  1. Ok so I've bought some floppy aero wipers for my Octy, late Mk4 Golf ones, genuine VAG parts. (Ordered before the group buy....D'oh) I've spent most of today trying to get the original Octavia arms off the shafts. So far I've tried.... About half a can of WD40....Does nowt. Wiggling......Does nowt Heating them up a bit......Does nowt. Cooling them down again.......Does nowt. Wiggling more......Guess Pulling them from behind with a bit of rope / cable......Nowt Lightly tapping them with a small hammer......Nowt I even went to Machine Mart and bought a 'wiper arm' puller. And bent it straight away. So it does nowt too. Anyone any magic ideas? Ta, Paul
  2. As per the title, really. On an 02 plate vRS hatch (UK model) should it have a cigarette-lighter type power source in the boot. My Golf mk4 had one and it was surprisingly handy, eg to leave something charging hidden for a few hours when the car was in a car park or similar. Cheers
  3. I'll be going down from Newcastle if anyone is interested in a wee convoy. Paul
  4. Went to Barmoor yesterday for the blown coil pack on my Octavia vRS. Turned up unannounced on a Monday morning, chap was very helpful, checked he had a coil pack in stock then said he'd try his best to fit the car into a gap they might had at 4pm that afternoon. Phone rings at 5pm to tell me it's ready and can I come and pick it up.
  5. Thanks, I'll try taking it down first thing tomorrow. At least the thing still drives!
  6. That sprang to my mind too. On an 02-plate second (or third) hand car, should I be able to get a coil pack change under a recall? Sorry, I'm new to this 1.8T lark, must be old hat to you guys! Cheers for the quick reply.
  7. Hi guys. I've only had my vRS a month now and looks like it's thrown a wobbly again. :( :thumbdwn: Started it this morning and in all gears below about 2800 rpm it's got a huge juddery vibration, like it's missing a cylinder (at least one!) Very down on power and very slow. Above 3000 rpm it's smoother, but down on power in a massive way, I reckon on about 50% power. The orange engine management light on the dashboard is blinking on and off, quoting the manual - 'a problem with the engine management computer or exhaust/emissions systems'. Anyone had this? Thanks P
  8. Cheers guys for your help. I tried it 3 separate times so far this morning, same every time. Just rang the dealer, they didnt sound too concerned so its booked in in Thurs (unless I can find someone else with VAG diagnostic stuff in Newcastle) Out of interest its parked on the flat at the mo, but it was damn cold here last night, about -6. Cheers, will keep you updated P
  9. Hi all, Had my Octavia vRS 5 days now. Went out to start it this morning and when its started, the coolant light flashes on with the three loud beeps described in the manual. It then keeps flashing. Manual says check the coolant - It's red, not frozen, and up to the max line (when cool) Manual say check the fuse - No blown fuses in the fusebox I can find - Is there another fusebox under the bonnet? Manual says do not drive - take the car to the dealer. Anyone had anything like this? Cheers
  10. Charger should be refurbed ideally every 2 years or 60,000 miles ish, whichever comes sooner. A rebuild costs about £500 (www.g-werks.com) or a new charger around a grand(!) I've a Golf G60 sitting on the drive and its a great car, good fun on the track too. If its for a track car great, if it blows up on the track you haven't lost a lot....
  11. Hello all, New member, I was / am a VW person, own a mk2 Golf G60 which is getting a bit tired so tonight I took the keys for my new 02 plate Octavia vRS. I love it, just driven it from Northamptonshire to Newcastle and its loads of fun, everything a supercharged mk2 golf was and then some.... One question (for the moment).... ....what is the factory standard security kit on a vRS? Alarm / Immob? Cat 1/2 ? Or nothing at all? And have I read that its possible to hook an aftermarket Cat 1 Alarm up to the factory key/remote? Cheers guys Paul
