The Improved Braking Thread
TB1 replied to myheartbeatsfortwo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I find the ABS system in the octavia is too sensitive and kicks in too soon, making stopping distances longer. -
Remember you won't need a tax disc holder come October!

Please help me m2 VRS running problem
TB1 replied to christophertarratt's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Knackered PCV, do a search, very common fault. It's well documented on other VAG forums. -

Starting real rough all the time
TB1 replied to ashS_skoda's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I had some rough running after the plugs were changed, once I took the plugs out I found the 'technician' had put Vaseline around them. My guess is they couldn't figure out how to remove the socket once the plugs were in! -
2007 octavia Vrs- 01435 fault code
TB1 replied to Lineman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Cost me around £350 at the main dealer last year. -
Mine was. Used quite a bit if oil till I changed the PCV when it showed signs of failure. Now it's hardly using any oil.

Skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI 4x4 - newbie buyer help please.
TB1 replied to Gastank's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The FSi 4x4 is very thirsty due it's short gearing. -
PCV and Diverter Valve need replacing before you do anything else. High/hunting revs are a sign the PCV is stuffed. Try removing the oil filler cap, if there's a strong vacuum or the engine doesn't stutter when you remove it then it needs replacing. The stutter on light throttle is likely to be a split Diverter Valve. These are both cheap and easy to replace before having to worry about things like coked up inlets.

Rev D is the newest. Rev G is older But better than a Rev C which are almost guaranteed to fail
-
Yes very common for these to go. You probably won't need a new gasket but it's about £16 if you want a new one.
-
Take the oil filler cap off. If there's no vacuum or a very strong vacuum then it's stuffed. Also the engine should stutter but not die but if it doesn't seem affected by removing the cap then it's time to change the valve. It's about a £30 part and takes about 20 minutes to change.

Octavia MK2 Electric Drivers Window
TB1 replied to Darren F's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Sounds more like the window rubber is tight and causing the window to drop down on the safety mechanism which detects if a arm etc is in the window. How old is the car? -
Lots of nice bits for a Mk2 Octavia - PICS ADDED ;)

DV please. PM'd -
If it falls through let me know.
-
PCV valve stuffed. Try pulling the dipstick out, does the car start running bad? If it doesn't then the PCV will need replacing.
-
Stock.
-
It gets a good run most days. I'm thinking of getting a new DV anyway as they're cheap and go from there.

07 TFSi vRS - when cold the engine stutters on light throttle like there's a misfire, but on anything other than light throttle it feels fine. Skoda recently changed the plugs as part of the service plan and I fitted some red top coils but it hasn't made a difference and with the colder weather it's making the stutter more pronounced. I've used my Gendan fault code reader which claims none are stored. I've also pulled the dipstick out and the car idles badly suggesting the PCV valve is working correctly. Any other ideas? Diverter Valve? Gunked up inlets? Dodgy spark plugs that Skoda haven't changed? This has only been going on for the last 3k miles or so!

I didn't say anything about hills. The lights react quick enough that when accelerating hard in a low gear the beam drops as the rear of the car drops or the nose rises. It's a simple system when the difference is measured between the height of the front and rear sensors and adjusts the beam accordingly. When cornering and travelling over a bumpy road, typically a country lane for me, is when I typically see this happening, and more so when turning to the left. I don't know which side the sensor is on but I'm guessing the offside rear wheel has one. The auto levelling is much quicker than the usual halogen headlights adjuster.
-
Mine do the same. It seems more when cornering and hitting a bump that does it. I put it down to the compression on the rear making the sensor think there's a load in the boot and dropping the beam level for an instant. Pleased mines not the only one!

Pre 06 Octavia cruise control warning light
TB1 replied to IanA's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
There is light when the system is active. Does the warning light illuminate when you first turn the ignition on? Possible bulb failure. -
The speed limit is there as you'll be running different size tyres on the same axle. The tyre has the usual V rating of any other tyre so is capable of more than 50mph.
