  1. Hi All This has been puzzling me - I've tried the 'RTFM' approach but cant find the answer! When you want to put an address into navigation you would normally go Town > Road > House Number but it seems to me that if the road is a particularly long one you dont get the the 'House Number' option but instead you get 'select a junction' which is totally useless and there doesnt seem to be a way round it? Have I got an incorrect setting somewhere? Thanks Simmo
  2. Hi All Long time since I've posted on here but hope you can advise! I've just ordered a 190 DSG 4x4 L&K hatchback which I believe is shod with 235/45 tyres on 8x18 ET44 wheels - in my garage I have a set of Skoda 7½x18 alloys shod with 225/40R18 92V Avon Ice Touring tyres - This wheel/tyre combo have been used on both my previous Skodas (S2 4x4 Superb Hatch and Octavia 4x4 SE Estate) but will they be OK on the new car? Thanks Simmo
  3. Hi All Decision made - Superb PX'd for a nice new shiny Octavia 2.0 4x4 estate. In the end I went down the DIY repair route - got Autoglass to do the side window and bought a second hand Columbus off Ebay from Lithuania. I'll be sad to see the Superb go but it would never feel the same again. The Octavia is not a whole lot smaller, still gives me the 4x4, matches my 170 engine 0-60 but with a 150 engine, appears to be more economical and drives well. Dave
  4. Hi All Thanks for all the comments. Bottom line is that the deal has been done and I've ordered a new 2.0 4x4 SE estate - I couldn't resist putting a few shiny bits on it so it's a factory order with an ETA of end March! I'll definitely be keeping my spare set of 18" Themistos shod with Avon winter tyres. Regards Dave
  5. Hi Guys Wonder if anyone can put my mind at ease! I'm looking to PX my Superb for a new Octavia. The Octavia that I'm looking at has 16" wheels as standard but I have spec'd the 18" Golus wheels. The reason for doing so is that I have a spare set of winter tyre shod Themistos which I would like to be able to continue using if I go down the Octavia route. I realise I could simply swap the 16s for the 18s whenever I also think the larger wheel would look better. The only difference between the 2 types of wheel is that the offset is 46 on the Themisto but 51 on the Golus. If my basic understanding is correct it means the Themistos would project 5mm further out in the wheel arch. Looking at the Octavia in the showroom with 18" wheels on it it looks like 5mm would not be an issue. Any views? Regards Dave
  6. All The toe rags smashed their way in through the front passenger window - other than the fact it looked like a grenade had gone off in a glass factory there was no other damage to the door! It even looks like the scrotes even removed the Columbus with a degree of care - I suppose I should be grateful! By the way if anyone sees an ebay advert where the seller has taken a picture of a 'fired up' Columbus mine is easy to spot due to a 'blemish' in the display ie a semi circular shadow halfway up the right hand side of the screen - see attached. Dave
  7. Guys Thanks for the advice. I think I will go down the insurance route, yes I have protected NCD but I'm more concerned about the impact on my premium for the next 5 years, and that of my wife as I'm a named driver on her car. As has been alluded to the Skoda price is way too high (circa £2000) and the insurance company will end up paying it. The main reason I'm going to end up through the insurance is that I thought these units were a simple 'plug & play' install but I cannot be sure if the leads or connectors are all present and in good order. Does anyone know if a new Columbus now has DAB as standard? Thanks Dave
  8. Guys Had my Superb broken into this morning and the Columbus unit has gone! I'm looking for a cheap fix rather than go through the insurance and there are many units on Ebay - is it as simple as I think it is ie just plug a 'new' unit in (provided you have the code) or are there other issues I need to be aware of ie Bluetooth, steering wheel controls? All the wires/connectors seem to be intact as does the trim but the large black connector block which seems to marshall several smaller connector blocks is slightly damaged in that one one the connectors it holds no longer locks into place but I would have thought the push fit alone would be OK. Also does it matter if you go for a newer unit with newer software & firmware or for that matter will a VW RNS510 unit be OK. I can see that some of the buttons may differently labelled but I would have thought they do the same function Grateful for anyones thoughts. Cheers Dave
  9. Hi All Have had a spare set of four 18" Themisto wheels in the garage for a while and am thinking of having them shod with 225/40/18 Ice Touring ST's in readiness for this winter - my concern though is what do I do about the spare? Is it OK/legal to have a summer tyre in the boot for use in an emergency or am I better off relying on the AA in the unfortunate event that I suffer a puncture to a winter tyre? Thanks Dave
  10. My other half had the 105 TDI Monte for 18 months but in the end couldn't put up with the harsh suspension. Couldn't agree more with what others have said though ie on a good road the Monte is brilliant but you wouldn't want to take the Monte down some of our local back roads! Three weeks ago she swapped it for the 105 TDI Elegance and she is as happy as Larry.
