  1. Goodbye Yeti hello Outback swapped cars today, the Yeti is a brilliant car and am a bit sad to see it go, first impressions of outback... well its bigger, doesnt steer as well as yeti but seems very planted, quick, love the cvt, and the adaptive cruise, lots of things to learn about. I’ll say more in 3 months
  2. I dont think I was unlucky but I did do lots of miles. But I aways have a walk around and look at the vehicle and have found inclusions in the tyres but not yet punctures, in 3 or 4 cases the screw or nail hadnt pierced the tyre only the tread, but it might have done if I had carried on driving on it. So the wheel was changed and checked at a suitable tyre fitter. Twice I have had problems with split valves, checking the tyre pressure they leaked from the base, again as I had a spare I could change it.
  3. ‘In 40 odd years of driving cars, motorbikes, and lorries I can remember every single puncture, only one occured whilst driving and that was in the mid 80s on the M6 just short of “ Spagetti Junction” in Birmingham. At around 0730 traffic wasnt going very fast and as no one uses the inside lane any way ( dont get me started) I decided to have a go, with hazards and rear fog light on, my briefcase and a warning triangle further back up on the hard shoulder I changed the wheel in about 5 minutes. The Police arrived as I was collecting my briefcase and triangle.... they parked in front of of me, so much for their protection. Having a spare is not about changing it on the side of the road and I doubt if I would do that now, but its about having something so we can maintain progress, no spare on a Sunday in France means....well wait until ...Tuesday, if you are lucky. On every other occasion I have spotted the problem with something in the tyre and changed the wheel in a place of safety before setting off. I would think this must average out at about one incident every other year, so I believe a spare is vital.
  4. Yes it will have eyesight, but no spare wheel...that seems familar, though there is a deep well and mountimgs for one. Maybe my Yeti spare will fit, but I think its an inch to small, heard that before too.
  5. Also becoming Yetiless, and going for a Subaru Outback 2.0 dcvt. It will arrive in 2 weeks, I went to test drive the Forester, but came away being more impressed with the outback. I had never considered Subaru before reading some of the views of some of the contributors on here. So thanks to you gentleman. I still really think the Yeti is agreat car, having had 2,over 5 years I will miss it but, Skoda like most of them pedal fashion over substance. I couldnt get sensible answers re onwards guarantees, and their servicing schedule seems to me to be to do nothing for three years and then let the customer carry the cost from whats needed then as its out of guarantee. Still dont know what they would do on 3rd service.....except I would get a free vacuum and wash! Dealing with Subaru was quite different, the main importer followed up my enquiry and gave me quick clear answers to questions. A test drive was easily arranged and the dealer was was quite straight forward, no bullshxt and clear pricing, and offered a good deal, no pushing from them and I didnt have to sound like Trump to get the best result Lets see what happens when I get the car and how things go from there, but so far so good.
  6. As x19 my seats are kept in the garage. I carry two bikes an mtb and a road bike with just the front wheels removed. It makes a great shed though as Robjon commented not quite as good as the Roomster

  8. I used helicopter tape, a clear plastic laminate, cost less than £15 quid, and with a hair drier, soapy water and a bit of swearing stuck them on the front sills.
  9. Not sure what screen wash your using but it aint strong enough.. Up the concentration and make sure theres some of it in the nozzles before you good to bed. i was in Spain 10 days ago -10 an snow, the nozzles popped out of the headlights and cleaned them and the windscreen was cleared..no heated nozzles here. pete
  10. Just use a strong solution of screen wash and it wont freeze. Heater nozzles can only heat the bit of the solution passes through and at speed I doubt if it makes much difference. I’ve driven in temps below -30 C without heated nozzles...they didnt exist then, but a good strong wash solution...the smell would give you a lift!
  11. Our old 4x2 110bhp averaged 35-38 mpg towing our older Eriba Triton, around 1000kgs. When abroad we always used to use the dearer diesel, Excel etc and that gave the car more umph and better fuel consumption, we have seen 45 mpg! That was from Beziers to Bonneval via the Millau bridge and Clermont Ferrand. Our current Yeti dsg 4x4 just averages around 33-34, no matter what, its towing a slightly heaver Eriba Troll, perhaps 1100kgs. I’m happy with that having a bit more power and it seems even more planted than the old 4x2.
  12. My problem with a Yeti replacement is the Tardis effect. Cars like Kias and and Toyotas are much larger than the Yeti but inside are much smaller. I carry two bikes, an mtb and a road bike with just the front wheels removed. I also carrya full size spare wheel straped to the side rails next to the bikes. OK the rear seats are removed, but I tried a bike in the back of a kia and it wouldnt go in upright. A Honda CRV maybe a possibilty, but its bigger outside than the Yeti. The Karok or what ever its called has the removable seats and bikes would fit...but the tail gate slopes..and its a bigger car. Beforethe Yetis I had a Roomster, that lived up to its name, and before that Berlingo. Why dont car designers think about space instead of connectivity...
  13. Not that much snow but its a steepish climb and the trucks where going ok but car drivers were overtaking and then slowing down in front of them causing the truck to slow down or even stop. We were turned around and decended 7 miles, only cars but some of them were down to less then walking pace skidding all over the place foot on brakes, driving close ....I suppose they were looking for the driving on snow app....
  14. Pic didnt upload, see what happens
  15. This was us in Spain a week ago, got turned around due to trucks stuck in front. Havnt really pushed it at all and seems to stick like brown stuff to a blanket.. thats what I find a bit disconcerting as with a front wheel drive you when you have lost traction, and I am old enough to remember rear wheel drive cars too... .
