  1. Hi Guys I have having a problem with a slow punction or the tyre no being sealed on one of my wheels so it keeps going flat after about 24 hours. I was going to stick the spare on but then noticed it had one of those stickers on it that said you should not exceed 50mph. So did not put it on. Having another look at it today I have noticed the tyre is the same as the ones fitted to the car 205 45 16 with a 87 load rating which makes me wonder why it had the label on the wheel. Is the speed rating for the steel wheel itself or perhaps was it for the orginal tyre which was fitted to the spare? as why would a tyre which is the exact same as the ones I have fitted have a speed restriction Thanks in advance Matt
  2. Just to update everyone on this in case people come across this thread Managed to source a 2nd hand gearbox from charles trent for £350 with a years warrenty. Then had to fork out for a new dual mass clutch and flywheel and have them all fitted at the local garage Total garage bill was £914 plus the £350 I had to pay for the 2nd hand box. Bloody expensive repair bill. Fingers crossed I get a good few years trouble free out the vrs now!
  3. Thanks guys So I'm guessing I have early type since mine has to be one of the earlier fabia vrs about. So are we saying that all three will fit and it is just a matter of the gearing? Matt
  4. Hi Guys Need to source a used gearbox for my 53 plate vrs but need the gear box code to make sure I am looking for the right part. I assumed that there was only one 6 speed box but a few places have told me this is not the case. Car is at the garage so can't check myself. If anyone knows the gearbox code for a 53 plate vrs please let me know. Thanks in advance Matt
  5. I'm interested in the gearbox. Have sent you a PM so if you could get back to me asap that would be great
  6. Hi Guys Just as the title says. Gearbox went bang and garage say it can't be fixed and I need to source a second hand one or a refurb. Seen two on 2nd hand ones on ebay for around £450 but would prefer refurb if possible. Does anyone know where I could get one? I'm in liverpool but obviously will pay the shipping if I can get a refurb which has warranty. Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks guys. The garage is only about 3 miles away so fingers crossed it will be ok. Don't fancy calling out a flat bed which I suspect will be over 100 quid
  8. Hi Guys Following on from my thread earlier in the week my gearbox went bang. Got underneath it on tuesday to find this. 2013-06-24 18.25.18 by mattrsa, on Flickr 2013-06-24 18.26.45 by mattrsa, on Flickr I'm guessing the gearbox has had it based on what I have read in other threads. The car is outside my house so my question is can I tow it using my other car to the garage or will it do even more damage? or do I need to get it on a flat bed which is going to cost a bomb.
  9. Hey guys. I got under the car when I got home to find this. 2013-06-24 18.26.45 by mattrsa, on Flickr and this 2013-06-24 18.25.18 by mattrsa, on Flickr I presume there should be a something bolted to the end of this. Any ideas why this might have happend? Do you think it might be salvageable if I find the part that should go on the end and fill it up with gearbox oil? Probably clutching at straws but I can live in hope
  10. thanks for the replies guys. Where can I get a recon gearbox from? Have googled it but can't seem to find anywhere I can get one
  11. Hi Guys While driving back from london yesterday my gearbox decided it would go bang and spit all the oil over the road. Could not enagage any gears so limped to the service station and the got towed home. Going to get under the car tonight and have a proper look but I suspect the box is now done and I will need a new/recon unit. Where am a best looking for one? I have read a few threads on here with similar issues but can't seem to find where I can buy a recon unit if I do need a new one. I'm I right in thinking that if I get the gearbox reconned or replace that I will need a new clutch etc too? I see from another thread that people are paying approx £1200 for this sort of job. Is this about right? The car is a 54 plate vrs with 125000 miles on it with almost FSH. Have been debating just selling it with broken box. What sort money do you think I could recoup just selling as is? Thanks in advance
  12. they are the crimped one's by the looks of things. Will have a look round and get some new jubilee ones to replace them then. Matt
  13. I did mine this weekend. Simple job if you can get hold of a 37mm socket to get the oil filter out. Parts I think cost me around £50 and took me a couple hours at a very slow pace as I was hungover
  14. Hey guys. I need to change the fuel filter on my fabia but I have noticed the clips which attach the fuel line are different to jubilee which I assumed they would be. Any idea where I can get these clips? Online would be best. Regards Matt
  15. Thanks for the reply guys. Will go get some 5w40.
  16. Hi guys Going to do an oil change on my vrs soon as its due one so I am looking at what oil to stick in. Looking about I have seen that 5w40 at 505.01 is the oil to go with but have also read that 15w40 with 505.01 spec is better for engine with high mileage which mine has. Just wanted to confirm that 15w40 to vw 505.01 spec is going to be ok for my car/engine. Thanks in advance.
  17. Thanks guys. Got the discs. Do I def need new pads. Mine seem to have plenty life left.
  18. Hi guys following on from another topic I am going to order some replacemet disc for my fabia vrs from euro part I have entered the car details on the site and it has come up with there differrent matched for front and rear disc Here they are http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/brakes/brake-friction/brake-disc/?104440718&1&4fd560a86b26947b1de07cc55bb4e46ed587197f&000027 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/brakes/brake-friction/brake-disc/?104440798&1&4f17390f4755754f0fdc780c8ac9138a39816aad&000027 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/brakes/brake-friction/brake-disc/?104441108&1&56302bfed2bab2e26049b7ccb2590655b4d31a41&000027 Not sure which ones I should be getting. Can someone advise?
  19. Hi Guys Just had some new rear tyres fitted and the fitter suggested that although the rear pads are fine the disc's are worn and could do with replacing. I found the thread on here detaling how to go about it which is great. My question relates to parts. Which rear disc's should I go for? and who are the best online retailers for fabia parts. Had a quick google and found there to be hundreds of discs but wanted some first hand experiance of which are decent. Thanks in advance
  20. Just think with the mileage now that the resell value is at a point where people that may buy the car will prob not car about a fully stamped service history plus servicing it myself will be a lot cheaper. Maybe I'm wrong but have never really had a car which I have not serviced myself.
  21. Hi All I think it has come to the point where it is no longer worth it to get my vrs serviced by a garage and so am going to start doing it myself. I pretty confident with most thing ie brakes and oil change but having never owned a diesil before I am unsure of what the procedure is with the glow plugs. Do these need replacing like spark plugs on a car? every 12k or do I just leave them if there seem to be no problems. Thanks in advance Matt
  22. Hi Guys Seems my fabia has developed a problem with the bonnet not shutting correctly. I read in the manual that you should just drop it but this does not seem to work. I have tried pushing it when it is close and this also does not work. I have checked the mechanism and it seems to be working ok. Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to getting it to shut?
