  1. A car painter friend mixes black paint with a bit of thinners, the thinners melts the plastic a bit (not noticable) and helpd the paint adhere. Worked wonders on mine. Just apply sparingly and go steady.
  2. Could it be a case of the alternator belt starting to stretch? It only really seems to happen when the car is warm.
  3. It's not permenantly on, but does flash every now and then. Stays on for a bit then goes out. It might stay off for 15 miles then flash as bit for a couple of miles then stay off again. I have had this problem for the last week, I have checked the alternator - fine, alternator cable changed and the battery is fine. Has any one else had the same issue and point me in the direction of a solution?
  4. It's stuck on with double sided spongey stuff, with a couple of plastic locating pins to make sure it sits in the right place
  5. Where are the 2 missing points on the new liner compared to the tailgate? There is 2 mounting points that are almost hidden by the wiper motor in the middle, almost missed this when I first removed the panel to change the number plate bulbs!!
  6. Stupidly simple question, but... How does the handbrake function on the mk1 VRS, does it operate the calipers on the disk or is there handbrake shoes inside the rear disk? I would check but I'm without the car for a few days and the MOT is due the day after I get it back, need to order a few parts
  7. Recently I have noticed that my Vrs is staring to understeer when I push it into corners. I am not ure if this is because I have got settled in the car (I have had it a year now) and am going into corners a bit quicker, whether I have got a mechanical issue, or whether the Vrs is naturally understeery when driving spiritedly, Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Had a look at the fuse box and the 110 fuse and black wire on the left is looking a bit black, not broken but looks bad compared the the other 4. Is this the fuse for the alternator?
  9. As I drove to work this morning I noticed that my fuel light was on, checked the range 45 miles, should be enough to get me to the shell garage 10 miles away. About a mile from the garage the interior and exterior lights dimmed, abs light, airbag light and esc light came on!!! I filled the car with petrol but when I went to start it I got nothing. Not enough power to turn it over. Fortunately managed to jump it and it drove okay with all the warning lights turning themselves off. Is this normal procedure if the fuel gets too low or shoudl I be worried?
  10. Bottom, centre front of the engine, just behind the oil filter iirc. Bugger to get out but easy enough, not a lot of hand room
  11. She had finished the reverse back and was in the process of driving off when she was hit
  12. not sure how to link google maps, but the co-ordiantes in the bar are "50.954615,-2.628372". St. Michaels Avenue Yeovil.
  13. It was in a residential area, not a tight corner more gentle bend, and there are speed bumps along the road as it is near a secondary school
  14. A friend had recently been stung by their insurance company claiming through her insurance after she was hit by another driver (who was travelling a bit quick, but no impartial witnesses) as she was in the middle of a 3-point turn. The driver came round a corner and straight into the front wing of the car as it was across the road. The insurance company has said that it was her fault for performing a hazardous manuover, is this right? Don't ever remember being told this when I had to learn it for my driving test.
  15. My epc light and not starting last year was down to the crank angle sensor being shot
  16. Without investigating further it sound like the garage didn't get the timing right after the cam belt change, and one of the cams is running out.
  17. I have a vrs with almost 130k on the clock, although I look after it and the service history is fantastic (services every 6 months regardless) is it too high mileage wise to get it remapped? Am I better off waiting and saving for a lower mileage car and doing it to that?
  18. Fault/job 3 I guess would be a gearbox or engine mount and 3700 just so happens to be the frequency that makes it move. Similar thing with my car at exactly 2000 revs and under load the exhaust changes note
  19. Yeah, the car would crank for ages and finally just about turn over... Then eventually it would just crank and not start at all
  20. I had this problem on my VRS an found it was the crank angle sensor (after changing the cam position sensor), right at the bottom of the engine and a pig to get at!
  21. +1, EPC is Electronic Program Control (ish) and means a sensor somewhere has thrown up an issue, without the code it could be anything
  22. I had the EPC and engine light on earlier this year, it was the crank angle sensor that was the problem
  23. I used H&R springs in combination with Koni FSD's and they sorted my VRs out, feels much more connected to the road and doesn't roll and pitch as much. Came to about £700 iirc.
