  1. I cannot comment on the 1.2 DSG model, but I have a 1.8 Tsi 4x4 and am very pleased with it; I think it provides a great mix of performance if you wind the engine up a bit, and relaxed cruising if you want. I find the manual box easy to use with a smooth gearchange and good ratios. I did previously have a Fabia vRS with the DSG box and although it worked very well, I still prefer a manual and especially the better low speed control when maneuvering from a clutch you can operate yourself. I'd definitely say that you should make sure you are happy with a 1.2 before deciding to go that way - I don't think you'd find anything to complain about with the 1.8 if you are happy with the running costs (I get from 30 - 38 mpg depending on use). Obviously the 4x4 is a useful safety aid as well, especially with the weather at the moment. Enjoy your decision!
  2. My 1.8Tsi 4x4 is about 15 months old and has done about 7000 miles (I have use of 2 other cars and a couple of motorcycles) which has been a mix of long distance and short (2-3 miles) trips although the bulk of the mileage has been longer journeys. A couple of weeks ago the display suddenly said it needed servicing in 2 days which seemed very short notice as well as being somewhat sooner than the 2 years/20k I was expecting. Anyway, called my local dealer and discussed options and then took it in a few days later (the car was now telling me a service was 5 days overdue) and agreed that they should do the first service and switch to annual servicing rather than variable. They did say that they had checked the car and the oil quality sensor (?) was saying that it needed a change. I was quite relaxed about this as the service was not too pricey and I was happy to get the car checked over after just over a year of use but I was surprised by the short distance I have traveled before being told I needed a service, and the lack of warning when it did happen.
  3. My 1.8Tsi Elegance suddenly popped up a "service in 2 days" warning last week even though mileage is low and it is only 15 months old. Chapmans were very helpful over the phone and booked car in for today for a check and service if required. No faults found and oil sensor saying it needs a change. Discussed options over the phone and agreed to undertake a first service and convert to annual service regime. All completed as expected at reasonable cost and car returned cleaned inside and out. Very happy with the service.
  4. I have had my 1.8 TSI for about 10 months now and done (a lowly) 6000 miles on an exclusively regular 95 RON unleaded diet. I have had no problems at all and performance seems pretty good for a bulky 4 WD car. Average fuel consumption has been between 30 and 35 mpg depending on use.
  5. Good photo - choose the right day and come past the Newbridge signal box just outside Pickering on the North Yorks Moors railway and you will see my Yeti parked outside as well.
  6. I got my 1.8Tsi just before Christmas and have done nearly 2000 miles so far. My logic was similar to yours as I do a mix of short and quite long journeys but not a huge annual total so was happier with a petrol engine, especially given the price of diesel now. I am really pleased with the mix of performance and comfort it offers; you can drive on the torque of the engine (pulls smoothly from about 1200 rpm) or run it up through the revs for a sportier drive. Considering this is a small SUV with real offroad/bad weather abilities I think it is a great car. I am averaging just over 30 mpg but on a good run on A-roads have seen nearly 40 mpg. As Speedsport says, going over 60 makes a noticeable difference, but I recently did a 400 mile return trip up and down the A1 at 70 - 80 mph and still averaged 32 mpg. Unless you do really high mileages I don't think you will regret choosing the 1.8Tsi.
  7. I have an Amundsen in my Elegance and although I have only used it a couple of times in anger, it seems to work fine. The screen size is not really an issue as you get voice directions and concise visual ones through the Maxidot display so you don't need to use the colour screen much other than to set the navigation up in the first place. One thing I do like is how quickly it will recalculate a route if you ignore the initial directions - I tried this as it has been slow on other sat nav systems I have used - without too many "turn around" and "recalculating" messages.
  8. Having read this post I listened very carefully when I took my same-spec Yeti into town and back this morning but could hear no untoward noises at all, and definitely no clicks when depressing the clutch.
  9. My Elegance came with an Amundsen radio/single CD/sat nav fitted in place of the Bolero radio/CD changer but there is no separate CD changer as standard - but as everyone notes, CDs are old hat now and I just load music onto an SD card or plug in my iPod. I don't see not having a CD changer as a great loss whilst the sat nav is a useful extra so I am pretty pleased that the Bolero was not available.
  10. It's great and reassuring to know how capable the Yeti really is in conditions that most of us will probably never need to experience, especially when compared with more overtly off-road orientated cars.
  11. Thanks Johann - so it is just a cautionary message rather than an instruction to check something about the deadlocks. I don't know why it has to give this message every time, but hey-ho I can certainly live with it. I think the poor wording in the manual is perhaps part of the issue here as it does not explain anything useful about the message. This does seem to be a feature of the Yeti manual - a lot of it is not very informative.
  12. Help! Does anyone understand the warning message I am getting when I turn the engine off in my car? The Maxidot display says "Check deadlocking - see user manual" and the user manual does indeed say that this message may occur when locking the car but I cannot actually work out why it is telling me this or what (if anything) I should do about it. There do not seem to be any problems as far as I can tell. For info - the car is set to lock and unlock automatically although I have tried various combinations and they all seem to have this message appear when the engine is switched off.
  13. I bought my new Yeti from Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield. I live about 100 miles away and used this dealer as I managed to track down that they had a suitable car in stock. All negotiation was done over the phone with Andy Pienaar, the salesman I dealt with. I was very pleased with the deal struck (both price and part exchange on my Fabia vRS) and the service I received. The car was ready for collection as agreed and was prepped very well and after a week I have no issues to report. Andy has been a delight to deal with - very helpful and not at all pushy about all the extras that you normally get bombarded with. I cannot comment on the service team as I will be using a more local dealer for this but as a company to buy from I was very happy indeed doing business with them.
  14. Thanks for the feedback - I don't tend to make calls FROM the car so it is not a big problem for me. It is odd that I can access the call log for recent calls though - perhaps it is the format of the address book that is the problem.
  15. Hi - I have an Amundsen radio/sat nav in my Yeti and I have successfully linked my phone to it and can make and receive calls via Bluetooth. What I do not seem to be able to do is import my phone's address book. I can find the import command and can tell it to import but nothing seems to happen. My phone is a Sony Ericsson Xperia. Does anyone have any ideas how to make this work or what I am doing wrong? The leaflet (I refuse to call it a user manual) that came with the system has no details on how to do any of this at all so I am largely going via trial and error. :(

