  1. Looking at a 1.2 tsi 85 2015 model. Are these best avoided? I remember reading about problems with timing chains on these engines?
  2. Woops, that needs updating, left Scotland a while ago now. Thanks for flagging that..
  3. Yes it's a 1.0 TSI 90. It's at a vauxhall dealer so I think you just get the bare minimum 90 warranty as standard. I'd prefer to get our local indy to do the belt if they'll knock some cash off the asking price. The car has also been in stock since September, which makes me slightly suspicious! Anyway, apparently the water pump runs off a separate belt so that stealers price is just for the cambelt. I was expecting £550 ish but £700 is just silly
  4. Looking at a 68 plate with just over 30k miles. The price doesn't seem out of the way but is it reasonable to ask for some discount as the timing belt will need doing? Before September if it's now every 5 years. DM Keith have quoted me £711 😂
  5. Thanks for this. Yes it does have central locking. Do you reckon this one is worth a punt? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223707195683?hash=item3415fce923:g:qSwAAOSwgsddpglh&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4FiiiXJUejJtpgavgO9YnbbqjJZDYfvKkdVAHahuxR9ktNs%2FyNVk6nxx2tVpN1CgME9x0NibuhAYZFfBVTUL8QC7KfiyXNMcNTKAcfe5Jbf2VBijDyxb8hnupi1plZqozT03tUOr4mBv4rzAHh81Y%2B0i6HWdfrSTt1rk1tbdDU%2BEHlN1jr5xRKLyV54aeQVqdmK5Vz7pt2s2JR8utRyEOlFetrr5AAcr%2FcLkog9iVxJ3MIiHUAgz2FN7Ij3tTqnaRTiQpwHv0uvhgLpEg5xxGCyC8EjdV0YyADqe%2BBPbQOWm|tkp%3ABFBMpITwg79g The compatibility table is confusing me as it lists 2008 models as 6Y, but as far as I can tell it looks the same as the OEM part you linked me to, which according to this is suitable for Mk II up to the facelift: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5j0839016-rear-right-door-lock-18313.html. At that price it's a good deal less than the dealer so I'm tempted to have a go...
  6. Driver's side rear door lock actuator has failed and needs replacing. Does anyone know the part number or where i can get an aftermarket replacement? It's for a 57 plate MK2. TIA
  7. Rear door lock has failed- grateful if anyone can link me to any existing guides as to how to go about accessing and replacing the lock from the inside? The only posts i can find are for a mk1. Thanks in advance.
  8. No, just tried it, no change. So it’s definitely not the battery. Also tested the fuse which is ok. So I suppose either the alternator has somehow seized up as you suggested or there is a loose cable or connection somewhere between it and the battery(?) which occurred whilst the car was parked. Or i wonder if there is a sensor/switch which turns the alternator on which might have broken? So it’s looking like like I need to find a mobile mechanic...
  9. Just tried tapping it with a rubber mallet, no difference on the multimeter. Think I’ll have to accept defeat and have it looked at ! Thanks for the suggestions though 👍
  10. The battery is showing 12.31 volts. It’s a 57 plate, the fuses (no 1 on top of the battery as you say) looks ok. I’ll try swapping with the battery out of a little Agila , it’s recently been changed so I know that’s a good one., although it is a smaller capacity than the one in the skoda, hopefully that won’t cause any issues
  11. Yes the belt is there. I’m thinking it must be the battery because all was fine 2 weeks ago when it was last driven. Surely the alternator couldn’t have packed up whilst the car was parked for 2 weeks? 🤔 I wonder if the battery is worn, could that cause it not to accept charge (?) And presumably cause the light to come on, steering to fail etc
  12. Hoping someone can help with this... Slightly puzzled - car (1.4 tdi) not used for a couple of weeks , started fine but alternator light came on and stayed on. On way back from short trip, steering packed up, clearly not enough power to run the power steering. Never had issue with it charging before. I’ve charged the battery and tested it with the engine on, no increase in volts suggesting it is indeed not charging (alternator light still on). It just seems a real coincidence that this has happened after not using the car for a while. Could the battery be the problem? It is quite old but then even so surely it would show as charging when tested with the engine on(?) thanks in advance for any suggestions!
  13. Have a 2007 Fabia II 1.4 tdi, trim '3' Front sidelights - sometimes - only one of them comes on. One time only driver's side was on before starting the engine, but then with engine running both were on. Any ideas what could cause this? Thanks
  14. Hi there, Recently moved to Maidenhead area, looking for any recommendations for an independent garage for service/MOT and potential gearbox work (selector fork) on a Furby? Out towards Reading or Heathrow area would also be OK Any tips much appreciated... gf has already been stung by the local stealer for a coil and bearing
