  1. Hi, sorry for the slow reply. I haven't posted a specific post about what I did but have mentioned it on another thread. Basically when you pull of the engine cover and turn it over you will see the four connectors, one in each corner. They slide out so you can change them. The originals that were in mine were a sort of hard plastic and were kinda loose/worn allowing the cover to rattle. So I spoke to my local Skoda dealership and they found the parts and it priced at around £10 but they didn't have any in so would have to order them and asked me to pay for them. As it was so little I said I wanted to pay cash and they insisted I came in to pay that cash before they would order them. Not liking their attitude I got the part number and spoke to a local VW dealer instead and they ordered them in without me having to pay in advance. The supplied connectors were the same shape, size, but made of more rubberized material and has a very snug fit and any vibrations that may exist will be absorbed instead of turning into a rattle. 2. Hi, I have the 2.0 TDi 140BHP Elegance on a 10 plate. Bought it at the start of August this year and it had 35000 on the clock and for the money I paid for it it is easily the best valued car I have ever owned. Having run it for about ten weeks now the mileage is up to 42000 and I can quite happily say from a driving, comfort, gadget, financial (mpg) point of view again it is quite simply the best car I have ever owned. Best MPG so far doing a trip from Gatwick to Heathrow was 63mpg and that was with the speed floating between 65-70mph. Round the town it never seems to be worse than 45mpg. I basically searched good old autotrader to find mine and ended up travelling from Gatwick to Cwmbran, South Wales, to get it from a non-skoda dealership out there. As for real negatives, I struggle to find one. I have had a few minor rattles/squeaks/creaks which after a little investigation have been found and solved. I've also quietened down a couple of engine rattles by securing the air intake a little better than Skoda had bothered to do and also replaced the plastic engine cover mounts with rubber ones which absorb vibrations and therefore doesn't allow the engine cover to vibrate any more. Also I have changed the front tyres on mine from a budget pair to a decent pair as having the 18 inch wheels means you are more likely to suffer road noise, and the budgets I had on mine where incredibly noisy and so I got shot of them. On the whole though this is a fantastic car, you might even say it's Superb! :-)
  3. Mine was suffering excessive tyre noise but now I've sorted it. My car came from a dealership with Fullrun tyres fitted, looking almost brand new. No idea if it was the garage or the previous owner who had fitted them but I would highly recommend that if anyone is ever considering getting a set of these to forget about them instantly. They are by far the nosiest tyres I have ever known but also the most useless in the wet. Anything beyond the most modest of sensible driving would see you on the edge of losing what grip there was, and that doesn't bode well should you find yourself in an emergency braking situation. Anyway, solved my problem by picking up some part worn Michelin Pilot S3's, driving in virtual silence now :-)
  4. Hi all, sorry to jump in on the original posters thread, but what was the recall for, ie what problem caused them to update the programming. It's just my seat isn't working fully. It makes all the movements, holding 1 will shift the seat to the position I first set, but seemingly I can't set any new positions to either presets 1, 2 or 3. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
  5. Finally my 24 month contract was up on my old Desire phone and so I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy III in the knowledge that with Android version 4.04 it would allow Rsap connections, well it does, but I have a couple of problems. Firstly, my Superb is a 10 reg and so I can only connect my phone via Rsap. Initially it does connect just fine but after about 90-120 seconds the columbus will show a message saying something along the lines of "Bluetooth connection with phone not possible" but then within the next 20 seconds it reconnects and stays connected. I know that this is just a small problem as it does stay connected the second time, but would love it not to have the initial hiccup in the first place. Secondly, the phonebook won't download? I have no contacts on the actual Sim and I would have thought that this is what would be the problem, but, the other phone I have used (Nokia 6300) didn't have the contacts on the Sim either but it downloaded the phonebook just fine. Also when taking a call from the wife yesterday her name displayed properly on the Columbus unit. Any idea's or thoughts on how to solve these two minor but annoying problems would be great :-)
  6. Yeah I had that to.......does this mean we are special.......or clearly just special cases who need help lol ;-)
  7. Hi, my thoughts would be that if the hardware was there, ie the receiver, then you'd have the feature already. As you have no option to switch on the telly I would say there is no receiver in your car. As for the speed limit restricting the DVD, I would suggest not. Can't imagine any dealer would be that irresponsible with matters of safety. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
  8. Hi, As far as I'm aware its just a case of turning the radio down should you not want to listen to it whilst having the map up. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
  9. Great idea, would love to have something like this if my Columbus decides its had enough. Not entirely sure I would buy from Ca-Fi or not. They sell from Hong Kong and the Eurpean partners seem to be based in some countries we are told to be wary of when it comes to buying stuff on the likes of ebay. I have no wish to suggest this isn't a great product but for something that is such a great idea and would have a massive market in the UK due to the popularity of Android and the amount of cars we have here that I'm surprised there is no direct outlet for them here. Plus if you do buy from them, in the T&C's it states there will be import duty payable, so that'll push the price up by 20%.
