  1. Thanks for that Brad. Will they still replace them 'after the fact' though? Car is a 2011 model. Have been looking at the R8 red coils last night. Greek, Thanks for the info. Will the difference in resistance have an effect on the electronics at all though?
  2. Had the same problem middle of last year. Dash lit up and ran like a tractor! On recovery to skoda, ignition coil had gone. This Saturday the same thing happened again! Again, ignition coil duff....not one but two! Is this a 'known' problem with Octy coils?
  3. Thanks FriendlyFire!! Excellent article. Have no problems in undertaking the re-wiring - just couldn't get at the little buggers!!
  4. I'm installing towbar wiring in a VRS Estate (June 2011). I need to remove the fuse box in the 'end' of the dashboard adjacent to the steering wheel in order to connect up the towbar wires, etc. Despite my best efforts I can't figure out how to remove the fusebox to gain sufficient space/access to the rear of it. I still haven't got ElsaWin to work yet so I have no access to a technical manual. Could somebody be kind enough to email me pdf's of the relevant pages in order that I may remove the fusebox, etc.? Whilst on the subject of 'removing' bits, I'm also fitting seat covers to the front seats. Again, no technical manual and I need to remove the plastic 'pockets'/trim on the outer side of the seats in order that I can fit them. Any helpful advice greatly received. Thanks in advance.
  5. Have recently emailed Haynes enquiring as to whether they have any timescale for the production of a manual to cover petrol versions and received the following reply:- Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding a Service and Repair Manual for your vehicle. Unfortunately, we do not produce a Manual for this particular model and have no plans to do so within the next 12-18 months. However, all of our customer requests are recorded and used in the decision making process of future Manual publications/updates. You could try contacting your local dealer to see if he can be of assistance or looking on the internet at any owners forums. I am sorry for any inconvenience. As I stated previously, perhaps us petrol owners ought to email them 'en-masse' and perhaps they might reconsider.
  6. mikeholroy, Some versions of 64 bit win 7 does not allow use of virtual xp. As stated previously have tried 3 computers, various configurations, administrator, safe mode, etc. Not wasting anymore time. Give me a 'paper' manual any time!!
  7. Perhaps all of us petrol owners ought to get together and email Haynes 'en-masse'! Have tried loading ElsaWin onto 3 computers running XP to Windows 7 without success! :( Tried everything! Gave up!
  8. Hi all! Complete newbie to Skodas here but am thoroughly enjoying my race blue 2011 Octavia 2.0FSI DSG VRS Estate. Traded in my 9 year old Merc C270 CDI, which I was sad to see go as it was a lovely, reliable, sedate, quiet and cheap (contrary to popular belief!) car. Have been well impressed with the level of refinement in the Skoda and was glad the salesman told me to try out sports mode on my own i.e. without the wife!! Glad I also got the bi-xenon headlamps, bluetooth phone, etc. Can't really fault it to date. Not as quiet or sedate as the Merc but a lot of fun! Fitting a Westphalia towbar soon (self-fitting) but will get electrics installed by an independent (not my strong point). Have just got a spare wheel for it (instead of the squirty rubber solution!) and was impressed that it is not a 'space-saver' wheel - although it still has the 'idiot' stickers on it!! (don't exceed 50mph, etc). Hopefully you'll be as impressed as I have been!
