  1. A few years ago I had a BMW E46 and the heated mirrors were designed to stay on all the time that the engine was running. Never really paid much attention to it until I moved on to my next car (Passat), then I noticed the mirrors misting up mid-journey whilst driving down the road in the autumn / spring. I now leave the mirrors on my A4 in the heated position all of the time, never had any sort of problem with it.
  2. I had the same type of discolouration on an 07 plate Passat a few years ago. Took it back to the VW dealer and they swapped out all of the chrome under warranty.
  3. Surely a battery that is only 2 months old should fall under the warranty? Even buying a cheap one from Halfords will get you a 12 month warranty, more for something like a Bosch...
  4. That's great, thank you. Still pondering over whether to take the plunge and spend all that cash on a Superb, so good to get this sort of info in advance.
  5. What sort of options are you referring to here please? Be good to know what can be enabled for free ins tread of specing from the dealer / factory... is Hill hold Control one of them? I'm sure I read on an Audi forum a year or two back that this could be enabled in the A4 via VCDS.
  6. What difference did this make to the start-up time? I know that a SSD significantly improves the start-up time for a PC, but does it have any discernible impact on the Columbus?
  7. ^^ +1 I spent 2 and a half hours at the dealers yesterday, the piano black looks fantastic IMO - not a fan of wood / fake wood at all. As for the brown leather, after looking at the images on the web I really wasn't sure about it however, seeing it in person with black paint, it does actually look the part.
  8. Thanks for the reply digidoctor. Any idea why there is no 3-spoke for the L&K? If it's just because they want the car to have a brown wheel, surely there's nothing to stop me from having a 3-spoke all black wheel fitted aftermarket? I take it that the standard 170dsg can have a 3-spoke fitted?
  9. Thanks for the welcome. Just need to agree a deal now.
  10. I've noticed the same thing on my 2005 A4 1.9tdi - the odometer, trip & fuel computer all show different mileages when you go on a long journey. Interestingly, TomTom comes up with yet another figure so I have no idea which of the 4 is accurate, if any of them are...
  11. I'm currently negotiating with a dealer with a view to buying their L&K 170DSG estate that is in the showroom, but have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with... Basically, when they ordered it they forgot to spec the MDI & 3-spoke wheel. The dealer is telling me that they can call in an auto-electricain to install a dealer-fit MDI in the glove compartment. However, I would ideally like it in the armrest, as per the factory fit. Has anyone out there retro-fitted MDI and, if so, does anyone know how much harder it would be to install it in the armrest that the glove compartment? I would have thought it would simply be a case of undoing a few screws and running the cable along the transmission tunnel, but the chap I spoke with seemed to think it was a bit of a mission to install in the armrest and not really a viable option. Any thoughts please? Also, the car currently has the 4-spoke steering wheel, and I would like a 3-spoke flappy-paddle one instead. He's going to investigate the cost of changing it over but, reading other posts on here, I'm wondering whether it would be cheaper to get someone like Shark to do the job? My worry here is that the L&K 4-spoke wheel is brown rather than the more usual black. Does anyone know what colour the factory upgrade 3-spoke wheel in an L&K would be? I read somewhere that if you buy a 3-spoke wheel you re-use the airbag module from the 4-spoke. Is it just the module that you re-use or the 'bag cover as well? If it's the cover then I would need to get a brown wheel from somewhere however, if the new wheel comes with a new cover, then potentially I could get a black wheel rather than brown. I can't see this looking out of place as the bottom half of the dashboard is black plastic anyway, what do you all think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Steve.
  12. Personally, I love those new images of how the Superb facelift may look. Interesting comments about the Kia Optima - I looked long & hard at buying both that and the sister car Hyundai i40 a month or so ago. Only thing that killed it in the end was the lack of headroom - I couldn't fit in to one with a panoramic roof, and the roof is standard on the top-spec models. :(
  13. Hi All, Just thought it time I registered and said hello. My name is Steve and I've been scrolling through the pages here for a few weeks now. I've been looking to change my ageing A4 for a few months now and have discounted almost every new car out there, most due to the lack of headroom - I'm 6'5" and have an unusually long back. However, I've pretty much decided now that I have found the ideal car - the Skoda Superb. I've looked at a few of these already, and ended up test-driving a 170DSG Elegance yesterday. Wow, what a car! Anyway, I've got lots of questions out there just waiting to be asked and answered, so I'm sure that you'll hear more from me over the coming hours, days & weeks!
