  1. Thanks for the tip. Now driven another 700 miles or so and it's run beautifully so far.
  2. Thanks for the replies. Interestingly I've now down another 200 miles of mixed driving and and the fault hasn't reappeared. Everything seems spot on at present. Of note, having done a bit of extra research it seems the glow plugs on the CR TDI are not just for cold start and have a continued function when the car is in motion. Found a few forum posts (not Skoda related though) of judder at low revs in motion on other modern diesel engines apparently being solved by glow plug replacement. Could be complete red herrings, but you never know. Will repost here if the problem comes back.
  3. Well fault code thrown up (no warning lights on dash) indicated a faulty glow plug. Code was wiped but then came back after test drive. I can't for the life of me see how this could be the origin of the judder, unless the glow plugs have another function in the CR engine I'm not aware of! Anyways, they've replaced it at a discount given the recent work I've had done (the part is surprisingly expensive). Time will tell!
  4. Thanks for the replies. Car is back with dealer awaiting being investigated tomorrow. I'm afraid it'll probably be one of those intermittent faults that they will not be able diagnose, bearing in mind it drives fine otherwise and I'd be surprised if it's thrown any fault codes. Pretty sure they replaced the bolts as they are listed in the parts on the invoice. However, seems worth getting looked at now just in case something major happens later on down the line.
  5. Had my failing DMF replaced on my 09 VRS TDI DSG a few days ago (78k). Driven about 30 miles so far. In the main it's solved all the problems that existed prior to the work. Now nice and smooth and the noise at idle and the feeling of inappropriate inertia on slowing to a stop have all disappeared. Despite this I seem to have a new problem: Twice now I have had a few seconds of really noticeable, fairly excessive "juddering" of the whole car whilst driving. The first time was on flat road whilst accelerating in second at about 25mph. The second was in first/second accelerating from about 10mph uphill. It felt like the same sort of sensation you get when driving fast over the mini speed bumps in 40mph zones, for example; as if there was something in the road (there isn't) causing the whole car to shake briefly for a few seconds. Like if you mess up a gearchange in a manual and engage an inappropriate gear and let the clutch pedal up too quickly it'll kangaroo down the road. It very odd and clearly cannot be a coincidence that only 2 days/25 miles ago major work was done removing the gearbox and replacing the DMF. Never had anything like this before, and as I mentioned, all the DMF-related symptoms have resolved. Will be phoning the dealer tomorrow but not sure what might be going on and if I should insist on not driving it any further unless something is catastrophically wrong?! Any thoughts welcomed!
  6. Just thought I'd resurrect this thread in case my experience is of any use to anyone. Have an 09 DSG VRS diesel. Flywheel rattle noted on an MOT last year at 69,000 miles. Subsequent symptoms noted by myself over the last 5000 miles included: - Increasing vibration at idle, particularly in neutral and park. Would "shudder" every now and then as if a large lorry was driving past! - More of a noticeable clank on low speed downshifts from 2-1 in particular. - A quiet transient thunk when depressing the accelerator in 1/2/3. Only audible when very quiet. - Jerky / shuddery movement when slowing gradually to a stop. I realised I'd just got into the habit of releasing the brake as I came to a stop to mitigate this without realising! Dealer wanted £500 to diagnose by stripping out box to confirm flywheel actually faulty. Because the symptoms fit with what I'd read I just got them to change it. Quotes very variable: - Main dealer best £1200, worst £1400 (one told me they can't change the DMF and would need to replace the entire gearbox, won't be bothering them again!) - Local VAG specialist £1000 Having now had it replaced it's like having a new car; - All symptoms above now gone - Amazing how much quieter the car is now at idle! I reckon I just caught mine in time TBH. Glad I did.
  7. Thought I'd add my name to the list of people with a failed compressor this month! 2009 FL VRS Cr. First thing to go wrong in my ownership over the last 2.5 years. Feared the worst given the apparent unreliability of these compressors, had it re-gassed for £35 at local independent who say that there are no leaks and compressor has failed. They say its the 3rd VAG compressor they've seen gone in the last 2 weeks! They quoted £440 all-in. Local Skoda dealership quote £680ish. Say given FDSH and bought Skoda used-approved may be eligible for some goodwill from Skoda but want £90 just for diagnostics before they can go any further. Can cope without air-con for next few months (got bills coming out of my ears at the mo) - anyone know if leaving it for this time will do any harm to the rest of the system?
