  1. Excellent guide, thankyou. My flap refused to shut this morning, i was sure there would be a fix on Briskoda and sure enough you guys didn't let me down. Fixed in about a 30 seconds.
  2. Just managed to sort this problem on our Vrs thanks to this thread, ours had come adrift near the bulkhead and i found access easier attacking it from below the airbox standing at the front of the car. Although the pipes clicked back together nicely and the rear wash/wiper now works fine there is still a dribble from the connection but nothing to worry about.
  3. In the 26,000 miles i had my Vrs Tdi i got an average of between 42 and 45 with mainly motorway driving, i also never had a single issue with the DPF during that time, the only problem i had was the Turbo letting go, with the Focus ST i have now i am quite happy with the 30mpg average i'm getting for the same trip bearing in mind what it can drop to when you let it loose
  4. I had a Vrs Tdi for a year and 26000 miles, it averaged about 45mpg over that time mostly on the motorways, unfortunately it blew it's turbo and never felt the same afterwards and started dripping a bit of oil again the other week, those were the syptoms the first time it went, so after waying things up and bearing in mind my commute comes down from 26000 miles a year to 10000 at xmas i chopped it in for a Focus ST, on the same journey the Focus is doing 28.5mpg compared to the Vrs's 45mpg and whilst the Vrs is a tidy handler and a crackin motorway car i'm finding it isn't as sharp to drive as the ST but i guess it isn't supposed to be, i enjoyed the year and it was only a loss of confidence in the car on my part that made me change.
  5. I think the cover includes all the various options, eg, homestart, roadside, european rescue etc, i had to use it when my turbo blew on the M1 the other month and they were with me in 30-45 minutes or so, took me to the dealer 45 miles away then back home which was 40 miles from the dealer and sorted out a car for 48 hours so i was happy with the service they provided, the chap was a sound bloke too which always helps.
  6. I've had my Vrs Tdi for the past 10 months and 23,000 miles, it's averaged about 48mpg which as said above is excellent for the amount of shove on offer, just replaced the original front Continentals with a pair of goodyear Eagle F1's after 22,000 miles, they lasted about 500 miles longer than the original turbo
  7. Got the car back last Saturday , after the dealer having had it for the 3 weeks since the car broke down, turns out the turbo had blown itself to bits, if i understood correctly one of the blades in the turbine broke due to a manufacturing defect. The car has had a relatively easy life despite racking up the miles quickly as 98% of the miles are on motorways/A roads, so i don't know if there is a faulty batch of Turbos about. A new turbo, various gaskets and a new oil feed pipe later the car seems back to it's rude best, glad the warranty soaked up the cost though,
  8. No news on the car yet. The hire car i had as part of the recovery service went back yesterday and i have now got a Roomster for as long as i need it, swapped it over with no issues, i had requested another Octavia as i have a house move approaching and need a bit of space for taking stuff to the tip etc but the Roomster looks like it will be okay, the aftersales manager said i could have his car if the Roomster was too small, so its a thumbs up so far but we still need to get in to the nitty gritty of what's happened and what repairs are needed etc and this is where their reputation will be made or broken. I was suprised about no warning lights because i had the bong noise you get when the fuel light comes on/no seat belts etc and naturally when your on the motorway and you hear that for no apparent reason you check you dash pod for further info and there were no lights or anything, the engine cut out when i slowed up in traffic about 1/4 of a mile further on so i don't know if the engine does do that as a self preservation thing, the engine hadn't seized up anyway, we'll see.
  9. The engine basically died when the traffic started queueing on the carriageway where the A42 joins the M1 near east mids airport, there wasn't any smoke or anything to indicate a problem, i had to get the bugger turning over to get me off the middle of a motorway interchange without being cleaned up so unfortunately i can't imagine that did the engine any good with it having little oil in it, i got straight to the hard shoulder so only had to move it about 20 yards, it was either that or risk traffic hitting me, strange really as there were no warning lights come on or anything, just the smell of oil when i stopped. On first inspection the tech at the dealer thought it might be the turbo but it looks like all the oil has come out the bottom end, the top end is still clean. Ho hum.
