  1. They sort of said they are so busy, if I can sort the parts, they'll fit me in. Plus, they seemed to think it would be cheaper!
  2. Hi All, I've been told by my local garage I need: 4 x spark plugs 4 x coil packs (assuming they are the things that the spark plugs go into?) 2 x injectors + seals I'm struggling to work out which exact parts I need - can anyone help please? Many thanks
  3. Hi all, I was driving my 2014 Octy 1.2 petrol yesterday and the emissions control light started flashing for about 10 seconds, then the EPC light came on. Then I lost some acceleration and gradually got slower until I pull in off the motorway at the next junction. By the time it was safe to stop there was a sort of chemical smell in the car and there was some blue smoke coming out the rear. Once I turned the engine off it won't restart. Oil and coolant levels seem ok and the engine didn't overheat. The only symptom before hand was that a few days ago the car momentarily felt a tiny bit juddery like the engine was mis-firing, but only lasted a few seconds. Any idea what this might be and what it might cost to repair? 😭.
  4. If you mean the hold-down-unlock-all-windows-down thing, then yes!
  5. Hi all, A while back the switch stopped working - it won't allow you to wind the window down (but it sounds like it still works for winding the window up as it makes a noise) How can I repair/replace the switch? Many thanks, Jim
  6. HI All, My Octavia is in need of a good clean and it has some pretty stubborn black flecks that look like mould, particularly on the bonnet. What would you recommend from Halfords (all that's local to me) to try and remove and clean? There is also so green gunk when you open the doors. I don't want/have a pressure washer and don't want to spend a fortune on a foam sprayer!
  7. Can you guys tell me if these are likely to be for the hatch or the estate? Seen some used rails online
  8. Hey all, I have a 2016 Octavia III hatch. I want to take some bikes on holiday and as I don't wish to get a tow bar fitted, it looks like they've got to go on the roof. Which brand/type look/fit the best? Thanks J
  9. No, as it's there when you rev from idle (without clutch being depressed)
  10. It's definitely more of a rattle than a ticking
  11. Hi everyone, Just bought a 2014 1.2 TSI OCTY. Have a rattle that is noticeable revving from idle, and in lower gears. Sounds like a tinny, metallic, gear-y, grind-y sound/rattle. Any idea what this could be? Thanks, J Recording attached! 2.mp3
  12. Hi everyone, I've just bought a Skoda Octavia Mk 3 1.2 TSI. Car has done 20k miles. Skoda dealer has been less than honest about a number of things, and car was not as thoroughly prepared and checked over as promised. Consequently I want to make sure that I get anything sorted during my 3 month warranty that may come up. I have very sensitive ears, but there are a few noises which I wanted to check out: 1) Deep throbbing/purring at idle (hear 1.mp3), not in time with engine ticking over 2) Tinny rattle (possibly gear related) heard when revving from idle and when driving in lower gears (hear 2.mp3) 3) Noise/whine at around 50mph - does this engine make a noise around this speed? (although may possibly still be there when clutch depressed/engine not revving high) Thanks guys. I will take it back to the garage soon, but I wanted to go armed with some idea of what the noises might be. J 2.mp3 1.mp3
  13. Hi everyone, My current MK2 Octavia 1.9 TDI is on its last legs and I need to get a newer car. I've been looking at MK3 Octavias but they are a little over my budget. My main attraction to both the MK3 Octavia and the Rapid is the boot space. I have test driven both of them and preferred the Octavia, but might have to compromise and get a Rapid instead. But I've read lots of reviews with people saying that long term they are not so nice to drive. How many of you guys made the move from MK2 Octavia to Rapid and how is it going? Thanks, Jim
  14. Thanks everyone for your opinions on this. I'm still somewhat torn, but most people on here have suggested the petrol. As they still make diesels (in huge numbers) I'm maybe being taken in by the media denigration of them too much perhaps. There are so many diesels on the road still that I can't see any dramatic change in the next say 3-4 years (how long I would probably want the car for) that will mean taxes going up massively or anything, but who knows what the next government might do. I like the idea that the diesel will offer better MPG, particularly if I end up driving more miles. As I said, I'm a really careful driver so if anyone is going to get maximum MPG on either fuels it will be me!
  15. Hi guys, My old MK2 is nearing the scrapheap and it's time to upgrade to a MK3! My current MK2 has the old 1.9 TDI. I'm currently torn between the diesel 1.6 and the petrol 1.2 (105 most likely). I'm a little put off by the current negativity towards diesels (which I imagine will only get worse), and worry that a £9000 MK3 may depreciate quicker if it's a diesel. Here's what I do: around 15k per annum. 50/50 between motor ways & start stop 40 MPH max rush hour traffic. Am I likely to receive a similar MPG with each of the engines I've mentioned? I drive like a granddad and stick to speed limits. What are people's experiences with the two engines and which option would you suggest I go for? Thanks, J
