  1. Thanks both. Ipulled out the switch once again, and found that a wire connector buried behind it, which you couldn't see all of, but could poke with a finger caused the interior lights to go on and off. I showed this to an auto electrician who connected the car to diagnostics, and did that the same dodgyconnector affected whether or not the diagnostics was able to read the car, or whether he got a 'no communication' error. That connector has been fixed and so far all is working. Fingers crossed.
  2. Hello all My 2011 yeti has a problem that I'm ninety percent sure is a fault with the rotary light switch. If I got hold of another light switch, could I just swap them or would I need some sort of coding or programming so that the new part is recognised by the Canbus? In case you're interested, the lights are on all the time. It's been this way for about a week. The 'bulb blown' warning light illuminates on the dash. Also the reversing sensors don't work. The light switch can be rotated from off to sidelights to headlights but with no effect. The lights stay on, which feels like a failsafe mode. The daylight running lights are off, but the headlamp bulbs and side light bulbs are on. Earlier, I plucked the rotary switch from the dash, and as it slid out, it lit up. I confess that I had not noticed until that point that its illuminations were not working. For a minute or two, it worked correctly, switching the lights on and off, and the reversing sensors worked, but then it failed again, so I'm thinking the fault is either with the switch itself, or a wire (or wires!) connected to it. Any help would be appreciated...
  3. Hello all Took my daughter out to change the oil in our Yeti 1.2TSi, and found there was quite a lot of oil sprayed about under there! Eventually we discovered that a little mushroom-shaped plastic valve which connects the cam cover to a breather pipe from the air cleaner housing was flapping loose. On further inspection, the little mushroom is clearly broken off at the 'pipe stub' which attaches to the engine end. It looks like it's just a push-fit into a rubber grommet thing in a hole in the top/back of the cam cover, but I expect it's left half an inch of itself in that hole. So, a new one was obtained, but I can't see quite how to fit it, because the hard, black, flattish plastic pipe that takes compressed air from the turbo to the throttle body runs right over the top of it's location. How do I get that turbo intake air pipe off? It has a collar at the turbo end, that's easy to remove, with two torx screws into the plastic, and the other (throttle body) end looks easy, as it seems to have two clippy 'levers' that you can pop open to either side, but I still couldn't lift it off. There are four torx screws at that throttle body end, but I started to get afraid that the hold more than just the plastic air pipe, and that I'd separate something for which I would need a new gasket or something, or that I wouldn't be able to reach to put back on. I was in a hurry that day... Is there a trick, or a right way? thanks in advance. Sorry I don't know the proper names of any of the parts! Sam
  4. No one seems to know, so I'll ask a different question! Are they ht leads, on these, or are there independent coils, in the "plug cap", one per plug therefore?
  5. Hello All Is there a knack to getting these metal (heat shield?) HT leads to let go of the spark plugs? The shiny pipes for the .... I can't remember what pipes they were now ... but they are right in the way, and every way I tried to grab the HT lead, I didn't seem to be able to get a good enough hold to pull them off? Is there a trick, or a tool, or am I just being a sissy? I am a bit afraid of harming a lead, and not being able to get to work in the morning. Thanks all, Sam

    Elsawin?

I think I want it ready for surprises. Nothing is wrong yet! Torque settings, and sensible guidance about what needs to be removed in what order. Basically, I want a Haynes book. Llanigraham, where did you get a legit copy? I imagined it would cost hundreds and hundreds? thanks all Sam

    Elsawin?

Hello All Is there anyone who has bought one of the ElsaWin DVD offerrings seen all over ebay? Presumably they are illegal copies? Is there an alternative? Do they work? I don't expect strong technical support from people who are selling bent software? Is ElsaWIN any good? I sort of get the feeling that it might be very comprehensive without being very 'helpful'? Sam
  8. Really, they don't bother to fit it to the petrols? Are the bonnets themselves the same? You'd think that a bonnet without the part would look unfinished - full of 'tabs' or holes or other obviously unused fixings? And that's what it's for, is it - sound deadening? It's not a anti-pedestrian-death measure? thanks for your answer, by the way...
  9. Hello I went to view (and chose to buy) a yeti TSi 1.2 from a private seller today. The car is immaculate, low mileage, drives well etc etc. All lovely. Then, a few moments ago, I spotted an under-bonnet photo, albeit of a TDi, on this very forum. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/252387-tdi-140-under-the-bonnet/ Now, thinking back, the big soft 'insulating/sound deadening', fabric-like board seen stuck beneath the bonnet in that forum photo was, I think, *missing* from the car I saw today! Presumably a TSi should have one just as a TDi does. What is it for? And where can it have gone? The car has only ever had one service, at a proper skoda dealer. I'd be surprised if the bonnet had ever been opened by the vendor herself. Am I going crazy? Does someone have an under-bonnet pic of a similar TSi that I could show to my vendor before I hand over the balance? The car is still under warranty. I am tempted to have the vendor sort this out with their dealer before we complete the transaction. thanks in advance Sam
  10. Thanks everyone. I am trying to work out whether or not the roomster suits my needs before this "no vat"deal runs out at the end of September. Or will they carry it on? Or will there be an even better deal? Any insider information gratefully received. What other choices did people consider when they bought their Roomsters?
  11. Thanks folks. I didn't think it was turbo and super charged, but I was told that it was by a salesman in a skoda dealership that shall remain nameless. What is the 86ps one like? The roomster is not that much heavier than the Fabia, and I will be shopping in it more than racing in it.
  12. Hello Are the "new" TSi engines turbo and supercharged? I know there were some older engines like this, but didn't know these were? Have I been misinformed? Thanks in anticipation Sam
