  1. Hi. Sorry for late reply. The replacement engine was from a 2002 Polo. We just ordered one from ebay in the end and it has been fitted recently. 200 miles so far so good. thanks again for your input
  2. Hi. I've had to purchase a 2nd hand AZQ engine to replace mine which had the timing chain guide shear off and cause it to self destruct. The engine I now have ready to be fitted is from a polo with 63k. I'm looking to replace the timing chain kit before i fit the engine and wondered if there was an upgraded version out there or if I should just go for a run of the mill kit from ebay? Has anybody else experienced this fault and what would you recommend please? Cheers Kev
  3. I've really enjoyed the performance, mpg and reliability of my octavia. Its just not big enough now.
  4. If you feel the need to tinker and fiddle with an octavia you can always go over mine when you visit next week! Can't believe I've had mine for 6 months now. Time for a change though. I'd swap it for a Bolf!
  5. GUESSING YOU AVOID GOING THE STANLEY ROUTE (.......VERY ROUGH!!!)
  6. We used to just bypass the resistor in the old vw illumination dimmers as they had a habit of melting and causing dashboard burnouts. It means that it'll be the brightest it can be all the time. That was mark 1 and 2 golfs though so not sure how tricky it would be now. Think it was the same on older peugeots as well?
  7. Alright Cuz. They do look much better in the day light. I'm defo taking the rs8's off of mine and selling them on, doesn't look right with standard 4x4 ride height and large rims.
  8. Thanks Steven I thought that would be the case. Shame. Cream seats, custard door cards and black dash and carpets...not a good look! I'll just look for a decent octavia interior instead. Cheers.
  9. Hi I have an Elegance 4x4 with lovely "custard" colour cloth interior which isn't easy to keep clean. I've seen a cream leather mk4 golf gti interior for sale locally. I know the seats will fit but do the door cards interchange also? I doubt it!! Any help will be greatly appreciated Kev
  10. Yeah, I blacked my grill last week, it completely transforms the front end. I used Matt black vinyl wrap from ebay, very tricky job but worth it. (ignore the quattro badge, it looked ok on when grill was chrome) Just need to sort the rear end, it looks bland in its standard guise.
  11. Bowders1 I like your look. Black Spiders and black roof and diffuser. Nice.
  12. Finished?!! I doubt it. I'll get a text next week with the next modification. Looks good though. The mods had started in August when I was up visiting but its really transformed since then. Send any spares my way!
  13. Thanks Babs I'm really now thinking that its way too much hassle. Was hoping for a slightly different look to the norm but I'll just save for some Audi or VW replacements. Trouble is, they'll be much more expensive for equivalent size. Thanks again
  14. I used to work for an auto electrician. I agree that Lucas/TRW no longer exists. The unit supplied by them would have been a reconditioned Bosch one. Avoid any starters (or alternators) made in China. They may be cheap but they don't last. A genuine Bosch unit in a Bosch box will most likely be very expensive. If you go to a local motor factors and look in the box, it may even have a Bosch number stamped into it. All should carry a 12 month guarantee.
