  1. Hi There I have a Fabia MK1 1.4TDi Estate, which is around 50 - 100kg heavier then the new one, plus the 70ish kg extra weight I am carrying (Fat Git Is I) so based on that you can appreciate the car has to work more. I also drive the car with abit of purpose, maily because I like to clear it's throat of carbon deposits and keep it running smootly. So this is the figure's for my car: - Urban - 52.3mpg Motorway - 65.3mpg Combined - 56.3mpg (Based on a average using Excel at 30% Motorway 70% Town driving) Most driving is 7.5 miles max (Work Run) so majority time running cold and I have to go up babylon hill outside Yeovil, which is a steep hill requiring some effort to go up it. I suspect the figure giving on that review was actually the 1.2 3 pot engine and the twit who wrote it got the figures all mixed up, seems the most logical reason for the figure in question. Hope this helps Q ADDED IN : - I use the fill tank use the fill tank and X miles / Litres x 4.54609 = X mpg method, not the trip computer
  2. or just ignore them, ppl hate being ignored Q
  3. Ok I understand what you are saying here, however correct me if I am wrong here, but when they calculate the torque outputs they are refering to the torque at the flywheel/ Final Drive or what ever it is called And then the Gearbox acts as a torque converter depending on size of Final Drive Wheel and Selected gear. Then the torque amount is then tranmitted to the drive wheels and depending on the size of the wheels will then dictate what gets transmitted to the ground.... please correct me if I am wrong, the whole reason of this post is to see if i understand things correctly Q (Dan)
  4. ok the second install ment of my question My understanding is a diesel will initally accelerate faster then a petrol equivilant but as the torque will peak out at a general rule of thumb around 2,000rpm - 2,200rpm that will force a driver to change up earlier due to the torque dropping off at that point, though you can continue to accelerate upto 3,500 per say before it come quite pointless to stay in that gear due to the drop in torque. But a petrol like a Vectra 1.8 like my mates has something like 125lbs/ft @ 5,400rpm, he will benefit from the pull from his torque band upto 5,400 and possibly still pull upto 6,000rpm, allowing him to stay in that gear far longer then a diesel would. However due to lower available torque at lower engine speed will propell him slower then the diesel would at that lower rev range. What I am trying to say there is diesel accelerate faster then a petrol, because a diesel has approx 80% more torque available then a petrol with similiar BHP's, but due to the fact the petrol can go to 5,400rpm before it runs out of torque 'Pulling Power' and therefore can ultimately out accelerate a diesel as he will require changing up sooner due to the torque dropping of erlier then the petrol equivilant. On that basis to make a diesel car better at accelerating and improving overall 0-60 time the trick would be to do what Toyota has done with the Yaris 1.4D-4D 89bhp car. As the torque Peaks at 2,000rpm and stays at I think at 140lbs/ft until 3,000rpm, which how I understand it will allow this car to accelerate far better due to the torque going to 3,000rpm and that is a reason it will go 0-60 in 10.5secs where my 1.4TDi furby with only 14bhp less but 4lbs/ft more torque will go 0-60 in 14secs due to the torque peaking out at 2,200rpm. Ok there are other considerations to take into account, Like gear ratio's (Another important thing to look at) Mass of car, wind co-efficent and the list goes on.... but my statement of the more torque available the more 'Power' available at drive wheels!! is correct. Therefore improving the amount of torque available and at a higher rev band will make sense. Or will it just be better to make a diesel revs upto 6,000rpm and that torque has little to no effect in the cars acceleration and is only there to provide the ability to lugg big weights around and has No effect to the acceleration capability like my mate seems to believe !! I look forwards to hearing what you guys think about this Quetzalcoatl PS Sorry for any spelling errors, I just have no energy at the moment :(
  5. It was 3 or 4 in the morning and I just came in from a 12 hour work day, normally I proof read before submitting, but was to tired too.... Also I shorten my name to Q from Quetzalcoatl a Mayan Demi god, some theories would suggest a person from the city of 'ATLANTIS' he is supposed to have been a person who was going around 'Civilising' humans. Supposed to have 'Magical' powers and all, not to unsimiliar to that of Jesus and other mythalogical characters that exsisted throught time. Which could get me on my boring oppinion that They were all the same person.... and this individual was either a Alien or just like in Stargate an 'Ancient' the first evolution of this form As it say in my signature 'Insanity is not an illness, it's a way of life' Q