  10. Ah, of course, your the other way around. You need to try and locate the engine bay wall nearest where your passengers left foot would be, if you see what I mean. It should be covered in a silver lining, if you can get your arm in there and give the lining a bit of a banging you might find, like I did, a bit that vibrates back at you after being struck. Then all you would need to do is pin down the wall lining to stop that area vibrating.
  11. Ah ok, had to check lol The white plastic/bottle, looks like it's the brake fluid container but I may be wrong. Mine, I'm sure, is on the left handside of the engine block. I'd have to say I'm not experience at all with other variants of engine slotted into the Superbs, and so if it's different to what I faced with here then I'm at a bit of a loss to be able to help you. What I found and did has totally worked for me, I have a noise free drive each and every time now. No tinny foil like metallic rattle/vibration/resonance anymore and no booming exhaust-ish type sound coming from the engine whilst holding revs or slowly moving through the lower rev range in 1st or 2nd gear due to securing the air intake system and not allowing it to move and rattle as freely as it did. I hope you find a way to do the same or similar, I guess there is always a chance that someone who has your variant on the engine will be able to interpret what I did to mine to see if it can work on yours. Good Luck :-)
  12. Nope, didn't unmount anything, but one thing I have just noticed, your profile says your car is the Audi TT and not a Skoda Superb? If that is correct then it's not going to be the same as mine because this topic is all about the Skoda Superb II, and mine is the 2.0 TDi 140 BHP CR, hence the reason my pictures look nothing like your engine.
  13. The AC warranty shouldn't affect any Skoda warranty but I would say get it in to your local Skoda dealership sharpish as you're right on the border line for the warranty time limit of 3 years, unless of course your mileage is already way above 60,000 miles in which case the Skoda warranty is already void. Good Luck :-)
  14. The way I did it was to use my PhotoBucket account. Upload the pictures to there, then once uploaded view the album and hover your cursor over the picture and a box will appear with 4 different codes. Click on the bottom one and it will copy the Image Code. Then just Paste that code into your thread and the picture will appear at full size. I suspect there may be other ways of doing it but I have used many forums over the years and it has worked with all of them so it's a method that I have stuck with.
  15. It seems as though I have solved my tinny, metallic rattley, resonating sound that sounds like it is behind the glovebox and only really ever happens at idle, more so with the clutch down and then again when at 1500rpm, specially in slow traffic when holding the revs in and around that range. As requested above here are some pictures of where it comes from in the engine bay and how I solved mine. As you'll see from the first picture there is something else I am going to do as I believe the air intake box and air filter box moves far to freely and giving it a bit of a whack creates quite a rattle. My independent mechanic seems to believe it could give off a bit of an exhausty booming noise, which my car sometimes does, again at specifically low engine revs. So I am going to cable tie the neck of the air intake towards the front sill and create enough tension so that the two boxes no longer rattle when struck and wobbled. Also going to get new clips for the engine cover itself as that to moves a little to freely. Hoping that when those two things are sorted that my motor will be as quiet as it can be.