  11. Hi Guys My 62 plate 170 4x4 Manual Saloon is 18 months old and has not yet reached 11k miles. It is on its original tyres which are Continentals. I noticed a few days back that the fronts looked a bit worn (3mm) so thought I'd swap them to the rear. On checking the rears they are also at 3mm which I thought was odd. OK so it is 4WD capable but my understanding is that the rear only kicks in when the front loses traction. Is it likely that I'm driving in 4WD mode more often than I think? The trouble is, as a driver, you get no indication that the 4WD system is operating. Dave
  12. Guys Thanks for the responses. I don't think I'd ever heard of diversity antennas before now and of course the vehicle spec, car manual or radio manual don't appear to help either. Anyway we've been back to the fitters (well known nationwide company) who seem to have accepted they got it wrong. All being well we'll be on our third windscreen next week! Dave
  13. Hi My better half has owned her new Monte Carlo (1.6D 105ps) but it has already had to have a new windscreen due to a stone chip. The original windscreen seemed to have a 'line' embedded in it behind the rear view mirror reaching about half way down the screen but the replacement screen doesnt have this. Nothing seems to have stopped working ie Swing radio so any ideas what this 'line' might be? Thanks Dave
  14. I'm with Coops on this one. My commute into work is only 6 miles - in the recent cold weather the tickover was at 1000rpm and it didnt drop at any point in the journey. I must admit I thought it a bit odd as I have had 5 diesels since 2000 and this is the only one to do it - thats technology for you I suppose! Dave
  15. Wife used her heated front passenger seat today for the first time - within 1½mikes she could feel it. Switched it off after about 4-5 miles as was getting a bit toasty! Seemingly no issues.
  16. £177.33 basic premium, fully comp, PNCB, business use, wife as named driver. I paid £25 for Legal Protection and accepted £250 voluntary excess and £100 compulsory excess. This is with RSA through the AA Didn't think it was too bad - Skode wanted £500 or £600 - I cant remember as I didnt take it seriously! Dave
  17. Hi I think the only things I don't like are: - the cubby holes are hard plastic and everything you put in them rattles! This is really annoying - the Columbus touch screen appears to not want to work first thing (is this because it's cold?) - the Columbus touch screen is incredibly inconsistent in its response to being touched even when 'warm' - the space saver spare wheel. It's better than a repair kit and I want to retain a flat boot floor. - not being able to shuffle play music from an SD card - no DAB radio offering from Skoda UK, even asked my local dealer again today and he insists he has no knowledge of anything in the pipeline Some of these are quite minor and the Columbus may have to be changed under warranty due to the 'shadow' on the screen (earlier thread) and I have be in touch with a SatNav company mentioned on this site about a retrofit DAB module but they can only offer a windscreen mounted antenna at present which I'm not too keen on. Dave
  18. Hi Definitely not a dirty mark - it looks more like it is behind the screen if that makes sense Photo attached - hopefully!
  19. Hi Guys This may seem like an odd question but has anyone noticed/experienced a 'shadow' on their Columbus screen? What I am seeing is a dark thumb sized semi circular shadow protruding into the screen halfway up the right hand vertical side of the unit. It doesn't seem to be affecting the screen display but it is very noticeable. Merry Christmas Dave
  20. Came to Skoda Superb from Jag XF and the following were important: Diesel for economy 170PS engine - had one in a Passat previously 4x4 for safety (rear wheel drive XF was frightening!) Elegance Spec - I need to have 'toys' and had to add a few more. Price - would have gone for the estate but the VAT Free offer didn't apply Dave
  21. 97. 5 Sept 2012 Elegance 170CR 4x4 Saloon Silver outside Black inside
  22. Hi Guys This is my first real post to the board. I've been looking at putting winter tyres on my 2012 170 4x4 Elegance Hatch but stepping down from 225/40/18's to 205/55/16's - thought I'd better check it with my insurance (through the AA) and basically, if I understood them correctly, they will only insure the car with the exact same size of wheel and tyre as fitted as standard. Firstly this makes the winter wheel/tyre package very expensive and maybe even impossible given the speed/load ratings of the OEM tyres (94Y). Perhaps I'll just have to rely on the additional grip/safety afforded by the 4x4 feature. Dave
  23. Hi All Have had my new Skoda Superb 170 Elegance 4x4 Saloon for a little over 3 weeks - have already done 1200 miles and touch wood all is well. My last car was RWD and treacherous in the snow so actually looking forward to winter this year! Will probably be asking lots of stupid questions in the future so thanks in advance! Dave
