  1. Thanks very much FriendlyFire. Really helpful.
  2. Not been on here for a while as new Octavia is behaving itself ! Thank you Darren for response. We do wonder whether the reservoir cap just wasn't on properly originally but so far so good.
  3. I have a query please for the friend that we sold our old Octavia to.Its an 8 year old Skoda Octavia turbo 1.9 diesel going in for 8 year service and cambelt change. Does it also need glow plugs changing at this point ? Thanks very much.
  4. Thanks very much all for helpful responses. I haven't heard back from the garage so will be calling them tomorrow and checking they have considered the possibilities suggested. I am hoping whatever is wrong is covered by the warranty since its new and we've only had it about six weeks. Darren - following on from Silvergamer's post did any coolant get on to the timing belt itself ?
  5. Last posted on here end June just before we went on holiday to the French Alps with our brand new Octavia TDi 140 having received some very helpful advice from forum members re the DPF warning light coming on which had worried us. The journey in the Octavia was great - really relaxed - despite a blow-out due to a nail in a tyre on the way down. Fortunately we had come off the motorway and husband was able to change it and local garage then repaired it for 23E. Tip from Peter re the tolls tag was great - we gained time at each toll as didn't have to slow down to pay and also felt smug as we sailed past the pay queues ! Unfortunately I am back with another issue and hoping members can help again. The coolant warning light came on on Monday and when we checked the level of the coolant it was significantly down. Car seemed to be running fine up to that point. We haven't noticed any puddles under the car so no initial evidence of leakage and not sure where it has all gone. Husband insisted Skoda assist towed car to Skoda main dealer so it hasn't been driven at all since the light came on. Its now with the garage. Rang them this morning and they seem at a bit of a loss - have had initial look but can't find anything obvious as to where coolant has gone but confirm levels are right down especially in the "header" ? (not sure I've remembered that right). Has anyone had a similar issue please especially recently with a new Octavia or any ideas as to what it might be ? Very upset as really enjoying the car !
  6. Thanks very much everyone for such helpful responses re query and the great tip re the tag. We haven't had DPF or a CR engine before so really good to be able to get advice from people familiar with them. Husband now much happier !
  7. Thanks very much for the great tip Peter - I have seen French drivers speeding through the telepeage as we queued to pay and didn't realise UK drivers could get them. Have had a look and we have time to get a tag before we go. Will speed things up considerably.
  8. Thanks so much for such a quick positive and helpful response. Very reassuring ! Our previous Octavia was pre-DPF so no experience of it before. Not sure why garage says it isn't DPF especially with no sight of vehicle because this seems entirely correct and logical explanation. Glad your car is performing so well - hope ours does the same. We are looking forward to introducing it to the French motorways.
  9. We have had our brand new Octavia 2l diesel CR 140 PS for nearly a week and are now up to 700 miles. Everything has been fine until this morning when my husband drove it to work - a trip of about 15 miles mainly over A roads maintaining steady 70mph. He parked up and switched the engine off and since the temp gauge was normal was surprised that the fan came on and stayed on for over five minutes for no apparent reason. We previously had a 1.9TDi Octavia from new and never had this with that car. Particularly concerned because we are driving it to the French alps next Friday ! Looked on the forum and saw a similar problem had previously been diagnosed as being in connection with the DPF. Rang the Skoda garage and the mechanic said it was definitely NOT DPF and he had an Octavia which did it as well and it wasn't a problem. Husband isn't happy however and wants to know what's actually causing it if not DPF - specially considering not warm day and engine not stressed on drive in. Might it be to do with more of the engine now being made of aluminium and so getting hotter ? Husband won't be satisfied til he understands what's really happening so any advice would be gratefully received.
