  1. I hope we can get some clarity in this. I do not want to screw up a new gearbox
  2. It was interesting to read the experiences of 1,4 and 1,2 DSG Owners. I have a 1,2 TSI Octavia with the 7 speed Automatic double clutch gearbox under build. It is taking nearly 5 months probably my own fault for ordering all the extras. I did test drive an estate with this engine configuration and I did notice a lag hitting the gas pedal when starting from a standing start, compared with my present 1,9 diesel Fabia estate.Although the listed figures for break horsepower (105) there is quite a difference in torque 240N.m at 1800 rpm in the diesel and 175 N.m at 4100 rpm in the 1,2. I maybe making a mistake having concerns over the differences in these engines. So it would be good to hear if anyone has had any similar experiences. kh
  3. Happy New Year Finland. I see you have the same engine (and colour) of the Octavia I have on order.I understand from you post that the Yeti works well in snow and ice conditions. I was wondering how you use the automatic gearbox in difficult conditions for example on an icy bend,do you manually drop it a gear ?? or use sports mode. It has been some years since I have driven an automatic in winter. Rgds Keith Oslo
  4. Hi John. I have recently test driven the New Octavia estate with the new 1.2 fuel injection engine and 7 gear automatic DSG. It was truly amazing what they have done. I was a little concerned about such a small engine as I am used to 1.9l 105bhp fabia but a apart from a slight lagt from a standing start the acceleraction was truly amazing as the gear changes happen in a instant. Also a really good feel of a quality car inside and out. So go and test drive one,if you dare, you will be lost for life !!! While I am here,I have a question, as you are from Scotland,is it now becoming more common for drivers to get a seperate set of winter tyres? They are compusory in Norway,in the sense that your vechile must be equipped for the driving conditions, so if you have a prang in winter driving on summer tyres, you will have your insurance reduced and probably be fined as well. Seeing chaos that happens in the UK when two inches of snow falls, I would imagine a set of rims and winter tyres would be worth the original investment. Regards Keith
  5. Greetings from the frozen North. After nearly 4 years of driving a 1.9 deisel fabia estate, I have now ordered a 2012 Octavia 1,2 TSI DSG. I really wanted the 1.4,but I was told that the 1.4 was being phased out as the 1.2 was a good as the 1.4 and cheaper. I was very impressed with the test drive performance, although I did notice a lag flooring it from a standing start, but I have not tried the sport mode yet. I will have to wait (nearly 5 months build time) I may be preached to the converted, but I am a fully converted Skoda lover. The Fabia has been fantastic both on long journeys ( the longest was from Oslo to Devon during the Volcanic ash crisis) or as a work horse filled up with junk for numerous journeys to the tip. Road holding as been excellent on all kinds of snow and ice (winter tyres)and I have never lost control regardless of conditions and no problem starting, even at minus 16c.Another main reason for buying another Skoda has been the service. It has been second to none, they even fixed and repaired a jammed seatbeat in the back seat free of charge even though it was entirely my fault. I begin to wonder if it is part of Skoda's policy to provide the best possible service,to keep the customers coming back.If it is it works..... Regards Keith Hall
