  1. My Columbus unit appears to have an issue with not being able to delete anything from memory. Saved destinations can be deleted but reappear when unit next starts. If I set a new destination and then switch off, say at a fuel station, the destination is set back to a previous one. This destination is always the same. I have tried all delete options as well as factory reset. It is nothing to do with voice tags being assigned. FW - 5238 Maps - 8515 Any ideas?
  2. Guess who called again today? I think the poor girls ears are still ringing!
  3. I had a very, very long discussion with a lady asking why they passed my details onto another party. It turns out they are working in the same building as the Skoda UK emissions team. They are not employed by Skoda UK but are agency staff as far as I could work out or she would admit to The funny thing was that Skoda had my phone number as 01234567890 and she was confused as this is obviously incorrect. When I asked where my number was that they called, it is in another database run by Skoda UK but read only to customer service, apparently entered by dealers. After more discussion and bleather from Skoda, I am awaiting the contact details for their Data Protection Compliance Officer to discuss things further
  4. Hi, Received a call from 03451126607 today from someone saying they were calling on behalf of Skoda UK but they were evasive when questioned so I called Skoda UK and it turns out it's the emissions team trying to contact those who have not yet had the update carried out. I am not the first to call them with my concerns! I asked why, after three letters and two calls from different dealers where Skoda had been informed that at this moment in time I do not wish the emissions update to be carried out, has the penny not dropped? My record has now been updated to show that at present, the emissions update has been declined. It looks like they are working hard to try and convince us non believers to change our minds
  5. Get the water pump replaced at the same time. I have just had my belt and water pump done, two days before the work was due to be carried out the water pump failed anyhow so it is a false economy not to have the pump replaced. Tensioners come as part of the kit, no point in just replacing the belt.
  6. You could try rubber spring assisters or upgrading the rear springs. There are some old threads on Briskoda. What is the nose weight of your caravan?
  7. If I remember correctly, for the 16" wheels they were set and for the 18's I had to adjust.Adjusting is easy as all you do is remove bolts that squeeze the chains together. They come with a size sheet that tells you what to remove for what size tyres. All the tools you need are also supplied.
  8. Very easy. Move mirror all the way up to get a gap at the bottom. You can then access the bulb holder to pull it out. Some say you need to remove the mirror but you can do without doing so avoiding the possibility of breaking the mirror! A pair of long nosed pliers may be needed if you have big fingers.
  9. I have been using the K-Summit chains for around 5 years now and they are a dream to use. Yes, they are not cheap but they fit in minutes, no having to reach around the back of the wheels etc. and no clearance issues on my 18" alloys with regard to wheel arch liners. I will never use any other type of chain again. I got my set from italy via Amazon for around £212. Amazon currently have the K23 for £229. The K23's also fit my winter wheels (205/55/16) but you do need to readjust the length. If you get a set, take the time to adjust the chain length as in the instructions and have a dry run fitting. I've used them on sheet ice in the French Alps without problems when the winter tyres needed assistance. Thule have now moved these to the Konig company. I have snow socks as well which are good in loose snow but when it gets icy I will always fit the chains. There is discussion over are they accepted in the mountains as chains and it depends what / who you read as to what to believe.
  10. The unit can be taken apart, it is not 'sealed'. You need to remove the end caps. To do this I slid a terminal screwdriver up each side to access and release the clips and the spring and tube inside can then be removed. The end of the spring had snapped on mine which is bent into a loop so I just made a new loop and retensioned. It is a bit fiddly but only took about 45 minutes. Retensioning the spring correctly can be frustrating but a few attempts got it set OK.If your up to have a go, it can be fixed.
  11. Have you tried standard batteries just to check the torch works out of the car?I had this after having a towbar fitted on my new estate. The fitter had not plugged the wiring loom back in and had to remove the side trims to access. Has your car had a towbar removed before you purchased?
  12. Thanks for the heads up.I found a repair service on ebay, £17. The key was posted to them on Monday, returned today (Wednesday) with button repaired. Received a call yesterday to say key was ready and they were checking what car it was for so they could supply any resynchronisation advice that may be needed. They confirmed no resynchronisation would be needed for the Superb. I can only recommend the service supplied. If anybody else is interested it can be found searching for skoda remote repair on ebay. Seller is oppysteve. Regards, Kevin.
