  1. My Yeti's got it's mojo back... well, that is to say its back to being a 4wd. It's official. The Haldex pump had failed. Report by Skoda workshop reads: "Carried out road test found wheels spinning, checked codes, found Haldex clutch pump had open circuit, Carried out test plan, fault cleared, checked wiring and voltages - unable to fault. Road tested fault still present. Ran test plan and found fault with pump - requires parts. Removed and replaced Haldex pump as required, cleared a LL fault codes and road tested , All OK" Happy days for me, the Bryan Byrt Skoda guys were great and all done under warranty. Good to know being here almost at the last Skoda "outpost" (Australia) a funny little car from Eastern Europe can be fixed so quickly.
  2. Hi all, my 2012 Yeti seems to have forgotten its a 4WD. Over the past few weeks it has started behaving more like a FWD... You know... torque steer, front wheels slipping on take-off. But worst of all, a couple of loud bangs if you floor it in 1st or 2nd (its a DSG). The sound was so bad I though it had jumped out of gear, got back in gear and jumped out again! As soon as you back off eveything is fine.. drive it non aggressively its fine. I rang Skoda and they were skeptical. However once I took it to the workshop and they drove it, and spent a lot of time looking for computer somethings.... they confirmed it had a problem. Phew! They said it was the Haldex unit. Apparently, its very rare, and only a few here in Australia have had this problem. Surprisingly they have a "fix kit" for it here in Australia so hopefully all will be good. Anyone else heard of this problem?
  3. Duh.. I missed the obvious.. bigger fuel tank! Sorry Guys.. that explains the difference however next time I go on a trip to Sydney i'll take a pic of range to next fill. Maybe its a traffic thing.. we only have to dodge a few Kangaroo's and trucks down here.. not the congestion of the M1
  4. Fuel economy is (suprisingly) better on my later model 2.0 Diesel compared to the 1.2 tsi. Both are DSG's. My last fill up on a return trip Sydney /Brisbane showed 1050km range. THe 1.2 on the same trip only ever showed a best of 860km range. I would have thought the lighter 1.2 with a 7 speed would have been a clear winner over the heavier 4x4 with only a 6 speed.
  5. Hey Norwich Ricky.. I once bought a dud Camry ... It had issues never seen on a Camry before. Final solution was a wrongly machined front upright hub.. It allowed the inner wheel bearing to "float" around. It was a long process to find. Toyota changed the CV - drive shaft, and all the suspension rubbers before they eventually got rid of the clicking noise when doing a U turn. Then the aircon failed and that was after a whining noise that was traced to a lack of oil in the diff or gearbox after a Toyota service. I've never bought another Toyota again but I have two Yeti's and both have 0 defects in the first 12 months of purchase. There's something reassuring about the Yeti so I am considering it as a long term keeper.. Long after warranty runs out. (Did'nt have quite the same confidence to "go it alone" with my Landrover F2 even though we loved it)) The moral of the story is considering there are about 15 million happy Camry owners out there I'm probably being a bit narrow minded..
  6. No contest.. I've had both. I don't know how you can compare the 2wd to the 4wd... It would be like trying to convince a landrover owner they don't really need 4wd. My 1.2tsi was a huge let down after selling my F2. We tried to be practical and mentally convinced ourselves we did'nt need to spend the extra bucks for a 4wd. The 1.2 was fun, great cornering ability and a much better car around town than the F2... Until it rained or got onto wet grass.. or accelerating over undulating ground. We took a financial dive and changed over to the 4wd ( I'd rather say AWD) and could'nt be happier. The 2wd was'nt bad.. But at the end of the day... It was just a front wheel drive with a quirky boxy body that made it kind of unique and a happy drive. It can't go more places than a corolla or a megane, or most other FWD cars... So why pay more. ( in this country) However, get the 4wd and its a whole different bang for your buck. We tried them all... Subaru, BMW, Koleos, Xtrail etc.. There's just something about the 4wd that you appreciate every time you get in and drive.. And we're not talking off road.
