  1. i have found a local shop that can provide me a new one that has ESP. that's why i need to know if it'll work on my car,
  2. Hello guys, its been a while since my last visit to this forum. recently my octy turned the e brake indicator light along with the abs light. On the manual it says that i should not drive and take the car to a shop ASAP. of course i didnt take the advice and i've been running with out ABS for 3 months now ( who needs abs anyway its overrated :p ). Well im now looking for a new abs pump and i have seen that there are some with ESP and some w/o ESP. The question is, can i use an ABS pump with ESP on my car taking into account that the original ABS module doesnt have it? or is it there a difference that will render it useless. regards
  3. i had the same problem a while ago, my strut mounts where turning along with the struts due to damaged bearings. the rubber mounts rubbing against the inside of the strut tower caused this noise. You could check if this is your case  .
  4. You should be careful with mats according to toyota those things can make your car to suddenly go full throttle and send you to the bottom of a lake.
  5. Hello guys, I'd like to know if the jetta cluster fits the octy. i have been looking around but octy clusters are not very comon over here, and when i found one they want to take my liver and my left lung (very pricey).
  6. My 1.6 GLXi 2000 is still running strong with 103345 km. i think ill own it until it dies on me. i wont get much if i sell it anyway.
  7. any ideas on this subject? anyone knows if theres any important difference between region settings?
  8. Hey there guys, i have some doubt. just today i found out that my car´s ECU is apparently programmed for the German region. hence all the names for the modules appear in german. i have also seen that the ECU has some prepogramed parameters such as altitude correction, and id like to know if this value changes from region to region. since im on the caribbean maybe my car is running on settings that are not the most efficient for my country.
  9. i have been reading and searching information about posible upgrades for the octavia/golf/jetta front suspension and i have found some things. FIrst of all is the use of the Audi tt spindle on lowered cars due to a different pivot points for the LCA. Also with this mod comes the use of the audi tt LCA and ball joint. I have also read about the use of solid bushes for the LCA that are not prone to suspension gemonetry changes due to bush flex Southern California Cylinder Heads also some devices that allow to modify the camber and caster angles Ground Control Suspension Systems - Camber Plate - Volkswagen A2, A3 (Golf) (Pair) has anyone triad one of this mods? if so what changes have you noticed? currently my car is running on lowering springs and i have noticed that the LCA are angled upwards. this means that the camber angle on my front wheels have changed, i have also noticed that my tires show slighlty more wear on the outer parts. i know that the tt LCA allows for some camber adjustments so i'm thinking to upgrade this part first.
  10. You have to be extra careful when dealing with airbags. i have heard that static can trigger them. be shure that you dont have the key on the switch when dealing with them.
  11. lol, i thought you where talking about some super high hp gain mod with a cheese name, never thought about the animated movie.
  12. its not very difficult but time consuming i had to do it to replace the evaporator myself since the shop was charging me usd 250 just for labor, jejeje Sorry i cant get you photos didnt think of it when i remove mine back then. but basically this is how - you can start with the globe box which has 5 torx screws 3 at top 2 at bottom, remember to disconnect the globe box light cable. - taking out the plastic cover on the e brake, this one has two torx screws that can be reached after you pull out the little ash tray it has - remove the surrounding trim on the gauges, it has two torx screws concealed with plastic covers. this surrounding trim also conceals a screw that holds the center part - remove the plastic panel on the left side, take out the fuse cover and you'll find 4 screws, 2 of them hold the fuse box agains the plastic cover. carefully pull out the light using a non sharp tool so you wont scratch anything, you'll find one screw over there and another 2 screws at the bottom. you have to carefully dettach the diagnostic connector. - for the center part, remove the pastic trim that surrounds the radio and climate controls. there youll find some screws, i think 6 or eight cant remember well, open the cover that conceals the thing where you put teh change and there youll find 2 screws, remove the plastic trim that surrounds the shift lever and another 2 screws show up. youll also find screws that where covered by the globe box and the piece of plastic that holds the fuse box. near the hand brake, at each side of the centre plastic cover you'll find 2 screws more. by now you should be able to pull the centre console, disconnect the radio and button wires. and youll now have only the top black part of the dash. which if my memory doesnt fails me, ( and i think it is) is being holded by 4 screws, one at each sice, two more near the centre where the globe box was and the other just near the steering wheel. pull out the warning light switch on the centre, take out the gauges that are being holded by 4 screws, carefully disconnect the two connetors on the back of the gauges. - i could take out the black part without having to remove the vents just carefully pulling out towards you. you might find more confortable to remove the two screws that hold the steering wheel to the metal frame this way youll have more space to manouver. by now you should have a very nice view of the wire loom. on this case my car only has one airbag on the steering wheel, thats why i didnt mention anything about the passenger one. hope this helps
  13. ive heard around that is good to change the belt tensor, water pump, timing belt and engine mount bolts all at once. just last week i saw a 1999 octy stranded and it appeared that the engine fell on the right side. maybe he did the timing but didnt change the bolts and theold ones snapped.