  8. Looks good, nice colour! Did you get whatever was causing the Control system for exhaust light fixed? http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/312418-control-system-for-exhaust-light/#entry3737576 http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/312654-i-am-being-ripped-off/#entry3740329
  9. Looks nice! Not sure if traders are allowed to advertise in here though. (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201308128273570/sort/default/usedcars/price-to/10000/maximum-mileage/up_to_20000_miles/model/octavia/make/skoda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/keywords/1.8/postcode/bh48db/radius/1501/page/1?logcode=p)
  10. For the poster above - the problems with the injectors & DPF were with the PD 170 engine, not the CR. So far the faulty dpf sensor seems to be the main, easily fixable problem on the CR. What must be very frustrating to those TSI owners after the reports of all these failures is that I would expect a reasonable proportion would have been put off the TDI CR engine back in 2009/10 because of well-publicised fears of modern diesel issues like the DPF / DMF + regular cambelt changes etc ramping up the running costs. Seems like you can't win.
  11. It was around 8.5k. Slightly disagree with the comments re private sales - it seems to me the rise of PCP car finance has created a used supply of 3 year old cars that didn't really exist before - both privately and through dealers. Those people that can be bothered with the hassle of selling privately, one can usually beat a trade in value and put the extra in against a new car. To me that is a "genuine reason for sale" of a car that should also have been serviced properly as its often free! Obviously you can still get caught out, and I wonder about the example above as I would've thought the trade in value is higher than that! I guess we'll never know!
  12. Mine's a diesel so may not be comparative, but my DSG will seek out 6th at a much lower speed than I'd ever think to do so myself (anything over about 40 mph on the flat). I was very surprised just how high a gear it would choose when I first got the car. If I use manual mode I always end up with 3-4 less mpg as I'm in a lower gear most of the time, even though it "feels" more appropriate in terms of rpm. So 70+ in 5th sounds like madness to me!
  13. Looking at autotrader website today (friend wants a Golf 1.4 tsi...... refuses to buy an octavia with the same engine depsite my protestations!). Thought I'd see how much the f/l CR vrs is going for these days (I bought mine a year ago and the premium for a facelift was significant) - and found this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201309309033747/sort/default/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/price-to/10000/model/octavia/make/skoda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/1500/postcode/so146se/keywords/2.0%20cr%20vrs/page/1?logcode=p If its a genuine car then that's incredible value for an estate particularly! (Sadly the price and Frequent Capitalisation Of Words makes me think its probably not!)
  14. Took my 2009 cr vrs (Dsg) in for a major service today (along with cambelt change....but lets not get into that) and have had the pleasure of driving a Nissan Juke for the day. It's a 2013 116ps 1.6 petrol with CVT. And it's absolutely terrible! The interior is a disgrace, hard retro plastics everywhere. Full of gadgets but badly positioned switchgear and satnav screen makes most of them useless IMO. The CVT gearbox in combination with the 1.6 non-turbo petrol is a complete horror-show. Appears to be unable to accelerate at all beyond 50mph. I kept double checking the handbrake to make sure it wasn't partially on. Put your foot down, and nothing happens except from the CVT forcing an awful beehive noise out of the poor engine revved to 6000 rpm. The worst thing about it is the price new - just over 17k!! That's only a few pence less than the blackline was last year!! My point is this: There appears to be a fair few mk II facelift VRS owners on this forum considering changing to a newer model... ..Do yourself a favour and go a test drive one of these and you'll realise just how lucky we are already!!
  15. One of the most useful things about VAG cars overall I guess is the fact that the shared engines appear in such huge volume sales that any problems relatively quickly spread across internet forums such as this. From what I can tell, the 2.0 CR in both 140 and 170 seems to be pretty free of DPF issues regardless of how its driven, aside from the faulty exhaust sensor causing problems until swapped for the newer variant. I guess the newer 180ps CR is untested but one would guess its a continuation on a theme.
