  1. Hi Folks, I had the same a/c delay problem until yesterday. Got my Superb II TDI 170 DSG to the shop and they replaced the compressor under "grace" warranty (we only get 2 year "real" warranty here in Israel), which meant they paid for only 70% of the parts, leaving me with 30% of the parts and the labor costs. Now, reading this thread:http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=254699&page=8 seems that only a valve (RCV) on the compressor needed to be replaced. So: 1) Anybody else experiencing delayed cooling: be smarter... 2) Would you go back to the shop and re-open the case? Uri
  2. Anyhow - thanks for the info, tris - it made the difference between semi-panic and cool-headed troubleshooting :-)
  3. I fixed mine: removed the radio, pulled out the outer vent assembly, and after looking for about 20 minutes (with a torch!), found a wire blocking the (left side) mechanism. Note that there are moving parts on both sides - at first I only saw the right side. As I suspected, the offending wire was part of a tracking device installed a couple of weeks ago by a "pro"... Sorry, but I didn't have the presence of mind to take a couple of pics.
  4. tris, did you have this sorted out? If so, do you know what was the problem? Mine is acting the same as you describe.
  5. Just for future reference: When replacing my car's battery last week (2 years old, out of warranty for a full month!), I left the engine running, and avoided the resets to all the computers....worked like a charm! Uri
  6. I'd like to reproduce this! In winter, we need the headlights always on (drl isn't good enough) - and I'd like to keep the auto functions....
  7. There is a patch for the tables driving the fuel gauge - might ask the dealer to reprogram ?
  8. On mine, when the climatronic is on auto, the center vents are on when I set a low temperature (lower than ambient) and off when higher.
  9. If this is the air box, it is a (very) quick fix by the dealer.
  10. I just went back to some of the info I read, and there is a worry that silicone grease is acidic... Ebay has the krytox in very small quantities- 5ml should do it, in my opinion.
  11. Maybe, but if VAG is buying this for this application, they probably have a reason...
  12. Apparently, the Dupont stuff is inert, and won't affect the rubber (or any plasticizer etc. within) in any adverse way..
  13. Hi! I had an annoying rattle/squeek when going over road bumps or potholes. Turned out to be the door seals. Read up on this in VW/etc. forums, and found that the VW grease is actually DUPONT KRYTOX GPL-205. Bought some off ebay, five minutes work and all is well! Expensive stuff, but should last a very long time, and a very small amount actually used. Hope this helps anyone :-)
  14. Yeah, right .... I'll remember that the next time I have to pay them: maybe I'll offer a working, but optimistic check
  15. Has anyone managed to get Skoda to do this under warranty? Or is it only possible with VCDS?
  16. I had the bass distortion fixed two weeks ago, under warranty (1 yr old): turned out the window winding mechanism was too close to something else (outer door panel?) and vibrated against it. Some padding fixed it. Replacing the speakers wouldn't have :-) A side note: At first, they took a CD with a song with some bass I had complained about, put it in another car and (so they said) heard the same buzzing, so faulted the CD ... I then decided to replicate the buzzing using a constant tone input into the aux - I used a laptop PC to generate a tone, search for the right frequency (70Hz did it, in my case) and once I had it, I let them loose on the car. 20 minutes later, there were smiles all around.
  17. It's mentioned actually in the book ... not very clearly, though. When I was shopping for a second-hand superb, two sellers assured me that it only parks to one side. Was glad to find the instructions in the book. :-)
  18. 46, wife 46, children 46...no, not really: 17,14 and 8 I ride a BMW C1 ("look, ma: no helmet!") to work, fly gliders for fun, and as an excuse to take the Superb for a spin
  19. Well, compare it at vw.com and vw.co.uk and you'll see they are pretty much different cars...
  20. Hi! Just noticed this: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b7/2012-vw-passat-tdi-forum-buying-guide.htm http://www.vw.com/en/models/passat/trims-specs.suffix.html/pageindex=1.html#/tab=55341d7011db9a6e06aa186de123d61a Is it me or is the new American Passat specc'ed very similar to the Superb? The NA Passat is about an inch longer, wider and taller than the Superb, but the philosophy seem very similar. Even back seat legroom, trim level etc. seem very similar - much more than the new European Passat What do you think?
  21. Oh well... visited the main Skoda garage (Israel). One rev-up and the "diagnosis specialist" said he knows what it is and promised to fix it. (Got the buzzing bass on front right hand door fixed as well). Amazing how quiet the engine became!!!
  22. yes, that's what they look like. Still a mystery to me how they got there :wonder:
  23. Sorry - can't get a photo online at the moment :-( Nothing really to see: yellow (almost flourescent) plastic balls, 6mm in diameter.
  24. Hi All, For a few days now I noticed an annoying rattle, as if something was loose in one of the rear doors, and was rolling back and forth each time the car accellerated or decelerrated. So I pried the bottom of the door "card" a few milimeters, (loosened a small torx screw) and five small plastic, yellow balls, 6mm diameter fell out. The door is silent now :-) but, I am starting to worry: where did they come from, and won't they be missed? Anybody has an idea?
