  1. Interesting as your figures certainly sound better than some off the rest I am hearing ! What do you mean around the doors 28/30 mpg as opposed to city centre driving at 19 mpg ?
  2. 20 mpg around town ? To be honest from asking around i was under the impression it was nearer 25/26 around town and around 35/36 motorway, Was even getting around 24 around town in my Subaru impreza wrx and I thought that was bad !!!
  3. Kinda thought this thread would go this way !! to be honest having sifted thru some off this sellers negative feedbacks it would appear there are a few who are not happy with these covers and I get the impression they actually look better in the pictures than in real life !! As already mentioned I know a lot off folk swear by using Hamerite and have not had to repaint even after several years. I bought a small pot off paint from an ebay seller once, came with brush, sandpaper and even a pair off throw away gloves !! at under a tenner it looked great for the several years it was on my old car and if I remember correctly he did most colours ? will see if I can find the advert for you and post back if so.
  4. Do the newer 2007 onwards octavia or fabia vrs models have projector style headlamps ?? must admitt have fitted them to my last two cars and I have to say for the money paid for them they were one off the best mods I made to the car.
  5. Must admitt certainly from the pictures they actually look okay eh ??!! at that price would certainly be worth a try !! main thing would be deciding what colour to go for ??!!
  6. Excellent cheers folks, appreciatte the coments regards the tight handbrake noticed during the testdrive, yep did wonder if it was possibly just a trate off the octavia vrs off these particular years ?? and having not driven one before I obviously had nothing to compare it with. have certainly noticed that prices seem to vary widly with the vrs just now, there is a 2008 vrs estate with similar sub 30k mileage and just one owner listed on ebay just now for £10500 thats actually 2k over what the one I test test drove at the local garage this week !! have noticed the diesel versionz off the same year, spec are a lot more expensive, possibly more demand ?? end off the day is no doubt down to high road tax / insurance and petrol prices making bigger cars just not so easy to move on these days hence it effecting the price .
  7. Hi guys first off all as always thanks so much for the replies / info, have since decided that this car is not the one for me, to be honest its looks nice and does look very, very clean for its age from the pictures in the advert but going to go with gut feeling and give it a miss !! sorry for the double post regards this car its just that as the other post was specifically about the remap I thought I would put it within the tuning section off the forum, this one as regards folks overal thoughts on the car in general. yet another Octavia vrs came up for sale today at a local garage, 2008 model in blue, petrol estate, one owner with 44000 miles, fsh : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201205446014439/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/9000/price-from/7000/model/octavia/make/skoda/radius/40/quicksearch/true/page/1/postcode/ky118bf?logcode=p# spoke to the salesman and they say there cars come with a six month warranty, are all up to a certain standard to be sold by themselves , asked regards the cambelt and was advised that it had not been done, did say all cars get a manufacturers spec service prior to being sold and that if skoda recommend a cam belt change at 4 years on this model then they would have to do it, is it the water pump or pump belt ( sorry bit new to all this ??!! ) that is better being changed whilst the cambelt is being done?? ask as would obviously be better to have this done at the same time for piece off mind. did these 2008 models all come with the extras such as xenon lights, jumbo box etc etc ?? when pressed regards asking price they did say the price shown was the very lowest they would accept , seeing as there is no trade in I guess I may get it down slightly- opinions at asking price ?? whilst not particulaly high at 44k on a 2008 its certainly slighly higher than some others I have seen lately but hopefully get to test drive it this week and see how it looks / drives.is 44k much on a modern engine like the vrs ?? did mention in one off my other posts that the one I drove the other day which was actually my first ever drive in a octavia vrs ( 2008 petrol ) seemed to have a problem with the handbrake in that there was virtually no travel on it and did not seem to go down very easily, are the 08 octavias like this, or this possibly a problem ??- car only had 27k on it. sorry for the constant questions guys beginning to understand things now but would obviously just rather gain as much info as possible to help make sure I get the right car sure you will all appreciatte that !! thanks
  8. Honest thoughts on this car guys ?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110817323657&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 1/ Nice colour 2/ only two owners from new 3/ decent mileage 4/ some nice additional extras owner says has printout showing 279BHP which I find a bit hard to believe ie 79BHP more than standard, is on the original clutch, original cambelt, would obviously have the cambelt changed asap, just how would this car cope with an extra 79BHP off mods ??!! car has been mapped by Star performance in Fife which I know a lot off the locals on here personally recommend. honest thoughts on car thou ??? cheers
  9. Okay perfect appreciatte you letting me know, nice to here you got a buyer in the end, best off luck with you new one, pics when you are ready !!
  10. Noticed a newly listed race blue octavia vrs petrol on ebay tonight and owner was claiming some 280BHP via a star performance remap etc, 80BHP is one heck off a jump from the claimed 200BHP, can a remap off such results be achived and just how much strain would this put on the car ?? sorry not sure if linking is allowed on here ?? if not please remove but this is the car in question, looks nice, anyone here ?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-octavia-vrs-/110817323657?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item19cd3a2a89
  11. Sorry to bump this thread so soon guys but just wonder if anyone could offer any advice on the above ?? very interested in this particular car but would be great to here from others regards the handbrake and the other points I have raised before I go ahead with the purchase. thanks
  12. Give me a price to convince me to make the trip south from scotland to view / buy this car asap ??!!
  13. Okay guys in my search for a nice low mileage Octavia vrs estate I went to view one today, 58 plate petrol version with just 27,000 miles on the clock, registered with skoda and then one private owner, gleaming red in colour which I must admitt looked nice, couple off things thou : 1/ Deep gouge out off one off the new contintental tyres - obviuosly would require replacing asap. 2/ few marks on rear bumper / boot area-kinda expected this from an estate anyway and would use one off the protector plates on it if buying the car. 3/ the surface off one off the alloys was kerbed, unusually not the rim the actual suraface area. 4/ Interior was clean enough, lighter panels off the seats were either slighty stained or just the way the pile lay, can them be cleaned back to as new ?? otherwise cabin was fine, rear boot area a bit marked along the rear shelf area but there was a boot tray etc installed and am sure a touch up off black paint would get it looking good again. Took the car for a drive and it felt fine, not overally powered but comming from a subaru impreza wrx was not expecting too much !! only managed a short run as petrol light was on and did not want to get stranded and have to phone garage up !! one thing I did notice on the car as soon as I went to drive it was there was next to no travel on the handbrake, at first I thought there was something sitting under the handbrake lever that would not let it go down ?? but nope area was clear- is this normal on the octavia ?? car is priced at £8900, could probably get the car at £8500- given the low mileage etc is £8500 a good price for this ?? tax is up end off may and would be comming with a fresh mot and a months warranty. advice etc most welcome !!