  16. Well I went out last night to get some bits from the shops and drop off some charity stuff and made the drive last half an hour or so and in that time I came to several standstills at junctions, traffic lights etc and there was no sign of the vibrating sound. I have a few jobs lined up today that means I'll be covering another couple of hours worth of driving and if there is still no sign of it then I guess its solved. I'll then stick up some pictures to give a clearer idea of where it is and how I sorted it out. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
  17. Right, thought I would post what I found. At this stage I have no idea if I have solved it or not, but the next few days should give some kind of answer. Decided that because my investigations inside the car and implementing the blue tack solution hadn't worked that I would start my search in the engine bay instead. Having a good look down the back of the engine bay nearest to the passenger side, you can see the silver material lining the back, so I decided to see if the is solid, stuck well or if it freely moves etc. So I stuck my hand/arm down through the gap at the top left hand side of the battery down to the lining and gave it a reasonable tapping, to which it vibrated and resonated back at me each time I hit it. Although I get the sense that it wasn't the actual lining that was resonating but whatever lives behind it. So I tried holding my thumb firmly against the lining and then giving it another tapping with my fingers and as you would expect there was silence. As it happens there is a thin solid pipe that runs along that piece of the engine bay and there is a plastic clip that holds the pipe in place, so I wedged an old allen key between the piping and the lining and then ever so slightly dug the bottom end of the allen key into the lining so that it can't ever work its way free downwards. After doing this I tapped the area once again and there is now silence where there was once a rattle/vibration/resonance. Like I say, no idea if this is the same rattle that I get in the car at 1500rpm or not but I will let you all know if it appears to still be there or not over the next few days.
  18. Seems I spoke to soon as my rattle came back, and like a couple of the posts mine seems to resonate, specifically on idle but more so at 1500rpm. It happens every now and then when you come to a standstill but gets more frequent when in stop start rush hour traffic. Gonna head back out to the car in a little while armed with tools and my torch to get see if I can get a proper look around under the dash from the passenger side and even at the back of the engine bay from the middle to the passenger side just in case there is something loose round there that could rattle and resonate. If anyone has any further thoughts, clues, ideas or even solutions please feel free to me/us know as its bugging the hell out of me now lol
  19. What age is your car? If it is mid 2010 or earlier then you probably have the old Bluetooth box like mine does and wont allow just a simple hands free connection, it has to be an RSAP bluetooth profile, and your Desire HD doesn't have it. There are methods via Rooting your Android and then getting an RSAP app, but I couldn't do it with my Desire, just wouldn't have it at all. So the way I have managed it is to find one of my old Nokia's, a 6300, and get a PAYG sim for it and leave that permanently in the car, then when I get in the car I simply divert my Desire's calls to the PAYG number and hey presto I get my calls through the car. The menu on Android to get to the Divert all calls is a bit long winded but I found an App which allows you to do a single button press on your desktop to divert calls and then end the divert as I get out of the car. It's called Simple Call Forwarding. However, having said all of this and your car turns out to be 2011 onwards then I know not why your phone doesn't connect as it should have the newer bluetooth box lol.
  20. Check out www.skodaparts.com In fact here are a couple of links to the blades :-) http://www.skodaparts.com/product/superb-wiper-blade-o-s-2008-2013-50067 for the far side blade http://www.skodaparts.com/product/superb-wiper-blade-n-s-2008-2012-50066 for the near side blade
  21. I have to say that in the first week of owning it I had a dull ache at the bottom of my back, specially by day 7, but since then it has died off and disappeared. Yesterday was my longest working day in it yet. I spent approximately 9.25 hours in it yesterday, 5.9 hours were actual driving and 3.35 hours waiting in between jobs, and yet today my back feels great. Must have got used to the seat after what is now 3 weeks of ownership.
  22. Well at the moment I have two jobs/businesses. I am a pro photographer, doing weddings and portraits etc and this would be my one and only business as it is my passion, but sadly it doesn't quite pay enough to cover the bills so my other business is in Private Hire, I know you said to discount it but I am more a Chauffeur than a Taxi. I only do upper class work within the corporate business world or on the odd occasion celebrities/sports stars etc. The company that supplies me with most of my work urged me to get an E-Class or a 7 Series but I refused to even think about it unless they subsidised the cost, of which there was no chance. They have now seen my Elegance and the Boss has even been driven in it and their attitude towards it has changed somewhat, for the better of course lol
  23. Thanks Declan, read through a lot of that and figured the BB may be more trouble than its worth so I headed back in to the cupboards and managed to find an old Nokia 6300. Sadly I have no charger for it but luckily I have one of those multi-battery charger devices and it charged the battery enough to make it spark into life. Stuck a really old, inactive SIM card in it and took it out to the car. It paired instantly giving a code of 4444 5555 6666 7777, entered it into the phone an within seconds it completed the pairing. Need to head out tomorrow now and get a PAYG sim and an in car charger and my little work around will be put in to action :-)