  13. Hi, The lock button on my key fob has just stopped working. Has anybody any experience with obtaining a replacement, prices etc.? The car has done 70000 in 2 years 10 months, first problem to date. Many thanks. Best regards, Kevin.
  14. As already said, brake fluid recommended after 3 years then every 2. At my last service dealer tested fluid and gave me the reading that was, if I remember correctly, a water content % which was @ 1% with 4% being the max reading. Ask the dealer for the same. If one dealer does it as part of the service then they all should. I was also offered an air con service which I declined due to my belief of if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it! If air con is a problem I tend to use a local specialist rather than a Jack of most trades. Regards, Kevin.
  15. Whilst the nav voice is active (playing) use the volume control to adjust or do it as already indicated in setup. Regards, Kevin.
  16. Push the dealer, it's a case of 'the computer says no'! If they want the sale they will help with your request, they just have to sort the order process so the build info contains the correct data at the factory. I run 16" winter wheels with no problem and the ride is better than the 18" alloys but don't look as good. As previous posters have said it simplifies things with the insurance company if the car is supplied with the wheels you want as they would be classed as a factory fit option rather than a later addition. Regards, Kevin.
  17. I have not noticed this. When I stop the lights move in to a more straight ahead alignment. Do yours do this? If you are not happy could you get someone to film the issue and go armed with it back to the dealer as evidence of the problem so they are aware of exactly what you mean. How has the dealer tried to recreate the problem? Regards, Kevin.
  18. The one that sits between the towball and hitch. Works very well. Regards, Kevin.
  19. I'm not looking to open up a cam belt discussion but just after some info - Did the dealer recommend the cam belt change @ 80,000 or did you make the decision. I only ask as the dealer who just serviced my 61 plate 170 has said 120,000 or 4 years? The handbook says 130,000 miles (210,000 km) for my engine code with no time specification. I am not worried by the 4 year issue. I am currently, for what it is worth, writing to Skoda Uk for clarification and the variations will be questioned as every dealer should be using the same service schedule. The same dealer informed me that my warranty won't expire @ 60,000 as the warranty is two years unlimited mileage and 60,000 in the third year! If only this were true. I do 25,000 miles a year so will be thinking the same thing around Christmas with regard to changing but again have had no issues rather than the hatch struts failing being replaced under warranty. Regards, Kevin.
  20. You can use a set of scales at the hitch using a pole between the 2 or get a spring gauge designed for the job. You can get a jockey wheel with a gauge built in but you need to do a calculation to get the correct reading.I use a Reich digital gauge, easy to use and works well after trying all of the above. Regards, Kevin.
  21. What does it say in the service book? They should have filled that in with either a mileage and date or as my last service shows variable for mileage and August 15 as a date since it was last serviced last August. Funnily enough I have just had a letter, post card and an email pointing out I may have missed a service. When I received a further phone call offering a wheel check for £25 because of potholes I asked them to stop pestering as their records are wrong! My display was showing 2500 miles to service or 501 days! It looks like they may have records that show you on fixed rather than variable. Regards, Kevin.
  22. I believe it may be a data issue as the number of messages now being received is a lot less than before. This started for me before Christmas. The road works on the A23 at Handcross Hill were a permanent feature but now they do not appear.
  23. Hi,Yes it looks like the file by josi in the thread on VWnavi - http://dfiles.eu/files/d7kweoasp Both files look to be the same one. Be aware there is always a danger when playing with firmware. Regards, Kevin.
  24. I would carry out the battery drain update before anything else to see if this clears the problem. Once you are happy the the firmware fix has sorted the original problem think about upgrading the firmware. The revision is either viewed via the version info option (holding setup button), via VCDS or on a sticker on the side off the unit. Read the warnings on the link you provided particularly regarding the partitioning issue before upgrading the firmware to 4024. Regards, Kevin.
  25. Hi, I purchased the fuse holder on eBay. Search for piggyback mini fuse holder. I believe I used a company called Autostar. A selection can be found here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/321280328423?lpid=83&device=t&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=83 I also mis-applied the term accessory. The Superb has three positions - ignition off, ignition on and start engine. I have used a spare fuse position that goes llive in the ignition on position and goes off when the car is switched off, avoiding any possible battery drain? I could not find a position in the fuse box that switches on when the key is inserted and off when removed. I used an empty fuse position so the circuit was independent from any others. I hope this helps. Regards, Kevin.