  10. After racking up 21.5k since November in my Vrs Tdi it decided to dump the contents of it's sump on the M1 this afternoon and also over the back of the car  . I have my theories as to why, it was serviced 3 weeks ago and had a bit of oil on the undertray near the sump plug, it was due to go to the dealer tomorrow anyway for them to check that over. The oil level was fine on wednesday when i last checked it so it hadn't lost much if any, it is currently at the dealers for assessment etc. One good thing to come out of it was the service of the roadside assistance that you get, they were with me in half an hour and can't fault it at all, my question is that the recovery part gives you a replacement car for the first 48 hours free of charge, it is certain the dealer will need my car for longer than that so what do i do about a loan car after the 48 hours? I have a 110 mile a day commute so i can't get the bus or owt, will Skoda supply a car or am i going to be out of pocket? your advice would be most welcome
  11. It's a bit of a relief reading this, i thought i was just being incompetent not being able to read the dipstick properly, what's wrong with a bit of flat metal/plastic, i don't think a stylised dip stick is strickly necessary.
  12. Cruise control set to 65mph and a bit of careful planning so to avoid too much braking and i'm getting about 52mpg on a 50 odd miles commute down the M1/A50. You do have to take it steady to get that though, more normal consumption is about 45mpg. Mine has now done 19.5k.
  13. When you bear in mind how many of these engines must be in circulation with Audi/VW/Seat and Skoda in their various models ranges a few people with problems on a Skoda club website isn't really representative of the whole i don't think (not that that makes your issues any less annoying ), you can, and do get gremlins with any car currently on sale what i find can make these problems a bit easier to deal with is if you have a helpful dealer that can sort them out, if the dealer is useless then it is going to compound the problems. I know this is going to put the kiss of death on my motor but i've had my Vrs Tdi since November and done 19.5k miles so far, apart from the glow plug relay issue (that practically everyone seems to have had!) and servicing mine hasn't had any issues, no stuttering, no dpf issues etc, so anybody thinking of buying one please note that there are cars out there that don't have so many problems, although now i've put that mine will more than likely throw a wobbler on the way home.
  14. Had my Vrs Tdi since Nov last year and i'm just coming up to 16k.
  15. I bought my Octavia Vrs and the Missus's Fabia Vrs from Rainworth, sales were really good, got a nice chunk of cash off both. My Octy has been back for two warranty issues, the glow plug sensor and a new head unit after the display packed up, and it's also been for it's first free service, i'm quite happy with what they have done on mine. The Fabia has had a slight oil leak which has needed two visits to sort out so far so that's a bit concerning. They have been helpful and friendly though so can't grumble, there is one chap there that comes across as being a bit blunt and rude and upset the missus when she rang up but was okay when i spoke to him about it. It's a 70 mile round trip for me, clock garage is closer but i wouldn't use them if they were the last Skoda dealer in the country.
  16. You just need a 3.5mm jack socket at each end type of cable, plug one end into the aux socket in the jumbo box, the other in to the headphone socket on your ipod, go to the aux in bit on your head unit and press play on your ipod, all the controlling needs to be done via your ipod though apart from volume.
  17. On my Vrs Tdi which now has 13.5k miles on it i'm getting an average of about 45mpg. On a steady run down the M1/a50 at 65/70mph for 50 odd miles, which is my normal daily grind, it'll return between 50 and 53mpg for that stretch, but you have to be gentle with the loud peddle to return those figures. Keep up a normal motorway pace up and it'll return 45-48mpg.
  18. Apologies if i offend but can you give this a rest, you're looking like the school yard bully, just let them get on with it and don't read it, it's an internet forum, it doesn't really matter......... sorry
  19. My Vrs Tdi has had the juddery clutch thing from new, have getting on for 13000 miles on it now and it doesn't seem to be getting worse, i get it when i'm accelerating away from an island at low revs, say 1100/1200rpm in 4th as well, so i don't tend to do that, i don't know if it's slippage but it doesn't seem to have any problems else where. I mentioned it to my dealer at my 1st service just so they are aware of it.
  20. I've got a Tom Tom Go and that wedges in that compartment quite nicely, bit of a bonus as the windscreen sucker is useless. Don't know if that helps?
  21. This is something to keep my eye on, i'm coming up to 9000 miles now and my first service is due soon (i'm on fixed whilst they are free), although there isn't much you can do to avoid the engine going pop if you do have a failure by the sounds of it. What's other peoples oil consumption like? I've put a litre in during the first 9000 miles, don't know if that's typical but my old 1.6 focus needed no oil other than at service time.
