  1. Changed the wheel bearing today and fixed the issue. No ABS sensors change. Won't last for ever, so would love to hear how others deal with it? Where the cover sits: How it looks on stub axle. See the shiney bits that have been rubbing: ABS pick up ring: Cleaned up and coated. Used coating to check for clearance on new bearing.
  2. Thanks @Snapper. It figures, it's not on parts catalogues or drawings. it's mad something so flimsy is a part of the hub. I'll take a photo when I get around to it to make sure we're on same page.... Cheers
  3. Hi, I noticed last year in tracing a wheel speed sensor issue that the dust cover that sits on the stub axle (NOT the big brake dust cover) had rusted enough to rub on the ABS pick-up ring on the bearing to the point it had worn off. I bought a bearing kit, but unlike on older cars (mk2 golf) there was no replacement dust cover. I did my best to scratch off the layers of rust without the cover disintegrating, but needed the car so put it back together. All has been fine... Think I have got same issue on other side now, and would like to source cover before I start the job. Can anyone help me source it? Cheers Andrew
  4. Handbrake cable replacement isn't too hard but I found establishing the access to cable routing and lever base a speculative process as I couldn't find a single thread with a concise guide, but thanks to the forum for the snippets I was able to piece together while on the job. Handbrake Lever - sitting in the back open the ashtray, grab the door and give it a good pull. Two points of caution: 1, you are not pulling the tray off the hinge, you are extracting the entire ashtray hinge and its own little intermediate housing, so don't fight the hinge at the base or the limiting lugs at the top. 2, it looks like there is allowance for a little light in the ashtray in some cars, so be careful not to yank the ashtray so hard that you damage the light cables when the thing releases. Cable Routing - this is accessed from under the car (there is nothing to see under the seats!), by removing the fuel tank cover on each side. 3x T25 bits and a 10mm retained plastic nut. The plastic nut and T25s on the rear of the sill and the leading edge of cover came out no bother, on mine both of the T25s that go into the rear subframe were very corroded, one sheared. Unlike the other two which are self tappers into plastic inserts, this one is a fine thread into a steel insert. Could someone please post the part nums for the insert and screw - It's probably worth being prepared with replacements before starting the job. Once you have these covers off you can access the point the handbrake cables penetrate the centre of the rear footwells, the spring clips below the mid-point of the back doors, and the eyehole on the 'trailing arm' close to the wheel arch. Dont put your face under the covers when they come down, they are full of stones and grit. Caliper/Wheel arch - nothing too tricky at this area, the main thing is that the auto adjustment is internal to the caliper, so a couple of things: 1, if you suspect a sticky cable, it would be easy to diagnose by disconnecting the cable from caliper mech and checking range/ease of movement (I was thinking about the cables on my mk2 golf where the pretension for taking slope out the handbrake was in a spring in the cable sheath that had to be kept in tension). 2, if you had stretched cables I suspect you may have to remove and wind piston back in enough to get the new cable fitting. This will likely be a total faff if you are avoiding replacement of aged discs and pads.... 3, It is use of hydraulic system that takes out slack in cable mech, and it apparently takes a bit of time to settle. Hope this is helpful... Andrew
  5. The story seems to be (In my case, and I suspect some others, but not everyone) that up to end April 2014 the sensors were optional extras, and from May they were standard. I went into Skoda dealership in May, to order a car, but wanted it for baby arriving in June - there wasn't time to get one built, so I got one that was pre-built and ready for shipping - it was built in April. So although I was given May book to understand what I was buying, and was charged May price, I got something a bit less than I paid for. No failure on behalf of Skoda (group), nor any unscrupulous workmanship from garage sinse delivery, just poor communication and questionable ethics from dealership that sold to me....
  6. So just had a call with the service dept of the dealer i bought from - he has confirmed that no wear indicator fitted (code 9U0). He's off to speak with the sales team, and expects to call me back with some sort of explanation as to whether I should have had it or not....
  7. Thanks for replies, and thanks @Wino for the codes. I've looked out all the history I have for the car, including the sales brochure showing the factory fitted equipment. Brake wear indication is included on in the S and above. Got a better pic on the codes from the service book, and in line with the absent code for the front brake variant used, there is neither 9U0 nor 9U1! What sort of response does Skoda UK give to this sort of thing? This seems to appear that I have not received what I thought I was buying... not that VAG have any form in that area
  8. I've had he car from new, now 44k miles. Main dealers for servicing, this is the first thing other than tyres not done by main dealer. Am certain there hasn't been a previous pad change. There is a bracket on the suspension strut that looks like it could hold a connector for this job but it is empty, and there is no sign of anything else in the wheel arch. Is there a PR code on the boot sticker that denotes wear sensors? (Mind you according to that sticker there are no front brakes...)
  9. Hi all, been searching and can't see the answer I want, so digging up this old one.... Just changing the front discs and pads on my 3t 2014 superb elegance hatch. The new pads came with a single inner pad with a sensor, the pads I took off had no sensor - see pic. The obvious answer is to snip off the flying lead on the new pad, but that doesn't sit right with me! I've owned car from new, this is the first work done other than interval servicing. Surprised there wasn't a sensor on originals, and can't understand how the warning light that flashes on at turn-on expects to trigger, given general consensus that there is no rear detector. Don't need the car tonight so will leave it hanging to see what your thoughts are! Cheers Andrew
  10. I've not been in the guts of a new car - is there loom in there to support these parts or not? If I got a switch and a lieft hand wing mirror out of a rocco, could I plug it in a go?
  11. Has anyone retro fitted? The function is standard on rocco GTs - could parts be used from it?
  12. Hey all, Had our Octy for 3 weeks now and in the main I'm pretty damn please with it as a first family car. Couple of features I miss from out prevous Scirocco, although I don't have the cash to retrofit a MFSW! One thing I was wondering about whether there were even any parts required was the Mirror down function - it comes on Octy's only with electric adjustable seats. For those who may not have seen it before, it is an automatic adjustment of the left wing mirror when you select reverse so that you can see the kerb more easily, and then it returns to the normal position when you travel forward at 10mph or so. Can anyone advise if this is something that can be programmed without additional parts, or if there the need for a controller? How much have you paid to have it done? Cheers Andrew
  13. Hi, Been on here snooping around for a bit as my car has been on order since around June... Drove home an Octavia vRS hatch Diseasel today.. have driven all of 1.5 miles! Was a bit dark by the time i got home, so didn't get any pics, but took pic on Saturday.. Took a gamble on the Black wheels black grill, think it might need something else black to give it balance... one or more of the Wing mirrors/Front Splitter/Rear Spoiler are in my mind but I just don't know! Will leave it a bit to see what thoughts develop. Black interior is very nice compared to the Fabia 1.2 and Octavia 1.8d Estate I've had for the last 3-4 months - although they've served me wel to be fair! This is off the back of a long list of Dubs Sciroco GT TSi Golf Mk3 GTi Golf Pick-up Corrado G60 Golf Mk2 x 3 (at least!) Still got a Corrado G60 here too, but its a bit sick just now!
