  1. The DSG box used by Audi, VW, Skoda and Seat in theire cars is rated for 350 NM max. The 2.0 TDI (140 bhp) goes up to 320 NM, while the 170 bhp version goes up to 350 NM. Speaking to AMD and Jabba it's safe to asume that the DSG boxes have a 5-10% safety margin on them. Otherwise VW would never make the 170 bhp version go up the very max. Amd has remaped cars with dsg boxes up to around 370-380 NM with no problems. Really long term effects are to be seen though. BTW the DSG box used in the Veyron is a totally different beast.
  2. It's all about tourque. The 2.0 TDI 140 bhp has 320 NM of torque. The DSG box is rated at 350 NM of torque max. (The amount of torque found in the 170 bhp version of the 2.0 TDI, featured on the new passat) Talking to AMD and Jabba, there are ways of capping the torque and have a rather flat torque curve, but this is hard to accomplish. AMD has mapped a few cars with DSG boxes and they think that going less than 5% over the torque limit is not going to damage the box. This of course is debateable. Edit: this means that you can safely remap to around 170 bhp for the 140 bhp version of the 2.0 TDI without going over the limit of the DSG box As for the 170 bhp version, if you follow the rule of not going above 5% over the torque limit, you can theoretically (spelling) go to around 230 bhp, but I think that other components might give in before that. I tend to think that under 5% over the limit won't have anything to say. All components have a safety buffer.
  3. There is a brembo (gran turismo) kit for the new Golf V, that has the same part number as the kit for the new Seat Altea and new A3. Considering that the previous Octavia, Golf, Leon, Toledo, Bora, Beetle, A3, S3 and TT all shared the same kit I would assume that the kit for Golf V will fit the new Octavia since they share the platform they're built on. The part number can be found here http://www.brembo.com/ENG/Performance/GranTurismoBrakes/ There is a warning though: Have no idea what this is refering to.. Don't know the price for this..
  4. IIRC speaking to my dealer the airbags are only activated by a major impact force, he was telling me something that if you crash into a stationary object in 15-20 mph they would not go off. There are sensors on the front and sensors on each side of the car in the doors. For all the airbags to go off you would need a very complex crash, being hit on the front aswell as both sides of the car.. Btw, where do you get 10 airbags???...(driver front and chest, passenger front and chest + head curtains on both sides = 6 airbags)
  5.   talk about death wish, someone is bound to have been injured badly. I can't belive the spectators don't take more care, in one scene you can't see if the spectator was hit beacuse of all the sand...
  6. I do think that will look better in black as there wont be so much contrasting parts. Look at Skodas picture of the Octy with spoilers, quite nice..
  7. so basically: 15" steelie is ET 50 16" alloys is ET 50 17" alloys is ET 54 not wondering in conjunction with Octy 1, my Octy2 to is arriving around August so just looking for some wheels...
  8. yupp. me too, cracked the sump when I took on an "invisible" (night and dark) speed bump at around 40-50 km/h. Loud bang and that was that. The garage told me that I dind't crack it on the speed bump but rather on the landing after the speed bump . They could tell by no scraping on the sump just a long crack. They also told me that it is really common, specially on the TDI's since the sump is lower than on the petrols. That new sumpguard is really though. I took on another "invisible" speed bump a couple of months ago, albeit only in 35 km/h, made a loud clang and only managed to scrape the thing, not even dent it...
  9. just wondering what the offset of the wheels in the new octavia is..
  10. :iagree: i used mine all the time both in the rain, to wipe crap, and in the snow...
  11. Yupp the torque limit is 350 NM. Speaking to AMD to about this, they told me that they have remapped 2.0 TDI's with DSG to around 365 NM without any problems. What they can try to do is to cap the torque at 350-365 and rather have the torque band go through the entire rev range in a flat curve. This if course is very hard to accomplish and may require other mods. Im currently planning something along the lines...
  12. slighty out of topic, if you drive with overseas plates and get flashed by a camera do you get the ticket or....???
