  1. Having just purchased a new Fabia 1.0S can anyone confirm that if I were to disconnect the battery on the car for any reason that the infotainment system would still work on re-connection. On my previous Mk1 Fabia disconnecting the battery required me to input a security code before the radio would work properly again. Is it the same with the Mk3 Fabia with it's infotainment system (Swing) or is this not required as I do not seem to have been supplied with a radio security code with the vehicle documentation?
  2. Ok, thanks for that info, I might just give it a miss in that case.
  3. Thanks for the part number, might give it a go at some point.
  4. I'm soon to be getting a Fabia 1.0S for my wife, just as a matter of interest is it possible to retrofit cruise control to this model? I've retrofitted cruise control to my own Golf & also to my wife's current Fabia Mk1 so I have an idea as to how it's done, I also have VCDS so I can probably enable it as well. Has anyone here done this? Are the cruise control stalks readily available, and where is the best place to get them? Anyone?
  5. A while back I fitted a Kenlowe Hotstart to SWMBO's Fabia which pre heats the engine & gives instant heat from the heater & with the heated seats as well, it's sheer luxury on cold & frosty mornings !
  6. This offer was posted on the UK MkIV forum, it looked interesting and so as I was in Halfords today anyway, I had a look at it. .http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_langId_-1_categoryId_165572 This is a very high quality extremely comprehensive socket set on offer at half price, the Halfords Professional range have an excellent reputation and a lifetime guarantee.. You can probably tell I was well impressed with what I saw, so much so, I bought a set on the spot an absolute bargain !. Tell santa you want a set.
  7. Could be but on the other hand, I've seen this happen with just a bad connector at the pickup coil A quick clean up & a squirt of servisol and it was fixed ! It could be any number of things really, a scan for any logged fault codes would be a good start.
  8. Taking it to a garage (if you can tow it or get it uplifted) would be one way to get it scanned for fault codes although a cheaper way might be to find one of the wonderfully helpful members on here who lives near you with vag-com, see this thread: http://briskoda.net/diagnostics-vag-com/vag-com-owners-map/80992/ then if you find someone and send them a P.M. & ask nicely they might just be prepared to come and check your car for you for the cost of a beer or maybe even for free if you are lucky ! Getting it scanned for a fault code would at least then point to why the immobiliser is cutting in, .
  9. Probably you will have to get someone with Vag-Com to read any stored fault codes for you to determine what's actually causing the immobiliser to kick in
  10. SWMBO's car is a Fabia TDI Elegance Estate PD100 remapped by Angel Tuning to circa 140bhp. I've had it up against a friends Fabia VRS PD130 & found it was slightly quicker in a straight line than his (standard) VRS. The Fabia Estate PD100 surprisingly, is also slightly lighter than a Fabia VRS. You'll have plenty of oomph with a decent remap although it won't ever handle nearly as well as a VRS and you won't be able to get near a remapped VRS without some serious tuning. All in, I'd say a remapped PD100 is a good alternative to a VRS with the Elegance versions having a pretty decent spec as well.
  11. So being blunt about this, he lied to you ! :thumbdwn:
  12. I did this as well on my wife's Fabia Estate but I mounted the cd multichanger in the boot rather than under the passengers seat as she wanted to retain the storage drawer there, it is as Sarah says, a great piece of kit & it works well. While I was at it, I also integrated her mobile phone carkit to the radio so that it automatically mutes the radio and diverts the phone output to the radio speakers when in operation and I also enabled the radio speed related volume feature. As for the spare key situation, I think you should be ok if you have one working key. You can obtain the secret keycode using Vagtacho and reprogramme a new key using the existing key & code after of course getting the blade cut to match. There is information on how to do this somewhere on here I think.
  13. I bought my wife a Fabia Tdi Elegance estate a few years back, it has all the goodies, heated seats, cruise control, electric windows (front & rear), air-con, 6cd changer, central locking, parking sensors etc, etc. I got it remapped and it now has VRS performance (140bhp), it returns about 50mpg on average. Plenty of room for two baby seats on the back seats and a good sized hatch back, plenty of space for buggies etc, enough space to comfortably carry our two fully grown Labradors in there. All in, it's a great "mums taxi" economical to run, comfortable and with a bit of go in it when you need it. Good choice !
  14. Yeah, I had this problem also after using cheap pads, I ended up putting a chamfer on the leading edges of the pads which cured the squeal but lesson learnt, subsequent pads fitted were o.e.m.
  15. Seems a long way to go for a remap. I had both our cars (including SWMBO's PD100 Fabia Elegance Estate now at 140bhp) remapped more than three years ago by Angel Tuning with absolutely no problems since. Paul, of Angel Tuning, came to my house from Ardrossan and did the job for me at just over £200 for each car. The subsequent performance increase to both my Golf & SWMBO's Fabia is incredible ! 16. Ignition switched supply from the fuse box directly beneath the mount.
  17. Mine at 53,000 miles & five years... However, despite that looking bad, the inside of the belt actually looked ok as can be seen on this thread ... http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/cambelt-condition-53-000-a/83358/ That said, it's no more than 60,000 or four years now for me .... I've seen what valves touching pistons can do to an engine and it ain't a pretty sight I can assure you ! Also, I'd always change a cambelt driven water pump when doing a belt, anything that comes into contact with the belt has the possibility of failure. I'd rather take my chances with a new pump at 60,000 miles than an old one at failing just prior to the next belt change at potentially 120,000 miles ! Really, it's just not worth the risk I.M.H.O
  18. It's all here .. http://briskoda.net/technical-guides/fabia-vrs-timing-belt-change-diy/104046/ Have fun !
  19. This link should give you some idea of what's involved.... Turbo Clean HTH
  20. Stephill SE6000D reasonably silent with a single cylinder Yanmar engine. It's not the sort of thing I would chose for a permanent "off grid" supply but as a backup it's adequate for my needs & runs my house, lights, fridge, freezers, tv's, computers, central heating pump, kettle etc & it's fine for everyday living so long as I don't get too power greedy. To run two houses I reckon you'd need something a bit more powerful though & if going for long term use, I'd certainly choose a multi cylinder Lister/Perkins type 1500rpm diesel rather than a single cylinder 3000rpm one.
  21. Yeah, I'm actually with you on that. With two diesel cars in our house I've got myself a wee stockpile of diesel for exactly the same reasons but I've also got myself a 6Kva diesel generator to feed should at any point we face power cuts at sometime in the future ? This is perhaps not us unlikely as it may seem given that we rely to a great extent on gas fired and nuclear power stations for our electricity here in the U.K. and we are now actually importing most of our gas (we are at the end of the European pipe line so we rely heavily on other countries not to shut the supply off). We also import some of our electricity and are again dependent on other countries for this. Many of our existing nuclear power stations are also now nearing the end of their lives (lack of investment by successive governments and a fear of nuclear energy) and the contract to build new nuclear stations has just been given to the French (madness) to build for us and likely to take about ten years to come on line. Probably not this winter now due to the "credit crunch" and people and industry cutting back on energy usage but sooner or later in my opinion it wouldn't take much for some form of limited power cuts to occur in the U.K. so I'll keep my wee diesel stockpile topped up.... just in case !
  22. I'm not sure how to read that. If you mean that the water pump should have been changed with the cambelt then I don't think that's actually a Skoda recommendation. However, personally, I would ALWAYS change it during a cambelt change as any item that comes into contact with the cambelt has the potential to fail & I'll always take my chances with a new water pump rather than one that's done 60,000 miles plus thanks ! For the cost of another £30 odd it seems silly not to IMHO.
