  1. Before you do anything, check the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate from the body. It was not unusual for the wiring to break down and /or short because there was no slack in the wiring. It happened a few times on my 56 Roomster and was a pain in the wotsit until a proper repair was made by an Auto Electrician.
  2. The Skodas I have had and the present one do not relock after you have unlocked the vehicle and opened then closed a door (any door). If the car relocks then it is a fault. So. Unlock Open door Close door Car unlocked until manually locked again.
  3. I have had problems with the wiring breaking down where it enters the tailgate (56 reg 1.4TDi). They have been repaired twice, ironically the rear demister has not been affected at all, even though nothing else worked (rear wash/wipe etc.). Check for a 12 volt supply when switched on to see if there is any power. If there is powr then it could be a faulty earth. I think that might be doubtful as the heater uses a lot of power and should earth out OK.
  4. You are lucky, I have had several wires break where they enter the tailgate from the body. Mine is a 56 reg.
  5. The noise could be the bearing in the compressor on its way out. They seem to have a shorter life when only used occasionally. Also remember that if the weather is hot then the metal in the car is hot. That is why it is warm air for a short while. This was normal when I worked out in the Middle East.
  6. I never use social networking sites so we will soon find out if Skoda employees DO check this site. If they do, they can mention my name on twitter as proof. Who said 'don't hold your breath'. But when I think about it, maybe they depend on US for technical support. They might make it compulsory for their mechanics and technicians to develop their skills via this website.
  7. If you alter the sizes of bulbs (ie wattage) in vehicles with a Canbus system, it can give give problems. This can range from a red warning light for bulb failure to some vehicles going into 'limp' mode, Not sure exactly what with a Skoda.
  8. Hi Bob, I believe that you cannot just swop aerials on these Skodas. It is something to do with the Canbus system and the original aerial being supplied with a DC voltage supply. I read on one of my google searches that Skoda will not plug their diagnostics in if the aerial (and the radio) is not original. Whether that is true or not, I do not know.
  9. Thanks for the info Bob, as you said, 2 screws holding the unit in. I got the light fitting out and found the aerial fitting to be clean and dry. I managed to tighten it up a little but otherwise OK. I also googled 'Skoda aerial problems' and got a few hits with some good information. If I could go back to the point where my Dance radio failed, I would just buy another one. It is too much hassle to fit an aftermarket radio on any Skoda model. Just for information, I bought the aerial adaptor for the new radio (PC5-136) but also got one supplied in the fascia adaptor kit from the Skoda dealer. I found that the one in the Skoda kit is inferior to the aftermarket one. Barely got any FM stations with it. The quality is still poor so I have sorted out a variety of CD's to play instead. Just as a point of interest, nobody from Skoda UK must read the posts on this website. Nothing will ever improve without customer feedback because sooner or later, you have no customers.
  10. Hi bob, I have already asked in another thread about removing the internal light fitting. I had a try but it will not budge and I am worried that I will break something.
  11. Can anyone tell me how you get the internal light module out of the headlining please. It is a 56 reg (2006) model. I want to check out the condition of the radio aerial fixing. I cannot see any screws but do not want to force it and damage it. Thanks in advance.
  12. Just to add that I have installed the radio correctly but still have a problem with a weak signal from the aerial. This is just another irritating problem that will mean no more Roomsters for me.
  13. Double declutching makes the gear change easier (and quieter). I did this for a while but changed the gearbox oil and get no problems at all now. It is well worth doing.
  14. Thanks for the info but I now have the radio in and working (not very well at the moment though). i just got the fascia unit from the local Skoda dealer and the 2 adaptors from a local car audio shop. The fascia was £34 and the 2 adaptors £15. I am not really an ebay man plus I could not get enough information from the websites I visited. It is donkeys years since I messed about with a car radio and they were much simpler then. I am not picking up all the local radio stations and the reception comes and goes. It is probably something I have done and I will have to check it. It is not a big deal as we don't listen to the radio much but tend to stick a disc in. Thanks to all who helped me.
  15. I have finally got round to buying a new radio. I have a question to ask and possibly some useful information for anyone else changing their radio. First of all I bought a Sony CDX-GT26 from Halfords. It was offered at £49.99, reduced from £119.99. The Halfords chap ran my reg. number through the computer and said I also needed the following: A PC2-75-4 harness adaptor (fair enough). A PC5-136 aerial adaptor. He said that this particular bit of kit was necessary otherwise I would not be able to pick up many radio stations without it. Is he right and is it necessary? I thought I would just need an adaptor from the coax to the new radio, or just put a new plug on the coax. I also checked out nexxia.co.uk for the piece to fill in the hole in the dash left by the half a breeze block, sorry, double din Dance radio. The strange thing is they sell 2 units, both identical (they tell you that). One is CT24SK05 at £10.99, the other is FP-20-03 at £14.50. I would appreciate any comments from members who have changed the radio on a 56 reg (or earlier) Roomie. Thanks, Wilbur.
