Changing Coolant On Vrs 2.0Tfsi
rsbspt replied to donovan's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
As far as I know coolant in VAG engines is a 'fit for life' item. You won't find changing coolant in the manufacturer's serivce schedule... -
Cold Start problems with a PD TDI 170
rsbspt replied to bubblec's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
No it isn't the glow plugs. I've changed mine and it made no difference to the issue of poor starting in low temperatures. -

We're getting way off topic here. This thread is to try to find a cure for the 'first start on a cold morning' problem. -

I'm sure they are. And that's one reason why the cold starting's got worse... -
Cold Start problems with a PD TDI 170
rsbspt replied to bubblec's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I've had the same problem for three of the four years I've had the car (vRS PD TDI). It was 'liveable with' until recently when the injectors were replaced under warranty. Now it takes extended cranking to fire up when cold and coughs and wheezes before finally running smoothly. Glow plugs also replaced to no effect. On one of these threads it was suggested the cause was cam sensor, but I can't see that, since it only happens when very cold (ambient below 3 degrees). The only posiitve is that the new injectors have significantly improved fuel consumption... -

Had replacement injectors fitted last week. Agree with massive improvement in fuel economy (10% better). Unfortunately it's made the cold starting issue worse. At 4degrees or lower, the engine coughs and stumbles on cold start-up (alredy fitted new glow plugs). Are we coming to the view this is a cam sensor problem? If so, does anyone know where the sensor is fitted, how much it is, and how difficult to change? I was wondering if the cold start problem could be due to a faulty temp sensor telling the ECU the temp was higher than it is, so not enough fuel is dispensed for start up. Just a thought...

I'd be interested in your evidence Mafuta, as in theory, progressively wound springs should ride better than Eibach's linear wound...
-
I've had ProKit and FSDs for four years but if I had my time over again I'd get H&R springs not Eibachs, because of the better ride quality (progressive rate springs).

As far as I know, the WALK is for the front (only), the Whiteline kit for the rear is a revised ARB. -

If you go for the H&Rs let us know how you find them. I'm thinking of changing my Eibach/Koni FSD set up for H&Rs ('cos they're progressive not linear) and (whisper it) Ohlins dampers. -

Why not invest in a set of Koni FSDs? They will sort out your hard ride...and much cheaper than changing your car! -

Next generation Octavia revealed
rsbspt replied to Bassa's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
According to CAR Magazine's website this new model is supposed to fit between Fabia and Octy (i.e. Focus size). -
Fair enough. Just wondered if over time the engine might run a bit smoother starved of its diet of gunge...
-
Excuse me revisiting this, but has anyone with a catch tank noticed (over time) any improvement to engine performance/running or oil/petrol consumption?

My first choice would be the Whiteline Anti-lift Kit: http://www.whiteline.com.au/articles/Effect%20of%20WL%20ALK_b.pdf http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail.php?part_number=KCA316 Available from JKM for one...

Many thanks. Does this 'cure' help with cars still fitted with their DPF? Or does it just cuase more problems? And out of interest, what happens to the 'crap' that can no longer go through the hole? -
