  1. Your sure you don't have rain sensitive wipers? If so moving the stalk to its first position sets them to rain sensitive, when in this position the switch I think alters the sensitivity. This would explain the different speeds your wipers are moving at. A truck goes past flinging water on your widescreen and the wipers go really fast. A constant drizzle and they move more slowly. They can be a bit random at times but on the whole I think they're brilliant. Move the stalk a second notch it's a constant wipe, third notch constant but faster.
  2. I find road noise the biggest problem with my estate, my current tyres are Sava Intensa UHP rated I think at 68 db; they were the quietest I could find. There was possibly a minor improvement when first fitted or that could have just been wishful thinking! I really expected a major difference in road noise nonetheless I'm happy with them, cost approx £360.00 fitted and they're wearing much better than the previous tires which were michellin PS3's.
  3. Friday afternoon my engine management light came on, it had gone 4pm but the local skoda garage were good enough to have a look. As a result the cars booked in on tuesday to get a replacement secondary coolant pump fitted. The guy at the service desk said the diagnostic scan had thrown up an error for that general area of the car, wether he meant a certain part of the engine bay or the coolant system in general i don't know. But so far I've been very happy with the work they've done so i booked it in for Tuesday. Was also told its fine to drive for the short-term. I drove the car home with the engine management light on, this morning I start the car and as expected the light was still on. I done approx 60 miles pottering around town and went for my dinner. After dinner i start the car and the engine management light doesn't come on, I've drove it all afternoon and its stayed off so is it possible the pump may have jammed but sorted itself out? Is there anyway I can visually check if the pumps working? Am I right in thinking now the light has gone off there is no fault? Thanks in advance
  4. My car is on variable and I was told by the local skoda garage this is NOT the case. I bought the car second hand after its first service. Second service cost £200, but that also included a brake fluid change. Third service was going to be £249.00 but was reduced to £199.00 as the brakes had already recently been cleaned up. So it seems it's the same cost and routine as the fixed service. In fact I get the impression variable service is really 'fixed' but extended to 18600 miles. My cars used as a taxi, I can get out of bed late and hammer it work from a cold start, then If it's cold outside I can spend half the day with the car parked up with the engine ticking over. Other times it can be switched off and on 40+ times in a day. When i first bought it i was careful not to hammer it as i want it last but now it gets some stick almost all the time I don't have passangers in the back. Driving style really doesn't seem to affect variable service as I'm sure I've done 18,000 between the last two services..
  5. I had the same concern when I bought my car second hand from a garage up in scotland. But the local dealer basically said its a skoda and it's not three years old so its fully covered. I never recieved any paper work saying the warrantee had been transferred, I guess this is because it's on the car regardless who owns it?
  6. The boot cover on mine squeaks where its held in place but that's it.
  7. These guys done my wheel alignment, nice setup and very professional.
  8. What's the age of the car and how many miles you done on them thanks
  9. I had some pads replaced on my old car at a mercedes dealer and they constantly squealed drove me crazy. The carriers were all seized up with rust and crap off the road jamming the pads against the disk.
  10. It is considering last time I was in halfords they wanted £18.00 for a litre of castrol edge.
  11. On my vrs I've recently switched from mitchellin ps3's to four sava intensa which were the quietest I could find being rated at 67 db. There's an obvious difference and it's almost as quiet as I think it should be around town but once you get up to speed on rough surfaces the noise is still there. Over the coming weeks I'm going to try some sound proofing, there's loads of threads on here about it but I'm yet to find someone whos managed to come up with a solution I would be happy with. To me the noise killer kits don't look to do a thorough enough job.
  12. Hm I'd try the button that adjusts the clock! Maybe try a google search for the manual?
  13. I fitted a taxi meter in mine, took my time with it but after refitting it kept popping open. I took it back out and spent ages trying to work it out. The whole thing was twisted ever so slightly and a bit wasn't moving as it should, at the back corner near a cog. Sorry cant remember exactly but should point you in the right direction.
  14. I thought it would just be a case of cycling through the menus? Mines just the standard display. I turn the button that adjusts the clock one click to the left.
  15. The fault is in the passanger side light cluster?
  16. I've used them once since buying my new car. Cost £198.00 for variable service and brake fluid change. Also been in to buy new boot liner and mats they always come across as polite and friendly no complaints so far. Would be interested to hear the full story captain scarlet?
  17. I think you have to switch the engine off then back one before reset
  18. Superbs are huge. Think a 5 series bmw with more legroom
  19. Done it plenty times myself at the car wash with the foam brush! They give the polish guys a suprise at the hand wash too. Auto wipers while not perfect are still a good piece of kit. Especially handy when a truck goes past splashing a puddle over the windscreen. I always forget to switch them off.
  20. I think when you remove the key the radio gives you the option of recording traffic announcements? Never really paid attention to it.. And if you interrupt a regen the fans come on to cool the exaust down. If you had restarted the car the revs would have been sitting higher at around 1000 instead of 800. Sometimes does this when I get home from work as well as the burning smell. This is entirely normal but if I were you I'd have a read up about the dpf so you know what to expect. When I get in the car the next day the revs will be again slightly higher until the regens completed.
  21. And the moral of this story is PATIENCE is as much a factor as having a potentially economical car when it comes to achieving high mpg! :p I just don't have it in me, always in a rush. I'm sure it'll come as I mature. Nice to see such a big car as yours being capable of high mpg
  22. Looks that way doesn't it, I have an interest in saving fuel as im a taxi driver. But after reading posts over the last few months from various owners of the 1.6 I get the impression this engines only going to make some big savings on fuel if you spend most of your time cruising at 40-50mph.
  23. Something trapped between the wheel and the face of what it bolts onto? Bad balancing? I'd have thought this would be an easy one for the dealers to troubleshoot.. I'd put your spare on the front left then the front right see if there's a difference.
  24. That beings back memories. When I was a kid, I'm thinking around 1985 my dad knew someone who made billboard signs and he gave me a massive poster of an F1 car with the jps logo in the same colours.