  7. 1.2 with the Auto?.. MY wife could'nt live with it so we upgraded to the Diesel 2.0 DSG. ( mind you, her previous drive was a F2 Auto) The 1.2 with DSG is a great fun sporty drive.. BUT.. pulling out from a side street into busy traffic was a hit and miss affair. Especially on wet days. She's a good driver but justj could'nt consistently get it right so it was either at grand prix start or bogged down... even taking off on hills. There's a very narrow band of getting it just right with the DSG and a small petrol motor. If you're not into the cut and thrust of city driving the 1.2 DSG is probably fine.. and once off the mark its great. So be sure to drive a petrol DSG first and take special notice of takeoff... And yes, I loved the 1.2 with the manual box..
  8. I upgraded my Yeti 1.2 to the 2lt 4x4. First noticable difference (other than grunt) was the doors dont seem to shut as tight and the door rubbers squeek when the car is crossing over our driveway at an angle. Were the robots having a lazy day and reduced the number of welds or is it simply lack of door adjustment?
  9. Damm! First couple of times I thought my wife was showing signs of affection.. she was just looking at the Clock.
  10. My wife is always complaining (from the passenger side) the clock on the drivers info panel is almost impossible to see. i'm suprised the central display that does phone, climate , radio etc has no clock function. Have looked thru the booklets and asked a not interested Skoda person.. Anyone found a clock?
  11. Hi All, onto my 2nd Yeti. My first one a 1.2tsi was really quiet and seemed structurally very rigid with very little wind noise or flexing of the cabin. When I purchased my 2nd one (2.0 tdi 4wd) I was immediately surprised by the amount of wind noise, cabin noise and lots of door rubber squeaking when I diagonally cross onto a driveway. Its almost like its got half the welds or thinner steel compared to the first. I know this sound ridiculous but even my non tech wife commented on the difference. Anyone else out there noticed flexing/door rubber squeaking? I know Diesels are noisier than petrol, the tyres are skinnier and a lower profile but this does'nt explain the flexing noises.

  13. Hi folks, Anyone deciding to swap their Yeti for a new one in the New Year. Looking for second hand one so let me know if you are selling Cheers Oli Hi Oli, you just missed out on my 1.2 Yeti.. sold it 3 weeks ago but Australia was a bit to far for delivery anyway. For what its worth replaced it with another Yeti. This time Diesel DSG. Just cant find any other car that equals the Yeti for value, comfort and performance. Make sure you have a chance to compare the two different models. The 1.2 is brilliant as a manual but I feel needs the bigger CC's petrol or Diesel for DSG.
  14. Interesting - I don't have the problem with my 1.2 DSG but in situations where a quick pull away is necessary I use S mode anyway. I'm not sure it does much to the actual performance but it sure feels/sounds better with no hint of hunting for the right gear. Thanks for the input Fred.. my 1.2 never seemed quiet right. At 60kph it would already be in 7th gear and then had a big lag until it found the right gear when a hill came up or I had to accelerate. It had a turbo seal modification they said was a factory upgrade and felt better but by then I had already ordered the Td. And yes, Sport mode did help but it was then too revy.. Just could'nt get a relaxed drive but still loved the car enough to get it as a diesel.
  15. posted 6th May 2012 Having just had 3 magnificent years of FL2 diesel driving we were faced with what to buy with less outlay... After testing a ridiculous amount of cars we kept coming back to the Yeti as being the only one "close" to the FL2's atributes. Now, two months on, having gone from the luxury of the FL2 down to a base 1.2 Yeti we no longer need counciling but do miss our F2. 9 months of Yeti ownership has come to an end... Just could'nt cope with the 1.2 and DSG marriage. Pulling out into trafic was alway a hit or miss affair.. Very hard to get it just right.. seemed to be all or nothing with the power band. ( by comparrison drove a manual with the 1.2 and it was brilliant ) So, what did we buy... After missing the FL2's beautiful power delivery we went and got a... DIESEL Yeti. What a difference, the DSG/Diesel combo is brilliant. Economy is much better than the F2 and around town a better drive. I'm sure the F2 is better in the rough stuff - has anyone seen a F2 / Yeti off road comparison?
