got it sorted, it was the fuse above the battery. never seen a strip fuse before, i has just checked the normal ones. £3.50 from vw dealer fixed it! thanks anyway

i have the 54bhp one, love it very nippy, i get 40 to 43 mpg, just drive it steady. Yes rear doors leak on mine, forget the dealer fix and do it yourself. Takes about 1 hour with tiger seal around bottom of shiny inner plate. (takes about 1 hour to take linings off and fix) Although 1 side hasnt fixed, i will have another go.) Just make sure the engine doesnt sound like its 'tapping' too much at idle as heads/valves can be a problem. Best advice is once you get it, dont use supermarket fuel and change the oil regularly. (my economy improved with a full filter and oil change, plus a fuel filter change, which is under the car near the rear) All in all, great and cheap to run and insure, sometimes basic can offer the most fun!

abs on 2002 fabia 1.2 54bhp
Bombbombskoda replied to Bombbombskoda's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
All fuses fine, still no fix, will have to go to garage -
Just fixed mine, very easy took less than one hour for both doors. Followed the earlier link instructions from the start of this stream. I didnt use the expensive skoda kit, just a tube of tiger seal from Bullseye car parts.

hi, my fab had this work done before i bought it. Yes mine is a little lumpy at first and feels like a slight misfire but gets better when warmed up, or if i give it a good rev. I have been told this engine is inherently lumpy as it is a 3 cylinder and out of balance slightly. After my first full service my MPG has settled to about 41-43 mpg (mixed driving city and gentle motorway. It improved greatly after an oil, fuel and air filter change, which hadnt been done on the previous owner sevice. Hope this helps, I think compared to new cars of its size, with small petrol engines this economy is comparable and quite good. Reading car mags has given me the impression that manufacturers claims and what the testers really get in day to day driving is very different. (my fab is same engine as yours, 03 reg, 92500 miles)

fabia mk1 economy/lumpy engine query
Bombbombskoda replied to Bombbombskoda's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
thanks everyone for the replies, certainly sounds like the petrol quality problem could be an issue, I will look at switching - just hope the engine isnt already buggered again! I have been adding fuel additive so hopefully its helped, although i think its just an injector cleaner. To Freedom: yes I will sort out the picture asap, cheers. Full service next week so I hope the oil and filter change will help. -
fabia mk1 economy/lumpy engine query
Bombbombskoda replied to Bombbombskoda's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I was told it was serviced 8 months ago ( i bought it two months ago) but the state of the air filter showed it may not have been seviced properly, so maybe the oil wasnt changed either. So i will be servicing it fully in the next two months or asap. Cant see any signs of oil burning. Dont know about fuel type, i will check this as i normally fill up at morrisons. Cheers -
fabia mk1 economy/lumpy engine query
Bombbombskoda replied to Bombbombskoda's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Thanks, mine has had a rebuild and new valves too, so thanks for the advice on that. Ecomomy still a worry though, but i have just changed the air filter which was filthy, and the engine cover/filter holder wasnt fitted properly (nor sealed correctly on the engine air intake) does anybody know if this would effect economy? Other than this, I hope an oil/filter change will help? -
Hi, just bought a 2003 fabia 1.2 classic 54 bhp. Lovely car but a few concerns. Driving like a saint at a steady 55 mph on the motorway mixed with a bit of town and local driving but I can't top 40mpg, is this the best I can get?I had expected 45 to 50 mpg. Also the engine sometimes feels lumpy whilst idling, not exactly missing but just hesitant and out of balance? Is this normal as its 3 cylinder, Any help much appreciated.
