  1. A local garage took it out for a spin and couldnt fault it. So I hope to drive back to Bristol Friday, and its booked in to a Bristol garage on 24th for a thorough checkover. Driving around today and no nasty surprises.
  2. The clutch feels no different now to all the 5 years that I have owned the car. How does that explain the intermittency? Most of the time the car drives fine. Could it be something out of kilter with the gear change linkage? Keith
  3. Should have said its six speed manual transmission, petrol engine.
  4. Worrying symptoms randomly occuring when attempting to change gear. Sometimes it feels like it wont come out of gear, it seems jammed. After a struggle it relents, so I have been able to complete my journey. Other times when changing up it makes horrible grinding noises as I attempt to pass the neutral position. On another occasion I was trying to check I was in neutral by rocking gear knob left/right as you do, but it seemed very stiff and felt most odd. This is intermittent, I can drive miles without noticing anything wrong, the car drives just fine with no odd gearbox noises. I have had the car 5 years, now at 48k miles. Anyone know what the trouble likely is? I am currently on hols in Cornwall and hoping to get home before I get it checked over ☹️
  5. Got the car back, all fixed. 😃 After the new Lambda sensor was fitted, the emissions were still failing. Then some software updates were applied and emissions were all good. So maybe I have been driving around since the last mot with problems that were masked. Thankfully the catalytic converter was not affected by all this.
  6. Nothing showing on the dash before it went in, thats all I can say for sure. Its a small independent garage looking at it, now waiting for new lambda sensor. Ive had the car 4 years, full service history, drives like a dream, very responsive to throttle. Cam belt done last year and before that had an issue with the waste gate actuator pivot seized. Found info on here about that and got it replaced / greased up. Will know more tomorrow when the new lambda sensor is fitted. New plugs fitted as part of the service which was due as well.
  7. The local garage I just took my car to for mot tell me that its failed Fast Idle Test CO reading way over the top @46k miles, also the Lamda sensor not showing any output. As this would normally show up as a fault (none showing on dash), they asked me has the software been tweaked to mask the lamda sensor fault. As far as I know the answer to that is no. The history behind this is that my previous mot at another garage initially showed the same fault, but I ended up with a pass and all emission shown ok. Dont know how they got from fail to pass. It all sounds dodgy to the suspicious mind. My question is, is it possible to mask out a lamda fault in this way? The garage where the car is now are now offering to reflash the software to std spec and fit a new lamda sensor hoping to get a pass, but say that the cat. might be in trouble due to running around rich The garage seem honest enough. Just wondered if what they are saying sounds reasonable? Worried🥺
  8. Just collected my car having had the actuator replaced, and linkage greased up as per fabdavrav post (thanks for that). Running really well, cost just under £300
  9. So, if the actuator is replaced, does that come with a new linkage part, or does the repair include somehow fixing the seized bit?? Also my engine code starts CHPA. Is that a variant of EA211? I am confused by these codes. I have a printout of the "how to solve" guide.
  10. Taken it just now to another independent who are a bit more tech savvy. Straight away they diagnosed an actuator fault and quote me 400 tops to fix, depending whether the turbo has to come off to allow fitting. So it's booked in next week
  11. Well, my local garage is saying I need a new turbo. When I protested saying its only done 32k, they suggested running a turbo cleaner through. I am not convinced they really have diagnosed the fault. Anyway I am about to try some Revive cleaner (the petrol variant) as its a lot cheaper than £1500. Anyone tried it?
  12. So, assuming it is a problem with the Wastegate, either the Wastgate itself is gunged up and sticking, or the actuator is failing to operate it. Hopefully a competent mechanic could diagnose which bit is causing the problem?
  13. Well thanks guys. never heard of a Wastegate but I have now. Its going to a local independent garage as soon as I can arrange it.
  14. My 2013 Octavia Mk3 1.4TSI @32k miles is intermittently showing the EPC warning and going into limp mode. If I stop / start the engine the EPC is cleared and car drives fine for say 5 to 10 mins., then the warning re appears. The code reader I have (AD410) shows P00AF with the description Turbocharger / Supercharger boost control A module performance. I am hoping its not the turbo itself, could it just be the boost solenoid? I plan to take the vehicle in to my nearest independent asap but wanted to get some idea of likely causes before I go. Ta
  15. Cars just been fixed. There was some gunge in the vacuum pipe
  16. My 2005 Mk2 Octavia 1.6 FSI recently showed the engine warning light. The car runs fine. The local independant garage I use diagnosed the culprit to be the egr valve code P0401. The valve was replaced and all fine for two days, then the same fault came up. The garage says it will fix it but having just spent £350 on the egr job I dont want to spend much more! Anyone any ideas what this might be? I havent taken the car back yet.
  17. Hi, Anyone know where I can get a rear nearside caliper carrier for my 2005 Octavia 1.6 FSI? I am in the N Bristol area. Skoda have quoted me £63.75 which seems a bit steep....
  18. ok so pagid it is... My service schedule booklet quotes BLF if thats any help Looking at Euro Car Parts for Pagid disks shows two front disk part numbers for my model, both quoting BLF: 104441238 described as 22/25mm, and 104441228 described as 19/22mm. Looks like they are quoting the min/max thickness of the disk? So how do I determine the correct part number to fit without knowing how thick my disks should be? Similar problems also on selection of rear disks.
  19. Hi Re Octavia Mk2 1.6 FSI Sep05 reg At my last sevice I was advised that my disks & pads need changing all round. I have just been quoted £391 for the job at a local Skoda agent, so was thinking of doing it myself. Can anyone recommend a supplier? I have seen some cheap prices but am concerned about quality. Also I have been advised I need a windback tool for the rears - I have seen a standard draper tool at £15 anyone know if it would be ok? Just thought I check these things out before making a mess of things!
  20. Hi My repeater on driver side has just failed MOT and I am trying to get the mirror casing off to see if I can fix/ replace whats needed. Not had much luck so far - when you say press lower front, I take it you mean the edge just at the bottom of the glass?? I have tugged away at it but the housing just wont come away. Getting desperate as Skoda have quoted me
