  1. You can check the compatibility of your phone with your Yeti here: http://compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com/ If I choose Yeti 2015 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 it shows red dots (not compatible) for MirrorLink
  2. It's worth noting that SmartLink is not MirrorLink renamed. MirrorLink is a technology invented by Nokia. SmartLink is a VW Group option that contains MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It causes a lot of confusion. My dealer told me I need to purchase an app for £75 to use GPS and SmartLink. That's not true. I might need to purchase an app for MirrorLink, but Android Auto app is free.
  3. I'm not sure if you know as you didn't mention it in your post... For Android Auto you need to install the app from the Play Store on your phone. If you can't find the app, that means you don't have Lollipop (Android 5.0)
  4. It was made already, but not in the UK yet. I wasn't the fussy about the color and I wanted the car for August. I wanted Smart Link and sat nav though, so my choices were still a bit limited.
  5. I ordered a Yeti L 2.0 4wd DSG L&K on Monday and the dealer said it would be in by middle of August.
  6. In that article: "8 - Android Auto will be able to use in-car hardware Android Auto runs on your phone, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to your phone’s hardware. Apps will be able to access the car’s own GPS and GPS antenna (if fitted), steering wheel controls, the sound system, the car’s wheel speed, its compass and any mobile antennas, and there are moves to access car data from the vehicle’s own computer too."
  7. Here's another article speculating on what the car currently tells Android Auto and what it will tell it in future versions: http://arstechnica.co.uk/cars/2015/07/android-auto-secrets-hint-at-vehicle-diagnostic-app-expanded-car-integration/
  8. From Ars Technica: "Location and speed input comes entirely from the car. The phone's GPS powers down, and Android Auto uses the car's on-board GPS (when available), wheel speed, and compass sensors. This not only saves power on the phone, but it's much more accurate." http://arstechnica.co.uk/cars/2015/07/android-auto-review-a-beautiful-but-beta-alternative-to-awful-oem-solutions/2/
  9. I've got an L&K on order with SmartLink in it. You might want to check out this recent post I started: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/365430-smartlink-and-android-auto/ I don't think the SmartLink comes as standard on any spec and I read on the FAQ that it can't be added afterwards: http://www.skoda.co....k-faqs/default/ Also, from what I read using Google Maps on Android Auto actually uses the sat nav of the vehicle, not the phone. This is because the car has an aerial that gets better signal than the phone inside the car. Keeping this in mind, I'm not sure Smart Link with Android Auto would work without car GPS...
  10. Hey domnall. Thanks for your reply. I've got a Nexus 6... Hopefully should be OK. I watched your video, thanks for mentioning it. I'm also pretty exciting about using Play Music (I have a subscription) and TuneIn (for podcasts). A couple of times the screen in your video looked a little laggy. How do you find AA in that respect. To be expected I guess... All the processing apparently happens on the phone and the screen is just streamed to the head unit as HD video - described here: http://arstechnica.com/cars/2015/07/android-auto-review-a-beautiful-but-beta-alternative-to-awful-oem-solutions/2/

    New Yeti

Question? I though all Yeti's had stop/start. But googling round, I see some posts that say that only Greenline's have s/s... Are they just old posts? Or is that still true do you know? I didn't see stop/start in the list of options available...
  12. Google Maps does use data. It has an offline mode where you can download the map beforehand, although I've never used it. I stream internet radio over 4G all the time, so I think Google Maps data is the least of my worries ;-) Would be interesting to know if anyone's had a big bill because of using Android Auto though.
  13. Yeah I had to pay for the extra. I don't think the SmartLink comes as standard on any spec and I read on the FAQ that it can't be added afterwards: http://www.skoda.co.uk/about-us/mirrorlink-faqs/default/ Did have a bit of a debate with the salesman about whether or not built-in sat nav is required for Android Auto... From what I read Android Auto will use the sat nav of the car rather than the phone for better accuracy and signal. The salesman seemed to think that I had to buy an extra £75 app for my phone and that it would use the GPS of the phone. My experience in the Disco is that the GPS of the phone doesn't work very well in the car. My mate told me it was to do with the heated windscreen blocking the signal. Don't know if that's true or not...
  14. Hi all, I currently own a 61 reg Disco 4, but my new Yeti L&K will be arriving in about 2 weeks. The feature that's got me most excited is the SmartLink with Android Auto. The thought of using Google Maps with proper traffic rather than the usual crappy car sat nav makes me wanna go on a long drive as soon as I pick up my car. The sat nav on the Disco was particularly bad - it was hard-drive based and it was expensive to upgrade because it had to be done at the LR dealership. Anyone here have experience using SmartLink? Especially interested in experiences with Android Auto (or the Apple equivalent, even though I don't have an iPhone)...

    Yeti L&K

I was at the Skoda dealer yesterday looking for a new Yeti. In the Yeti brochure that I have it lists the following as factory standard: "Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system with DAB radio and voice control" I've just ordered an L&K too and it'll be delivered mid-August. I wasn't bothered about the colour, so I got one that was already made I think. The dealer said that the factory in Czech Republic closes down for a month in August... that might be why your particular spec won't be available until Oct.
