I have a 57 plate 1.9tdi Octavia with approx 190,000 miles and over the last 12 months or so it has had the following: New Alternator Reconditioned Starter Motor New Battery New Glow Plugs However it still hates starting on cold mornings. On Saturday it took 4 attempts before it started and this morning it wouldn't start until I jump started it from a donor car. Any one have any idea what else I could look at before having to spend loads of money thru a garage?

Time for a quick update. Picked up a new more powerful battery (70Ah 620CCA) the car has been starting 1st time with no problems. Fingers crossed that has solved the problem

No smoke that I noticed

Takes a few turns before it starts, almost like a flat battery. Battery is Lion Battery 075 60Ah 520CCA. According to the wife (who drives it the most) there is no difference hot or cold

Don't know about glow plug condition as not checked them but was starting ok before starter motor issues. The alternator is only a few months old. The starter motor had new solenoids and a clean up. The battery is a cheaper brand from a local motor factors. Unable to check fault codes as I don't have a reader. No extra power drain issues as far as I am aware as we don't leave any accessories plugged in and we haven't added any extras to the standard in-car entertainment.

Hi All. My octavia has recently had new alternator and a recondition starter motor due to two different problems. After refitting the starter motor the battery was iffy so we bought a new one. The sales guy in the car part locally said that the one we bought which was 1Ah less than the one we removed would still be ok to start the car. After only 3 days it is struggling to start. Is the battery under powered?

Fuel consumption so low it is worrying

Gets up to temp ok (90oC), tyre pressures seem ok. I haven't had a chance to give it a long blast but have tried to give it some welly. I did the reset as detailed on http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/146724-re-map-not-feeling-like-it-used-to-read-on/ (the foot on throttle, ignition on to dash lights on, wait 10secs etc, not the battery disconnect one) then reset avg MPG (trip 1 not trip 2) and took it for a 15min drive of all sorts of speeds and got avg of 18.6mpg -
Hi All I have a 56 plate Octavia 1.9TDI PD Ambiente Estate with 166000 miles on the clock. Service history is good from previous owners. My concern is that according to the multifunction display shows average mpg (assuming it is mpg rather than litres/100km) is less than 20!!!!! Any ideas what the problem could be or where I could start trouble shooting? I have only had the car 10 days or so and I am worried I have bought a dud. Many Thanks Liam