    Got it!

Thanks for all your good wishes. Plumber - mine is Aqua Blue for info. I will see how the stock tyres go this year if we get some bad weather and then think about winter tyres (and spare wheels?) with some experience under my belt as costs and storage are a concern even though I realise they would definitely be a better idea. Still have my Defender at the moment so until that's sold (boo hoo) I don't need to worry if things get really bad. For info - Gordon Lamb still have one more car of the same spec in stock (or had yesterday anyway) as they sensibly pre-ordered stock for the winter so if anyone is interested get on the phone now!

    Got it!

I am really pleased - as noted in the "delivery times" thread I found a new, unregistered 1.8 Tsi 4x4 Elegance which I ordered last Thursday and collected today. Got it from Gordon Lamb Skoda in Chesterfield and have been very happy with my dealing with them over the phone and now in person when collecting the car. Everything was as expected and the car fully prepped to a high standard. As an added bonus it came with sat nav which was not part of the spec (or price) but apparently was fitted by the factory as there is a shortage of the standard radio/CD kit for the car. Have now put a 100+ miles on the car over the afternoon and am very happy indeed, lovely car to drive, very comfortable and really well equipped - just need to see how it copes in really bad weather/snow with the standard tyres before deciding whether to go with specialist winter tyres. I can see why everyone is so pleased with their Yetis.
  18. Two reasons - mainly that I definitely want the 4x4 capability as that is a prime reason for changing vehicle and the 1.4 is not available with 4wd, but in any case I prefer the additional performance from the 1.8. To be honest I never even looked at a smaller petrol engine although could have been interested in 140 or 170ps diesel if I had found anything available.
  19. I have just ordered a new Yeti. I was looking around at low mileage used cars as I was told by my 2 most local dealers that lead times were of the order of 6 months-plus. I should be collecting my new 1.8 Tsi 4x4 Elegance later this week. I was not after any options (not a lot to choose anyway with the Elegance) and not too worried about colour. Having tied the 1.4 Tsi engine in my Fabia vRS I thought that it would be a nice engine for the Yeti and as I do not do massive miles was not concerned about the higher fuel consumption. I does seem that new cars are available from stock if you are flexible about model and spec. And I did get a discount on list and a good trade in on my Fabia!
  20. Hi, just found this forum and thought it worth joining. Currently have a Fabia vRS (1.4 Tsi engine) but am about to get a 1.8 Tsi Yeti. I think the Fabia is a great little car but want the 4x4 capability of the Yeti.
