  1. Thanks for your replies. Never really had any issues with my previous cars, so I am just a bit frustrated by these intermittent problems. I guess quality control with Skoda just isn't quite as good, though I guess that is reflected in the cost of ownership. (for interests sakes, previous cars were AudiA4, Lexus RX300, Navara Adventura, BMW 320d)
  2. Hello again all. Been a while since I was last here. I've had my car almost 12 months now, covering less than 10k miles from new! It is still a good car, and I like the practicalities of having something so roomy, particularly as a 6'5" driver. However, a couple of things are annoying me and I wondered if anyone else has a similar experience. When running from a cold start...not freezing temperatures BTW - this morning it was 18 degrees when I left for the school run - I find that the engine sounds awful. A lot like a transit van. This suprises me as it is a modern car with an efficient engine. I had always assumed diesel engines built in the last 5 years would be much quieter and like their petrol counterparts. It is almost an embarrassing sound when I am starting out in the morning 1st and 2nd gears. I can't imagine people expect a sleek looking car like this could produce such a clattering sound. Is this normal? The other oddity I have experienced of late is like a miss-firing/loss of power when the engine is running cold. Its normally in 1st and 2nd gears again, and you can feel the power dropping for a split second sometimes when you put your foot down. The power picks up again almost instantly, but it certainly feels a bit weird. It doesn't happen all the time, and only seems to happen when the engine is cold. What could this be? Though my local garage is nice enough, I hate taking cars in as last time I went with an 'excessive interior moisture' issue and they were really very little help as it wasn't exhibiting the problem on the day. They say that they can't really do anything if they can't see the problem for themselves. This, of course, makes sense, but I can't guarantee that the car will show the awful noise and/or the loss of power when I take it in, particularly as the car will likely have warmed up by the time I get it there. The third minor irritation is the fact that the media/stereo/radio can take an age to get going when I start up the car. This is weird. I could understand it if it was trying to access music from the hard disk, but even if I click on Radio, it can still take a good 30-40 seconds to actually start - it just says 'System Starting...' or words to that effect on the screen. Surely a Radio station should be able to start almost immediately? Again, this doesn't happen all the time. Perhaps 50% of the time when I first set off from the engine being off. Anyone else have this? Other than that, it is quite a nice car to drive ;-)
  3. I guess I will just have to see what the dealer says. He will probably just give me a clip round the ear and kick me out of the door for wasting his time!
  4. Yes - all of them were diesels. I always have air con on. Could you confirm the settings I should have for effective clearing? I typically click on the 'MAX windscreen' button with AC on so this forces loads of air up over the screen. I would have assumed this is the correct way to clear the screen, but it takes ages to clear. I have also clicked on the recirculation button (which I don't think is possible with MAX on too), but this seems to have little/no benefit. There are two settings on the recirculation button - one has an 'Auto' symbol on it. I have tried both, but neither seems to have much of an effect. (also, should it be on cold or hot?)
  5. I've booked it in for a check next week. I hope I'm not being stupid about this. I've never had a car with so much moisture on the windows that took so long to clear since I had an old banger 15 years ago. Even with an outside drop in temperature and condensation on the windscreen, it should clear in under a minute or so shouldn't it (with maximum A/C fan on windscreen)?
  6. Oops. Premature post! Ive tried every settung I can find. Past cars I've had have cleared the windscreen very quickly.
  7. Nothing wet in the car. I winder if it is related to the rattle I get whrn the tenoerature outside drops? It literally hadn't cleared fully from around the edges of the windscreen by the time I arrived home 25 minutes later!

