  1. Am I the only one who wishes I had a set of tyres that lasted 3 years?! But on a serious note I've had Yokohama on a previous car which had "crazing" on the sidewalls after 2 years. If you want some scientific feedback on what tyres to choose then check out the Auto Bild test results >>> http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Auto-Bild-Max-Performance-Tyre-Test.htm there are tests for all groups of tyres, not just performance.
  2. Hi Fraser, same thing happened to me last week, changed the pickup in less than 2 hours as mentioned above...I chose to buy new parts from Skoda £15 for new pick-up and new o-ring. I work in Telford so if you need a hand doing the job I'd be happy to help if required
  3. Sorry - if I'd have read it properly I'd have seen "gearbox end" and yeah comparing it wouldn't be a bad idea. I hope someone else is a bit more helpful and you get it sorted mate
  4. OK, 10mm of movement up and down wouldn't concern me personally - that's based on previous car experiences. In my experience I've never had a pulsing/vibration which was down to a faulty driveshaft - not to say it doesn't occur though! I don't mean to insult your intelligence (don't know the characters on here yet!) but before you fork out for a shaft have you checked the old "full lock on a car park" trick to listen for a CV eating itself? Or checked for other vibration culprits - wheels weights fallen off causing imbalance, tyre bulges from meeting a pothole, wheels not on quite tight enough (been there a few years ago  )
  5. You can expect to be able to move the shaft between the two CV joints - it's there to allow for the movement in the suspension and the change in the relative position of the hub from the gearbox. I wouldn't expect it to be terribly sloppy though. Can you explain what you mean by "pulsing" though?
  6. Just by a process of elimination it sounds as if the switch in the stalk itself might be your problem...new stalk?
  7. Guys and Girls, After being turned into a fan of Skodas by my father-in-law-to-be (fugly on here) and having driven a mates Octavia VRS, I've finally bitten the bullet and bought one! Decided on one of these because the missus and I tend to go camping quite a bit and the boot is more than adequate to sleep in let alone carry all of the stuff we've accumulated! It's a 1.8 20vt, 93k, Skoda stamps up to 90k, all the right boxes ticked, few advisories on the last MOT for suspension play/ corrosion but nothing that put me off...just leverage on the asking price! Plans are just to get it nice and tidy (she says I have OCD :wonder: ), make sure the suspension is safe for now (coilovers with Christmas bonus?!) and get the wheels painted because the previous rattle-can-on-the-drive job isn't quite up to my standard! Bought it with a recently fitted atmospheric BOV so I've bought a 007p and a silicone turbo hose kit to replace the abortion of a job done on the current hoses. Overall I'm happy with the car so far...haven't driven it since picking it up because I'm waiting for insurance to run out on my current 1-0-skip before I get it out and enjoy it. Here's a couple of photos after spending the weekend de-tarring, mopping, waxing etc.. Looking forward to getting stuck in with this one! Been reading a lot on here since when I was looking at buying one and there's loads of interesting and mega-useful stuff on here Roll on the good times! Phil
