  1. Purchased a 2016 Fabia a couple of months ago. Car has been running well but tonight the engine light came on. I already own a Vgate 450 OBD2 unit I’ve used successfully on my 2006 Octavia and 2006 Polo. But for some reason it won’t link to the Fabia. I was just curious on the fault cause - do I need to do anything to put the car in diagnostics mode or should it theoretically just work? Luckily the car is under Skoda warranty so they’ll be getting a call tomorrow.
  2. I have a 2006 Octavia Estate, and currently repairing a bit of rust to the lower side sill (under the doors) and noticed there is a type of tape that has been applied (possibly at factory) and I could do with replacing some of this where it is peeling away. Does anyone have any idea what kind of tape this is, or what I can replace it with?? Thanks.
  3. Hi Today the lock broke on my Octavia '06 Estate, the key just kept spinning as I turned it. I've managed to remove the lock and have located a broken part in there (behind the spring). I also see there are repair kits available. However, it seems the locks fitted to this model are unserviceable? There is no circlip to be able to take the unit apart and replace the broken bits unlike VW and Audi units (from what I can tell). Is this right? As I can see no other way to open the unit up, and don't like the idea of slashing £100 on a new whole unit... This looks like the unit I have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-SKODA-OCTAVIA-MK2-O-S-F-RIGHT-REPLACEMENT-DOOR-LOCK-KEYS-1Z0898168D-/331003081317, and is held together by 2 small pins (as can be seen at the top of the unit in the picture). I've tried knocking the pins out but they don't budge. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Got a further reply from a separate Skoda dealership - confirmed the prices were correct at around £250. Ouch.
  5. Just got a response from skodaparts.com - not far off, the clutch kit, and release bearing comes in at £226 for genuine Skoda parts.
  6. That's what I thought - going to get another quote on a clutch kit from another Skoda dealership just to double check.
  7. No DMF, so no problems there. I was thinking the same about the garage trying to recoup something from the warranty repair - but then I found out the warranty is third-party covered by the AA, so no problems there, unless the garage have to pay out some kind of excess. Ideally it'd be nice to believe a garage in giving an honest answer to the question of "Does it need replacing?"... but I think they're always going to say 'yes', as they'll make something out of it somewhere along the line.
  8. My 06 Octavia, which I bought back in November is going back to the garage for a warranty repair of the gearbox after discovering a grinding noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd over 2500 revs. I read another forum post on here indicating it may be the syncro gone. The garage initially said they'd put lighter gearbox oil in, to which I said no, that I wanted it properly investigated - as if the problem reappeared in a years time then the car would be out of warranty and cost me to get it repaired. They agreed to remove the gearbox and fix properly. So now the manager is asking me if I want the clutch replaced while the gearbox is out - his reasons saying that they won't charge me labour, and it'll be parts only - at which he's quoting £279 The car has only done 48k - so, is it worth getting the clutch done? Does it sound too expensive? The garage is an official Skoda dealership.
  9. Unfortunately not, as it's not remote central locking.
  10. I have a 56 plate Octavia 1.9TDi - and have odd behavior with the central locking. On a random basis, when I turn on the ignition, all the doors lock on the car. It doesn't happen everytime though, just whenever the car seems to feel like it. I'm guessing this isn't correct behavior and I should get the garage to look at it?
  11. Thanks for the replies. I did notice the problem didn't occur if I very slowly crept up the speed to 70mph - when under 'normal' acceleration (not booting it) the judder appeared. Like I say, it's only very slight, and certainly not a lurch or stutter in the cars performance. Also, if I keep the rev's higher in 4th, and put it into 5th and accelerate the problem doesn't seem to happen - although this isn't great for mpg. So it only seems to happen from low revs in 5th when accelerating from 60mph, and is gone within a second or two.
  12. Hi - was driving on the motorway yesterday, and noticed a strange, smallish judder at about 60mph in 5th gear when accelerating. It doesn't last long, and isn't aggressive. It's on the 1.9TDi engine. Is this anything to be worried about? I've not noticed it before, but only had the car a week.
  13. As title. I've tried swapping the bulbs over, and both work - so seems something to do with the wiring. Where is best to start looking for a possible cause? Thanks
  14. Hi I'm just about to pick up a Octavia Estate 1.9TDi on Saturday - and am off to France next weekend. What do I need to do to ensure my headlights are EU legal. Do I need to place stickers over the lenses in some spot to stop dazzling oncoming drivers? Thanks for your help.