  9. When it is cold and I return to my parked car, the interiir is very fogged up. It takes ages to ckear even with windscreen fan on maximum - arounf 10 minutes. Is this normal? It is s right pain.
  10. I've had a 2012 plate Skoda Superb Elegance Greenline with all the bells and whistles for about 6 months now. In all that time, I've had an iPhone 4 and have been able to play music and make phonecalls via bluetooth quite happily. The track name even appears on the Skoda display which is nice. Now I have upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3. My bluetooth connection seems to be working (I can connect) but I seem to have the option of either a premium connection or a handsfree connection. It seemed to default to premium. In doing this, my S3 seems to drop of 3G and I can no longer play tracks (I use Spotify). When I switch to Handsfree, it seems to play fine, though I no longer see the track that is playing on the Skoda display. What is Premium? Why when I am on Premium does my S3 seem to drop off the 3G network? How do I get the track to display when I am connected via handsfree? I will do a bit more digging around I think...honestly...modern technology...!

  12. Really - a notice? I wonder when that was. Looks like I need to make a trip down to my local dealer. Just made a booking and they will have it for a day next week. Apparently you only get so long to sort out any squeeks or rattles!
  13. I've had my greenline estate from new and it is about 3 or 4 months old. I've covered only around 4000 miles. Over the past few weeks, a really annoying, intermittant creak has started near the driver's cockpit area. I can't pin down where it is. At first, I thought it was the windscreen as when I push hard on the corner of it, the creek 'seemed' to stop, however, it isn't conclusive as sometimes it doesn't seem to make any difference. My latest idea is that it is the drivers door as when I push hard on it, I seem to be able to reproduce a similar creek sound. It only happens when driving down a bumpy road surface, and even then, it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Its almost as if it only happens when it is colder outside. Has anyone had a similar annoying creek like this? What do people do? Take it to a local dealer and ask them to drive around with you a few times until the creek starts? This is a company car.
  14. Can you explain what that is exactly? So you are saying the hot rubbery smell is normal, and the fact that auto-shut off didn't function was normal?
  15. My skoda is oly 600 miles old. I got in at work ready to drive home (about 10 miles of 50-70mph) this evening and noticed that the front/rear sensor graphic on the display wasn't showing up. I could hear the beeps, but the graphic wasn't there. After about 3 or 4 minutes of driving I decided to stop the engine then start it again to see if that would kick the sensor graphic into working. It did. So, that seems to be a temp glitch. However, on my journey home, I noticed that the engine wasn't automatically shutting down as it normally does at the various sets of roundabouts and traffic lights. I did have the aircon on, but not excessively, and it's a warmish evening so the car had chance to get up to temperature. Very odd. On reversing onto my drive at home and getting out of the car, I noticed it was very very hot with a small of burning/hot rubber. I could hear a loud fan (much louder than usual) running under the bonnet. No smoke or steam, just the fan and the smell. Any ideas? I don't know much about cars, but I know this doesn't sound right. Like I say, only 600 miles old, and it's a greenline elegance model.
  16. The cabin interior is reasonably well sealed to outside noise. I'm quite glad as the engine on the greenline sounds very loud to me. Perhaps this will mellow out over time, but it reminds me a little of a transit van kind of sound. I guess I hoped it would be a bit more refined.
  17. I have my first annoying squeek! Its the accelerator pedal - everytime I lift my foot off (when changing gear for instance) I get annoying squeek, like I'm stepping on a mouse! Only got 600-odd mile on the clock! After 3 years of BMW ownership, I never heard so much as a rattle.

  20. Having read enough info on car cleaning products to bore most people to death, I have decided I 'need' to get some snow foam. I have a pressure washer by the brand Nilfisk. It's quite a good one I think, though I haven't used it too often. In the kit that it came with is a plastic bottle that you fill with a diluted mix of shampoo. I am wondering if this is the same as the snow foam lance adapters you see on the various car cleaning websites. The reason I am not sure is that they tend to retail for around £50 upwards, and seem to have various metal (brass?) bits on them. The one that I have is a simpler affair, all plastic from what I can tell, and there is no dial on the top like you see on the £50 ones. Do you think the be I have is indeed the right kind of snow foam adapter, or will I need to buy one of the expensive adapters?
  21. Just been to b&q as I needed a length of 2"x2". Bought a 2.4m length and it easily fit through the ski hatch into the car! Couldn't do that with my BMW!,,
  22. Agreed - far too small for the more modern, sporty, wrap around type sunglasses, and my head isn't even that big!
