  1. I had a look around Arnold Clark Skoda in Inverness just before Christmas, and three of the new cars in the showroom were fitted with Nexens.
  2. To return to this... Skoda were no help at all with getting the car down to Aberdeen. My choice to buy a car and take it off the mainland was what they said. I asked them if they would recommend that I buy a Ford, Peugeot or Vauxhall next time as we have local dealers for them! I took it to Specialist Cars in Aberdeen. Dropped it off on the Sunday afternoon. I phoned them on the Monday night and they had identified that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. Part was fitted and car finished by the Friday lunchtime so I collected it on the Saturday. Overall, very happy with Specialist Cars. The only downside is that they need to pay an extra wage and get someone to answer the phones! The service number rings and rings and eventually gets picked up by a salesman, who then tries to transfer you, takes a number and promises someone will call you back, but this doesn't happen. Ferry fares cost me a total of £170, but I guess we'll have to live with that. What did make me laugh was that the day after I got back with the car, there was a letter from Skoda trying to sell meeextended warranty!!
  3. Got a phonecall from customer services today. They are not prepared to help in any way. They said it was up to me to take it to a dealer and I was obviously aware of the fact there was not a dealer locally when I bought it in Edinburgh...
  4. E-mail sent to customer services, so we'll see what they say. J&W Tait's haven't been a VW dealer since 2008, but they are prepared to look at and have up to date diagnostic kit. Just a question of whether Skoda are happy to pay for me to have it done at a non dealer. Slightly off topic, but who is most likely to do a decent job if I have to take it to the mainland? Arnold Clark in Inverness or Specialist Cars in Aberdeen. Have heard good and bad reports of both.
  5. I had a 2007 Polo with the 70ps HTP (although I don't think VW called it that, same engine anyway) and now have a Fabia 1.2 TSI 86ps. I test drove a Polo with the slightly older 64ps before ordering my Polo. I was expecting it to lack power but was pleasantly surprised. I owned the Polo for 5 years and the engine never missed a beat. It outperformed most other 1.2 petrol cars I'd driven (Fiesta, Clio etc) and gave me about 40 mpg with mainly town running. As said above, they're not really designed for motorway driving: the gearibg means you are driving at high revs and the fuel economy suffers.
  6. It is still under warranty, but my nearest Skoda dealer is over 100 miles away plus a ferry crossing. Does anyone have any experience using the Skoda roadside assistance? The book that came with the car says it will transport it to the nearest Skoda dealer. It's not my fault it's so far away!
  7. I have a 2012 Fabia SE Plus 1.2 TSI (86bhp or something) and a strange problem started yesterday... While driving in the dark, the battery light and the low washer fluid lights came on. When I switched the lights off before stopping the car, these lights went off. The washer fluid was full, and the car starts as normal so I think it is charging (but havent checked yet). Tonight it did the same thing, and also when I opened the driver's door (engine off, key not in ignition), the battery and seatbelt not fastened lights came on. Any ideas? I'm thinking my instrument cluster is stuffed, or could it just be a software thing?
  8. I have a 2008 Octavia II hatch and the back wiper is not working. The washers work OK. Fuses are OK and you hear the clicking noise when operating the switch. We have swapped the motor and no difference. On the 4-pin connecter that goes into the motor, there are the following voltages Purple/Black - Always 12v Green/White - 12v when wiper switched off, 0v when wiper switched on Green/Red - As above 12/0v Brown - 0V Any ideas?
  9. Was offered £700 below the lowest bottom book price I found (Parker's) for my car as a trade in (below average mileage, full service history, new MOT, better than average condition) so needless to say, I'm going further south to pick up my new Fabia.
  10. I was speaking to a tyre rep the other day (I work in a garage) and he was saying that the customer must be given the label, or a copy of the details on the label. What is on these labels will make interesting reading. Too many people only consider the price and how long it lasts when buying tyres.
  11. Hello everyone! I thought I'd join this now. I've been lurking around here looking at the forums for a while but I thought this was a good time to join since I ordered my new car today  Getting a Fabia Estate SE Plus 1.2 TSI (86) in silver. They told me it should be end of April/early May so I've got a bit of time to wait (although nowhere near how long folk seem to wait for the VRS and some of the DSG models by what I see on here).
