  1. should come off m8, try squeezing the very back of the clip and pushing it further on whiile giving it a wiggle, then pull, it may not be releasing because its hard against the clip. worth a try!
  2. Just a quick point if you are getting a 0.100A battery drain. Ive just been trying to find what the drain is and it turns out that it switches off after 30mins and current draw drops to around 0.010A . Just thought I'd post this to save others wasting their time. cheers all
  3. Seems that I've been chasing my a*** on this one. It turns out that the 0.100A draw switches down to 0.010A after 30mins. Must be a timer. I think I will get battery tested as when I put it on charge the battery charger never wen't above 2amps which doesn't seem right for a battery that is flat. The alternator is giving 14 volts when running but mabey its having the same trouble as the charger the battery doesn't seem to be taking charge.
  4. oh dear! will clear it again and put up with it for now then, don't really see that i can do much with an internal fault. do you think it could actually be moisture on the chips, can they be opened up and dried out?
  5. just fitted new hu but had the same problem with original hu fitted, will check out ignition switch, will disconnect hu first to see if it cures fault
  6. Hi all I have 2001 Fabia 1.4MPI 8v . I have been trying to find the cause of a parasitic drain on battery. So far I have connected ammeter to battery terminal and found the drain is through terminal 2 at battery. I pulled the interior light fuses and then pulled each fuse in turn but no effect on current draw. The draw is 0.110A I have noticed that if the terminal 2 cable is disconnected (did this by accident while testing) that when reconnected there is a small rise in current then a return to only 0.010A almost like something switched off that hadn't previously. any help would be greatly appriciated, I have vcds lite, could this be any help in diagnosing the problem?
  7. Hi everyone, I am about to fit a Kenwood head unit to replace cassette player. I recently started using Vcds lite to diagnose a few probs and read that some aftermarket stereos can damage usb port. Does anyone know what actually causes this, is it the stereo or the way it has been wired? I have read a few topics on it but nobody says what causes this to happen. cheers
  8. Went looking for another cheap car to replace Fabia 1.4 8v 2001, was looking at Honda,Toyota around 03-05, they had loads of rust, no rust on the skoda, stuck it through MOT passed 1st time, guy said it looked good underneath and sees much worse on later cars. will be keeping for a few more years me thinks!
  9. Hi all, I have a Fabia 1.4 8v 2001, which had EML on. Read a few threads and used vcds lite. Seem to have cured fault with purge valve but keep getting P1640-35-00 . Am I going to need a new ECU to cure this? If so is it coded to the car or can it just be changed Any advice appreciated
  10. Well you learn something new every day! I assumed the VRS's would be 16 valve, I'll take another look in the morning, I just couldn,t see anything relating to the exhaust manifold, It made me wonder because Haynes manual does not list EGR fitted to ATZ engine type.
  11. Does anyone know where the EGR valve is on the 8 valve engine, or if it even has one, I must be going blind because I cant find it!.The last time the engine management light was on the guy at local garage said he cleaned the EGR but I am now thinking he just put the light out, as it came back on 2 days later.
  12. Cheers ,but the EGR is there on the 16v but i cant find iton my 8 valve model, the exhaust is at the rear of the engine. I will go post on the model specific forum to see if anyone knows, as this point starts to run off topic
  13. I am thinking of buying a U280 Fault code reader to use on a Fabia 1.4 8v due to engine management light on. Was wondering if anyone had used one and if its any good. The last time the light was on the guy at the garage said he had cleaned the EGR valve, when the light came back on a couple of days later I thought I would do the same, only to find that either I am going blind or it doesn't have one! Cheers
  14. Have a Fabia 1.4 8v which keeps presenting me with problems, so here I am ,hopefully to find answers and help out with one's I can assist with.
