I saw that, it was a green mk2 vrs I think. The super grippy track surface was what caused the heat build up In the tyre and ultimately caused the sled destruction of the tyre

I would imagine in these times of cuts they will be using a base diesel model. Plod near me are just converting to Hyundai i30 estates.

Thanks for the replies. Will discuss it with him on Monday when in back in the office. I was surprised when he rang me. I thought about whether he might have hit some oil or something on the approach to a bend which unsettled the car. The fact he said it was predictable as it was under steering towards the barrier may be the ESP doing its 'magic.' Cheers.

i got a phone call the other day and thought that i had better put this to the board. A colleague was out in a fabia II vrs and travelling at high speed on a test track. apparently, as he approached a sweeping left hander, he got the impression that he had experienced a blow out or similar. the car drifted quite violently to the right, he said it was stable in so much that he could see exactly where he was about to hit the crash barrier. he managed to gather it all in and once his pulse had almost returned to normal he gave me a call. He checked the tyres and found no visual defects etc, and when he checked the tyre pressures, he noticed that the front offside was 3 psi lower than the rest. He wondered if i had experienced anything similar. I was unable to answer him as i had literally done 938 miles in it, to run it in, before entrusting him with the keys. I have not been able to get near it since. So, my questions are - Are these cars known to be unstable at the upper end of the speed range? Are they known to be sensitive to relatively small differences in PSI? Are they sensitive to cross winds Does anyone have suggestions? The car is completely stock with about 1500 miles on it, and it was on a dry day. The driver is very competent and experienced. Would love to hear your comments and/or experiences. Thanks

Sledgehammer is a bit extreme, you dont want to knock the car off the jack. Yes, tap it and use the wood to protect ur wheel (it also spreads the impact) what's 'probably' happened is that all the mud/water/brake dust/etc has just 'glued' the wheel on. It's quite normal if the wheel has not been off for some time.

Not like for like really but I'm moving from A tavia tsi into a fab vrs. It's all about the dsg!

Do you mean that you cannot have the following? Mdi cable with USB cable, connecting the white cable to your iPod? My car came with the iPod one which is great, but I also treated myself to an Ebay one for an old hard drive I had lying about. So I'm guessing I need to keep both in the car. I've not tried the USB one yet.

Stu, when you are off the throttle, the engine cuts off fuel, ie it's using none. Go to your instant mpg Dial and you will see mpg go up and up then ---mpg. It's the inertia in the engine already that keeps it going, not 4 x the fuel. In neutral, the engine is being driven by burning fuel, not the inertia, hence greater fuel consumption in neutral? That's how I understand it.

Personally I would still insist on it going to Skoda. It's your choice at the end of the day, you are the customer. Glad it's moving along nicely for you.

I'm still sceptical on this whole neutral thing. Someone explained it to me that in modern cars, when you lift off, the fuel supply is cut off. When in neutral, fuel is still being supplied to the engine to keep it ticking over, therefore using more fuel. Personally I dont do the neutral thing, but each to their own.

Shark. I fully agree with your above points, and actually nearly always drive with headlights on already. I'm just not a fan of them being down there in the fog light location. I prefer the 'understated' look and part of that is to blend in with others as opposed to standing out. It's a bit harsh to call people flashing you idiots, it's skoda departing from the norm by putting the side lights down there. There are enough of the other idiots on the road to vent my spleen on Safety first, always.
