  1. Result !!!! Took battery off again for a few hours, reconnected and my display returned..... Happy chappy !!!!!!
  2. Cheers Juan, I have sent an email to them. -- In the meantime, does anyone have any names of companies nearer Newcastle who are experts in this kind of repair ?
  3. unfortunately, it is nearly a year out of warranty. I was hoping someone may know of any specialists in the North East area who may know how to repair it other than going to the main dealers especially as my MOT is due in Sept. Everyone who seems to do these kind of repairs seem to be based in or around London !!
  4. It was just a light wipe !!! lol !! From what I have been reading on google, it apparently is a common occurance !!! Beware fabia 2 drivers when wiping dashboard cluster !! -- I have been quoted around the £400 mark as it appears that the whole instument cluster will have to be replaced !! OUCH !!-- anyone got any ideas before I try to dig up the cash ??
  5. tried turning the ignition on / off -- didn't solve it. -- disconnected battery also. -- that didn't solve it either. -- Does anyone else have/had this problem and any possible solution ?? -- From what I have found on the net, it looks like a dashboard replacement (ouch) --- Anyone ????
  6. I cleaned my 59 reg fabia II on the weekend and when wiping the dashboard display with a cloth, the lcd instrument cluster vanished. -- has anyone had this happen to their Fabia and has anyone any suggestions on what I may do ?? I phoned the dealership (my car is out of warranty) and the extremely unhelpful girl on the switchboard told me to book it in and they will kindly do a diagnostic for me at a cost of £90 + vat and then let me know what they think it is. Any suggestions anyone ?? ( checked the fuse that the handbook says is the one responsible for the cluster (No. 5 fuse) and that was ok)
  7. got my Fabia back from Pulman Skoda in Durham after they serviced it and noted on the info pack that they supplied there is a voucher for two services (including an MOT) for £349. Not too bad ??? what do others think? BTW, Pulman Skoda were great, they picked up my car from where I work and returned it there for no extra cost.
  8. I phoned Benfield Skoda in Newcastle (are you listening Benfield Skoda?) and asked them if the offer of £299 for two services was available and after being transferred to SIX different people who were unable to answer my question, I was told I should ring their head office to find out if this offer was available. It just done my head in lol !!! --- I gave in and decided to stick with Pulman Skoda in Durham.
  9. booked the same service from Pulman Skoda today for £185 !!! thats over 100 notes cheaper !! -- got my back teeth returned !!!
  10. lol !!! so it seems that Benfield Skoda could be pulling my back teeth out !!! Pullman Skoda sounds like a good bet
  11. Hi, I have a Mk II fabia 1.2 ( the base model) and it has been a pretty good buy. ( i had an '99 Octavia from new previously) and it is time for the 2nd year service. I had a little warranty work done on the parcel shelf done a few month ago and they noted a slight leak on the water pump which I intend to get done with this service which I have booked to get done at Benfield Skoda in Newcastle. They have quoted me £298 for the 2 year service, but does anyone know if this is a decent price (they say the brake fluid has to be changed on this service) Is this about right or should I be looking at other alternatives? Ideally, somewhere around the South Shields area would be great !! Ta for any replies.
  12. yes, my parcel shelf hinge also broke on my fabia Mk2. You say yo got yours repaired on warrantee ? --- my fabia is 19 month old. surely my warantee wont cover that ?
  13. Yep, looked there but not a great deal going on ebay. probably go for a re-conditioned box.
  14. Got a 1.6 GLXi Mk 1 Octavia -- Driving home this evening and about a mile from home changed gear and something "popped". Pulled up at home and gearbox oil was pouring out of box, so called breakdown service who confirmed what it was. -- Looking thru the forums it appears that the diff rivets are weak and that the gearbox problem is common on the 1.6 models.( Typical !!) So....... does anyone have any recomendations of places in the north east (around South Shields) where I can get the problem sorted and an approximation of what the cost is likely to be ?
  15. Cheers to you all, have tried the key method and all of the windows went down apart from the drivers door one so it looks like a removal of the door panel as hopefully it is a loose wire (or something similar).
  16. Got a Mk 1 Octy and the drivers side electric window has stopped working. The other windows work fine from the switch on the drivers door. Anyone any thoughts on what the problem may be and is there any links with photos of how to remove the panel if needed.
  17. Cheers Nick. many thanks for the instructions. I will be giving it a go tomorrow as the weather has been nasty lately and i have had a severe attack of softieness. (cold weather and soft hands dont mix !!!! ) And a big Hi to everyone who tookthe time to read my question.
  18. The other morning brought ice to the windshield of my 1999 Octavia, and when I turned them on, only the left side wiper started working. Apparently, the right side linkage has become disconnected, and I need to know the steps required to access the linkage to hook it back up. Thanks for your help!
