  1. Thanks for your help guys, and no, I haven't checked the manual yet. But having checked in the infotainment system, there's a 'Maximum switch-on volume', but the lowest it can go is 5. Is there another setting I should be looking for?
  2. My 14reg Octavia's DAB radio has what seems to me to be a bit of a peculiarity. The radio is almost always 'on', but with the volume turned right down. It's like this because although I don't particularly want to listen to it, I want to receive traffic reports. However, every time I start the car, the radio can be heard at a low level. I turn it right down again, but the next time I start the car, again the radio comes on a low level. Is it faulty?
  3. Thanks for your prompt reply Matt, I saw that thread but only the "burning smell" bit, so ignored it. But like some of the contributors to it, we've had no burning smell either, but it does sound as if that's the issue, so my mind's at rest. Thanks again.
  4. Still getting used to my recently acquired 2014 Octavia. To be honest, I've driven it very little as I've been away and using our other car, my wife's been driving the Skoda. However, this morning after a brief 15 minute run, I switched off, got out, locked it, and experienced something my wife commented on as having happened once with her. There was a continuing noise, quieter than if the engine was still running, would it be a fan or the turbo still spinning? When it happened with my wife, she took it round the block and on returning home and switching off, there was silence. In my case this morning, I got back in and switched it on again, blipped the accelerator a couple of times and switched off. I got out and there was silence. So is this normal, or is there a problem? It doesn't happen every time the car is stopped and switched off. And nothing like this ever happened with it's predecessor, a same model and spec 57 reg. Appreciate any comment/help.
  5. Have to say I'm a bit concerned by some of the talk and attitudes on this subject. It's actually very simple, match the car's KW with the caravan's MPTLM. If the car is new and still under warranty, it would also be wise to take into account the manufacturer's stated towing weight limit. From a safety point of view, the car's power and torque are secondary factors.
  6. I've just bought my 3rd Octavia Estate 2.0 DSG. The 1st I bought brand new from my local dealer. The 2nd was a Skoda UK car I bought from a dealer 25 miles away. I visted my local dealer but the salesman, the same guy I'd dealt with when buying my first, made a classic salesman's error of not listening to what his customer was saying, and instead wanted to push his own agenda. This 2nd dealer did what I wanted and checked Skoda UK and found a car which suited me. The 3rd one, just bought, is a Skoda UK car too, bought from a dealer 240 miles away. It had sat somewhere, untaxed, for about 6 months, and was then bought by the dealer who had had it for about 6 months, also untaxed. There aren't too many 2.0 TDI Elegance DSG estates around!
  7. Just ordered my 2nd 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate DSG. A brilliant car all round, and the box is in a league of it's own!!
  8. Had my first dealings with Henrys Maxwell Road last week. Having had no response from my existing dealer, Ingrams Ayr, I popped into Henrys last Wednesday and had a chat with Jamie Hay. We discussed brand new, then he phoned Skoda which resulted in me being offered 4 nearly new cars. He quoted me deals for both a new car and one of the nearly used ones, and I left 'to think about it'. I phoned first thing on Thursday morning, managed to squeeze a bit more out of him for my present car, and duly went up the road and signed on the dotted line for a September 2007 with 2100 miles on the clock, which I should get late this week or next! So, 'so far so good'!
  9. I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have to laugh at the above comment about Ingrams being desperate to sell cars. Having bought my first ever Skoda from them back in July 2005, an Octavia 2.0TDI Elegance Estate DSG, it went out of warranty a month or two ago. I was very happy with the car and wasn't sure whether to keep it with an extended warranty, or replace it. I'd checked online Autotrader and the Skoda site and there were a few nearly new/demos about, but nothing in Scotland. I phoned Charlie Kennedy and told him that I was considering nearly new or brand new, brand new being attractive as there was a 5.5% deal available. He said that in theory it was possible to get a nearly used one but there weren't many around. We had another conversation a week or so later and he said he'd have a look around and see exactly what was available. Well that was several weeks ago and there has been no word back from him, so the outcome is that I've now ordered a new car from another dealer! ********************************************** But the bottom line is that if Charlie Kennedy had done what another Skoda salesman did, then Ingrams may well have got my repeat business. I suspect Alex Ingram wouldn't be too pleased to hear about my experience!!
  10. Must admit, I've got creaky steering too. Only happens going lock to lock when manoeuvring. Obviously I'll report it at the first service, but now over 12000 miles and no service indication yet!
  11. My DSG estate with 12000 miles on the clock now, is returning around 44mpg using the auto. This is calculated brim to brim, although the computer is showing 47!!
