  1. I think always having to play second fiddle to VW is going to hurt Skoda. Is there any chassis or engine design done at Skoda anymore. I had a Felicia some years ago, and at least that chassis and engine were designed and manufactured by Skoda. I think one of the early Fabia's could claim the same.
  2. BTW thanks for the last advice regarding the oil. Might get that dome tomorrow.
  3. I have another problem. There is a whistle noise from the front of the engine. I think it is something to do with the pullies and belts just in behind the radiator. The more revs the louder the whistle. I still have about 1500 miles to do in the next 3 days before I get home. This could have been happening for while but I only heard it today because the windows were down. Is this something I need to get sorted before I get home or is it likely I'll get another 1500 miles out of it? John
  4. I am currently in Domaine de Marcilly in northern France and while it is fairly basic, it is also very nice. The price is right and the kids can play football, tennis and swim for free. There are other kids to play with and the road network makes getting around easy.
  5. Hi all. I am currently on holidays in France and this morning my 2002 1.9TDI Superb tells me it needs a service. There is still 5000 miles to go according the sticker Skoda put up after the last service. The car is not driven very much. Could it be that a certain time has lapsed so the car says it needs a service or is it intelligent enough to know that the car is in trouble and needs a service. The reason I am worried is that we drove at 130kph for over an hour yesterday. In Ireland there isn't the roads or the speed limits to do that. I also notice that over the last few days, I am occasionally stalling the car on takeoff. It could simply be driver error. The mpg figure has not dropped at all. It is still fine. So advice please. Is it likely that the car is OK or do I need to get it services while on holidays? John
  6. A close neighbor who is a qualified mechanic also suspected the injector wiring loom. Would I be able to get a 2nd hand wiring loom in a scrapyard. Are there any cheatsheets for how to extract one of these from a scrapped car. Also are there restrictions as to which car I could take it from. Does it have to be a 2002 TDi Superb or would any VAG 1.9 TDi injector loom do?
  7. I have a Skoda Superb 1.9TDi 2002 model. Of late when I start the engine, it seems to be down to 2 cylinders and the vehicle on board check states that there is an electrical fault in injector number 2. However if I drive it for 5 minutes, rev it slightly for about a minute, turn it off and immediately turn it back on again, I can drive the length and breath of the country revving beautifully on all 4 cylinders. Has anyone come across this before and what can be done about it. The Skoda garage want to replace the injector but that will cost about €800 John (Meath in Ireland)
  8. Is there any evidence to support the view that people buy Skoda cars instead of VWs. If VW were to ban Skoda from western markets, there is no evidence to support the view that those people who would have bought Skoda would go and buy a VW instead. Its far more likely that they would buy another budget priced quality car. With regard to moving production east. Are they further suggesting that Skoda cars would not be produced in the Czech Republic. I would think that Czech politicians would have a lot to say about that given the employment implications. John
  9. Hi folks I have a 1.3MPi Felicia (GLXI) to give away if necessary. It needs a reasonable amount of work to get it past the NCT here in Ireland or the MOT in Northern Ireland. I think the engine and gearbox are OK, but the exhaust needs replacing as the emissions are very high. I think the engine itself is OK as the fuel consumption has not increased since I bought it in 1997. I would HATE to scrap it, so if someone wants it, please call me at 087 6181992 or email me at [email protected] John
  10. I put the battery in recently and only noticed the live and negative leads. Is there a 3rd lead that should attach to the chassis. Also any hints as to where I can find the earth connections between the engine/gearbox and chassis. As I am looking from the front of the car, is this connection at the front/rear/left/right/top/bottom of engine etc. I was wondering if the suspected water leak from the heater mechanism could be interfering with the electric and causing this problem. John
  11. Hi folks I have a strange intermittent problem in my 1.3L MPI Felicia (1997). If I have the headlights on and I partially depress the clutch and accelerator, the headlights blink off for a second and then come back on. Also if I have the fan on a higher setting so that you can hear it, you can hear the fan temporarily cut out and then come back on. The alternator and battery are exactly 2 weeks old. I changed the alternator because someone said that the one I had in it was not the right one and that is what could be causing the problem. The new alternator is bought directly from Skoda. Someone else suggested it could be an earth problem. Does anybody have a diagram or a list of where the earth connections are. I also notice that I seem to lose water occasionally. I suspect it is when the heater is turned on. Could these problems be connected in so far as water is dripping onto some electrical connection? If anyone has heard of this problem and knows what to do I would be grateful. The mechanic who is going to fix it for me suggested I go on the internet and ask as someone else will have come across this problem and that will cut down his investigation time. John
  12. Hi folks I have a 1997 Felicia with an alarm added. For some time now I have the alarm turned off. However in the last week, when I start the car, the alarm will beep intermittently for several minutes. I also notice in the first few minutes of a journey, the headlights will appear to blink off when I take my foot off the throttle to change gear. I put a new alternator into the car 2 weeks ago. Could the alarm be trying to tell me the battery is failing John
  13. I am also having problems with temperature in a Felicia. I was driving hard (about 75mph) on the motorway, and I noticed the temperature creeping up. When I reduced revs, it cooled down again to normal, but would then creep back up even when the revs were kept low. I have driven the car since (about 100 miles) and no problems at all. There is no mixing of oil and water and there is plenty of both in the car. Could this be a broken thermostat? John
  14. There was some info on rally-info.com. The car is to be exhibited at the Geneva motorshow and testing is scheduled to begin in about 8 weeks. John
  15. Hi folks Any idea what has happened to rally-info.com. It has been off-line for 2 days now. John
  16. The Irish press has been very complimentry about the car, but dislike the name.
  17. Hi folks Got my 1997 Felicia serviced today just before its NCT test (Irish MOT). Was told that the headlights need replacing because the motors in them have seized. The cost will be between
  18. Hi folks I have a 1997 Felicia which I have owned from new. It has 110K on the clock ...... so be prepared for questions. John
