  1. Hi Took the car for the 40K mile service at another dealer and asked them to tighten the handbrake as it needs a few more clicks to hold. They adjusted the cable adjusters inside the car in between the front seats to two or three clicks to hold the car. Conclusion, it seems different dealers have different opinions on how many clicks are required to hold the car by the handbrake. Regards Diesel Estate
  2. No good being honest! Hi All 1 On one Sunday morning going to Sainsbury’s; I had a hit and run on my old Fabia 1.9TDI 105 bhp estate by a Range Rover from his toe bar. No damage to his car but £500 to mine. I photographed his number plate and gave him my details but he then did a runner without giving me his details. Followed him on snow and ice but lost him as it was a Range Rover. Eventually took him to small claims court but as no witnesses, he lied which was evident to the magistrate, she was done up like a Cheshire Cat and ruled in his favour. No doubt due to lack of evidence. 2 Later on, on same day going home slide into a stationary Nissan Vanette van at traffic lights and being honest admitted it. The driver said more damage to yours than mine as I was going only a few miles per hour. Rang him on Monday night to give details, he changed his attitude claiming loads of damage. My insurance company paid out £1600 for nothing and they would not let me see the Engineer's report on his vehicle. Then he claimed for whiplash but my insurance company rang me and hopefully did not payout for false claim. Conclusion True but sad, do not be honest if no witnesses! Sounds bad but you can get away with it as from my experiences and others above
  3. Hi Everyone Drivers door window still rattles in-spite of another dealer resetting windows due to windows opening by themselves. I suppose I will have to keep pestering dealers until some thing is done but do not hold out hope! I will have to try to spray window channels with silicon lubricant. Estate Man - do you recommend a silicon spray I could buy to try this?? Thanks. Diesel Estate
  4. Hi I got my Fabia Elegance 1.6 CR TDI Estate (June 2013) serviced at the dealers last Friday. Checked oil level when engine was cold on Sunday, needed 1/2 litre to full mark on dip stick and coolant level was on minimum. Went back to dealers yesterday, Friday, they said oil should be checked when 1.6 TDI engine is hot! Therefore engine oil level is OK?? Coolant level at minimum is OK in spite of me telling him I have a leak and best to fill to max in in case level decreases. Last dealer filled to max when he did service. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Diesel Estate
  5. Hi I had the water pump replaced on my 1.9 PD TDI estate under warranty but now my 1.6 CD TDI estate has lost water without any reason, the garage(s) can find the cause? Could it be the pressure cap on the expansion tank because I do not think the garage test for the valve inside the plastic cap? Diesel Estate
  6. Hi Thanks for your advice. Perhaps the garage was right but it seems different to the new car being set to 2 or 3 clicks. When I was a student, I had an Hillman Imp (giving my age away!) and set the handbrake at 3 clicks to lock. Regards Diesel Estate.
  7. Hi I had two Fabia's 1.9 TDIs PDs, 104 bhp, Level 2 and SE, Estates and got from the front Dunlop Sports about 30 thousand miles and the rears about 60 thousand miles doing 22 thousand a year on mostly motorways. I never rotated the tyres because I wanted the most rubber, grip, on the fronts. I think buy a well known make and shop around. Hope this helps. Diesel Estate.
  8. How many clicks should the handbrake be on before the car is stationery? Hi I have had my Fabia 1.6 TDI CR Elegance Estate (with armrest) serviced and drums cleaned and handbrake adjusted but it now locks on 4 clicks but the new courtesy car (2400 miles) I drove today whilst my car was being serviced locked on 2 to 3 clicks. I told the garage the above and he said you need 4 to 5 clicks to get the automatic adjuster to work? Is this an excuse for not adjusting the handbrake because he has to remove the arm rest which looked as if it had not been disturbed? I know I am disbelieving but that what you get from corporate garages. Thanks Diesel Estate
  9. Hi The tyre supplied was on the spare, I have not used it but the front two now need replacement due to wear and I may buy the Dunlop Maxx RT to match the spare. When the time comes for the rears to be replaced I will have to buy again Dunlop Maxx RT. Do any members have a better tyre to recommend for the Fabia 1.6 TDI? Regards Diesel Estate
  10. Dunlop Sport Maxx and Maxx Rt.bmp Hi What I mean is that the Maxx tyre tread pattern is repeated twice on the tyre but the Maxx RT is not repeated. I attach an image of both patterns. Technically you can have one Maxx and one RT on the same axle but I think this is not the ideal situation because of the different tread patterns and compounds. Dieseal Estate
  11. Dear All Dunlop Sport Maxx unobtainable tyres. Another problem that I have discovered down to Skoda and Mazda ordering Dunlop tyres that are specially made for car production and not for sale on the after market when you need to replace a worn tyre or two. Dealer fitted Dunlop Sport Maxx RT (asymmetrical tread pattern and harder compound) rather than one of the original Sport Maxx with a symmetrical tread pattern and softer compound to a spare alloy. I stated that the tyres are not the same; he stated he could not get the Maxx. Initially, I was skeptical to say the least but contacted my long established family tyre company and this is true not only my Fabia's but also on the Mazda R6? Question what is the best tyre to use, one with a symmetrical tread pattern or one with an asymmetrical tread pattern (pattern not repeated on both sides with respect to the centre line of the tread). Thanks. Dieseal Estate
  12. Thanks everyone. I have ran the car for 14 months and done 25K; ride was a little hard compared to the SE model at first but now got use to it and all seems fine. Regards Diesel Estate.
  13. Thanks Gentlemen Estate Man you are right, the dealer stated no fault as the early ones had a software update to cure this problem but the problem has almost disappeared having done 25K in 14 months. Regards Diesel Estate
  14. Hi everyone Eventually got a 16 inch alloy and tyre free from Skoda because of the broken loom bracket in the bonnet. Long story but the lesson is, inspect the car before paying your money or better get an independent inspection carried out! Good point is the alloy with tyre fits perfectly into estate well. Tried to put the spare on, on Friday only to find out the tyre size is correct but the Dunlop Sport MAXX type is RT not ordinary as other four tyres. Took tyre back today to get it replaced. Will keep you posted. Diesel Estate
  15. Thanks everyone Well as you might expect the dealer found no fault and would not replace the valves with the usual excuse, Skoda will not pay for work unless fault is detected! Not heard the metallic tapping noise since, so only can assume as stated in SlowBloke's e-mail it may have been a bit of dirt in the oil channel? Diesel Estate
