  1. Actually I just noticed its not quite holding the water. Back to square one :( I'm gonna have to get some silicone or something on there
  2. Well its been a pain so far (my hands are cold) but finally made a start and got the pipes in place. Filled with water and there wasn't a good enough seal so tightened the bolt up some more and the pipes are holding water. Now to attach the rest of the system and see if it works under pressure. Wish me luck
  3. I do miss my 1994 Audi 80 avant road sofa. It was full of problems but took all the abuse I threw at it and was a bargain at £600
  4. I've been looking into changing my clutch and dmf and found this; http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/sachs-1-9-tdi-6-speed-02m-dual-mass-flywheel-and-clutch-kit.html Now my question is, will this be oem? If not is it gonna be cheap and fail on me after a short period of time? I only ask because the part numbers on darkside's website don't line up with the part numbers on Vag-Cat, but I know the standard clutch is made by Sachs?!? 5. I haven't got the know how to swap out engine and gearbox, never really done more than change the oil myself. Luckily now I'm commuting by bike so I'm thinking just keep it parked up and fix what I can when I can. Seeing a I'm not doin such high mileage anymore I'm thinking of getting a petrol (for the first time)
  6. So I've been putting off doing the heater matrix pipes for a months now, and I've had a knocking noise develop on idle which I'm pretty sure is the DMF. Now my clutch has started slipping (again, although I never actually replaced it the first time). The question is, do I flog the vRS and buy something new or do I fork out a load of money to fix the clutch and DMF? Bare in mind it's done 148K miles...
  7. I made this mistake myself about a year and a half ago. Next service I paid a garage to retro the sump and service it for me. Now I have to use a larger plug and washer :/
  8. Might sound obvious, but are your tyres all at the correct pressure?
  9. I was doing 400 miles a week commuting in mine for about 20 months (and I'm on fk coil overs) plus I would drive from gloucester to London/Southampton and back every couple of weeks or so. Not long before I stopped I trapped a nerve in my back and I swear doing all those miles with such cheap seats hasn't helped. I would recommend a cushion/new seats. And whatever you do don't get adjustable coilovers, you will destroy the comfort!
  10. I'm gonna have to watch this thread as I need to do this soon. I've been running water without antifreeze/coolant for the past 4 months and someone pointed out to me the other day I might get limescale build up :|
  11. If £200 is a lot then I paid far too much for my refurb (£300+) :|
  12. Something is probably shorting somewhere if it goes as soon as you plug it. What else uses thy fuse?
  13. As an advocate for the spare wheel I've just met a man on my drunken walk home who made the mistake of not spec'ing one on his Astra. He's now waiting for the AA as his kit hasn't resulted in an inflated useable tyre. Live an learn eh?
  14. Afraid I don't know the part number, but from what a mechanic told me; vw door locks break quite often and the plastic casing has to be smashed open to unlock the door. I got one from a scrapyard and stripped the door down myself and left the rest to a mechanic
  15. While I still haven't actually fixed this, I hope this helps http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/308308-heater-matrix/?hl=%2Baluminium+%2Bpipes#entry3690590
  16. Parrot kit and wind deflectors have both been good simple mods for me. I've also got led plate lights and I'm thinking of fitting LED sift lights and interior lights. Also I need silver indicator bulbs
  17. When I took my 2003 fabia vRS up to 2000rpm on a private runway the speedo said 76mph. That's with the older longer ratio box, so by my calculation to drive at 130mph, my engine would be running a about 3.4k rpm. I tested it on said runway and sure enough... I was right
  18. I'm also hoping to sort my vRS spoiler out. I'm thinking I'll remove it and give it a respray if it's so easy to take off and put it back on.
  19. Changed the oil with help from cdt123. I also changed the air filter and its runnin good. When putting the car back down after doing the oil change though this happened; Don't worry, it's actually not too noticeable once you remove the jack stand
  20. I'd say if you're worried, just take out the rear seat bases and fold down the backs. Then you'll have a huge flat loading space. I got my 32 inch in the back of a 206 estate a few years ago lying it down flat, without the back seats down. Granted its a big boot in the 206 estate but the fabia with the seats down flat is bigger in the back.
  21. I have reason to believe you gotta take the wheel off and pull the plastic out the wheel arch to get at that pipe. Good Luck!
  22. I had a brake servo vacuum hose replaced recently, when my car dumped it's coolant everywhere and the nice RAC man bypasse my heater and filled the system back up I started it with the bonnet open and he pointed out a hissing noise. Wasn't all that loud though...
  23. I got the pipes, o-rings and brackets etc for £60 all in from TPS about 3 weeks ago. Just need to fit now... Seems to be a common problem all of a sudden
  24. Sounds like washer fluid to me. Do all your washer jets work? My rear on has become disconnected 3 times in two years and that usually results in washer fluid on the road underneath the car (I wash the soot off the rear window quite often)
  25. I tried TPS and got the pipes, bracket, nut, seals and 5 litres of antifreeze for about £70. Antifreeze was £10, definitely going to TPS for stuff from now on. Hopefully I can have a crack at it tomorrow