  6. Known as industrial fallout All they had to do was actually wash of the rust as what is rusty is the particles of metal that have fell on the paintwork, insaurance claims sound a little silly to me :S It important to wash you car frequently if you park it near a factory that has a grinding department and extraction system or where the type of work produces alot of metalic dust and over a considerable time the rust will eat away your paintwork and then the insaurance claims are relevant I would also avoid parking close to a major road and the crap that gets kick up off the road and lands on your car is unbelievable, I learnt that when I was working for shell and parked my car close to the A303.... major dirt... one side of the car was dirty and the other was clean... Q
  7. Hello All I will be making a long statement to follow this post to describe how I percieve torque and it's effect on accleration, but for now I would like to make a basic statement as follows: - The more torque available will allow a car to accelerate fatser as toque defines how much power is tranmitted to the ground to propel a car forwards. basically stating torque is the most important thing to refer to when it comes to ability to accelerate!! Ok any responses to this vague (for now) question will be greatfully recieved Q
  8. agreed..... you took the letters right out of my keyboard
  9. I was thinking that on the trip home from work last night @ 2:30am I tend to change gear around 2,500 on the thing, but I am used to a older diesel (205 GRD) But I hear people giving the diesels alot more revs, when i am out on my daily excercise (Losing the fat at last) and was wondering If I should give my new TDi abit more revs then I do. The sales person told me that the car likes to get revved, but thought it was him being a boy racer as it were. Now i am thinking is it because modern diesels like to get revved these days..... So I post to get other peoples opinions Also the car feels abit sluggish until I get to 1800 rpm then it is better (I guess it is down to torque or turbo.... being a 1.4TDi I guess thats normal. What you guys think?? Q
  10. Ok a simple poll, how do you personally drive a diesel I look forwards to the results Q
  11. Remap, much more enjoyable that a game console Q

  14. Avon tyres are good tyres mate, i have had them on my PUG 205 GRD and my old Felly. They last quite a while and I found them to be quieter then most "Top" brands. However I still in the belief that Michelins are the quietest of the lot. I will say that the down side to 'Quiet' tyres are the grip seems a little less then loader tyres. My 1.4TDi revs at 900/950rpm on tick over, I was concerned with that when I test drove the car and I instantly asked if that was normal As with the Fuel gauge, I have noticed the same, I will say when your at 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 you can acuratly predict your MPG on those markers around town I get 120 per 1/4 tank and outta town I get 160miles per 1/4 tank. You can expect anywhere between 44mpg to 48mpg combined and upper 50's for outta town runs (Based on countless amounts of threads on that subject on this forum) As with the brakes I have no idea, but click search on the top bar in this forum and type in something like 'Fabia Brakes' and see whats come up As with servicing, get the old Owners/Service manual out and see what needs to be done at what intervals. Or ring the local dealer and ask for a full list of servicing requirements and get them to send it to you If they are good, I am sure they will do it (My Local Did) I hope my little insight helped Q
  15. ok you have the following engines: - 3.0i PETROL 0-62mph = 9.8s Top Speed = 127mph 4.4i PETROL 0-62mph = 7.7s Top Speed = 149mph 4.8i PETROL 0-62mph = 6.1s Top Speed = 153mph 3.0i DIESEL 0-62mph = 8.6s Top Speed = 130mph Skoda Fabia VRS 1.9TDi DIESDEL 0-62mph = 9.6s TOP SPEED = 126mph Most likely you would have lost mate... sorry. Q
  16. I concur with his solution, I also think it is a VW problem across the board as i have been looking and it seems common in VAG cars Q
  17. My 1.4TDi has this issue... I find giving it a little pump up on the hieght adjuster to your right tends to stop it though An un-qualified oppinion here... but I believe that as we sit in the seat the hieght lowers over time and it needs a little pump now and then to keep pressure in the gas cylinders.... my guess anyhow Q
  18. Yeovil is a lovely **** Town.... so no... I rather live on Risa Q
  19. Nothing is wrong with this, as my sig states... insanity is not an illness, it's a way of life Q

  23. When I passed my driving test and got my Pug 205 GRD I was constantly getting nightmares that I bought a dud car, I would be driving along and the car would seperate into halfs, and the rear would be gone and I would end up driving the front only...... dreams are wierd, the is a reason behind all dreams/nightmares but i can understand the panic that occurs because of it Q As long as it was not Burnthouse Lane area.... If it was then, I can fully understand
