  1. hi I'm on a low budget and had to replace my old taxi so bought a high mileage (229000)! Octavia mk2 ( April 2010 first registration) . Last night oil warning light came on. Checked dipstick twice: dry! went home right away. Trying to do the right thing: read manual: it is the BXE engine and has variable service interval (QG1) so should use VW 506 01 or VW 507 00 specified oil.. I still have some oil I used on my old 2003/4Octavia 1.9 tdi Mk1 which is specified to VW 50500 and 500 00.. Do you think I can use that to refill oil? Was told that last oil change was done 10000miles ago. Also would appreciate a comment on cambelt change: the previous owner said he used to change every 40000miles- last at 198000. Initially I thought that is a little bit overcautious but reading through the forums it might be the right thing on this BXE engine MK2. Thanks
