Deal Extreme Try these chaps. I've used them a couple of times and stuff does come, just takes its time. Other people I know have used them and have had no complaints.
  14. RMT Union 80,000 members, lets say 70,000 are adults. The yearly sub is £205, so that's £14,350,000 a year just on subs. Bob Crowe is laughing all the way to the bank. PCS Union 300,000 members, lets say 250,000 adults. Lets say earning an average of 14,000 a year, thats £84 a year. £21,000,000 on subs a year. Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT earns £137,516 a year, including £24,140 in pension contributions. Christine Blower leader of the NUT, receives £26,007 in pension contributions and her total wage is £140,167 a year All very nice for those union fat cats. Where can I apply? P.S. Bob Crowe is on in the region of £140,000 and still lives in a council home. Solidarity comrades!! Very animal farm.
  15. Difficult one this. The format of the appraisal is up the employer (except in government bodies, they have to have a standard appraisal format). If you feel that she got a bad deal you have to grab the employee's handbook (HR should give you one), then have a look in there. They have to specify a process for handling and dealing with complaints. You really have to exhaust that before approaching any third party (employment tribunal website). First I would ask the manager for a 1 to 1 and go through the assessment again. Tell them you want it explained line by line. Most of the appraisal should be based on work completed or the lack of work completed if the manager feels that the worker isn't doing the volume for the time they are actually supposed to be at work. I have a couple of guys who are part time, 4 days a week. So that becomes their working week, I don't compare them or their completed (or incompleted) workload to other staff who may have a 5 day week. The long and the short of it is that your wife has to exhaust all the internal processes of the company and not be satisfied with the answers at any stage. Make sure that you get as much documentation together as you can. Keep emails, letters etc. At each stage, a written summary should be produced. Most of all, keep a cool cool head. Hope that helps!
